From the table of contents grenadiers are troops. Even if they don't get a single change from the 5th edition siege list that's still enough to make them an excellent unit.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Hrm, I dunno about that, 17ppm for slightly up-stat'd guardsmen and no Special Operations and no Plasma guns isn't exactly...useful.

I mean, I own 70something of the buggers, and I'd still be hardpressed to find them useful at anything over 12/13ppm. They just do not have the statline to back up their gear and role, and especially not at that cost.

Is that 17ppm figure from the new book, or just what they cost currently? Because being able to field "not-Storm Troopers" as Troops makes them ideal to represent Skitarii, so I'm hoping that the Krieg get a bit of an update in this book to bring them in line with the new edition and the regular Guard.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

That 17ppm is what they are currently, hence why I was hoping they'd get changed.

BrookM wrote:Did I see a "Storm Chimera" in that list?

Yeah, according to a post on Warseer it's an Autocannon equipped Chimera with Extra Armor and Track Guards, expect it to be the transport for Grenadier squads and outrageously expensive for a 6E AV12 non-skimmer transport, 80-90pts.

Warhound over at ATT wrote:Well, I say rumours... but these are gospel, as I spoke with Daren Parwood (XV9 sculpting fame) and Alan Bligh... and had the below book in my hands...!

Daren has been given the go-ahead to make another suit!.. I spoke with him some 9 months about some ideas that he has had, to make a suit inbetween the XV-25 and XV-8 sizing... at the time we discussed having a smaller missile laden guy... but this has now been dealt with by the new releases... so, in league with Alan Bligh, they are knocking around the following ideas:

Hyper stealth capability... bascially able to drop in, up front all alone, and be able to get out again.. sort of a 'minime' of the XV-9 MO....
Possible 'big gun'... Daren not sure on whether it will be Ion... or some sort of Ongar Gauntlet type affair...

To be released: unknown, but Daren has already started the sculpt;-)

More importantly.. I was able to read the Taros campaign "redux"... bascially, they has one of only 3 copies in existence at the event, a final copy ready for the printers... As the taros campaign came out before the Apocalypes launch and also, with 6th ed and now the new codex.. they have updated ALL units to be inline with the new release....

key notes that I can remember:

Tetras: H2 TL ml, base cost 35, but with Dpod, comes in at ##edit## just under the old points... so a little nerf on the shots there...
XV-9 updated! Full suite of optional upgrades from the codex, including the skyfire ability!!!.. Shas O really- stand alone character that cant join other units at all!!

Full tightening on all the XV-8 AND 9 suits varients... new points, plus 6th ed rules....

Clarifications on all the marker posts and sentries etc.....

Bit of a pain to rebuy the book- but worth it in the end!.. also Talima mentioned that they have retrofitted some fluff to fit with the new canon....
ETA- 2 months....

I hope that this helps some folks out..

cheers

Pushkin over at Warseer wrote:From what I understood talking to alfonso the sons of Horus command squad and the reavers are full kits - not accessory sprues, this is because he was talking about how he sculpted the individual parts, including sets of legs. The same goes for the iron hands squads.

Also I think people have misunderstood the reavers, they're not veterans or assault squads, they're a unit for the next book.

There are numerous new units that are coming out some of which will be legion specific some of which will not. Phoenician guard were speicofically mentioned.

I get the impression the first book was about creating a base list for the legions with a few legion specific characters and units and there is more to come both in terms of generic legion stuff e.g the fell glaive and legion specific stuff - e.g Phoenician guard, morlocks

Oh and with regards to Morlocks they are definitly in the process of being done because I chatted to one of the new sculptors about the chainmail on their shoulder pads and he said he was shown how to do it by the guy who sculpted the Orc command squad for fantasy. Also had a number of sketches of them out on the table.

Chatting to the guys there were 3 new guys one of whom was working solely on SoH (alfonso) a d another solely on Iron hands. The other was a caster. The Phoenician guard and the palatine blades were being done by someone who'd been at FW a bit longer.

18 points per model for a squad with BS/WS 4, carapace armor, AP 3 guns, and 2x melta + demo charge + optional heavy flamer. Scoring stormtroopers is one of the most popular IG wishlist things, and this list looks like it's going to give them to us. I think once the full details of the list are known we're going to realize just how powerful an army where every gun is AP 3 or better can be in a game where MEQs are half the metagame or more.

Scoring is only half the problem with ST's though. The other is that their statline doesn't support that gear, and the AP3 is grossly overcosted and on very short range Strength 3 guns where that AP value is wasted far too often. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to the list and DKoK Grenadiers are probably my favorite FW/GW unit of all time in terms of visual style, but man, 17/18ppm is ludicrously expensive for that. Eldar get entire squads of BS4 WS4 I5 Ld8/9 4+sv dudes each equipped with meltaguns for less than that and they're a 7 year old book. It'll be what it is, but 200pt squads of T3 S3 I3 W1 Ld7/8 dudes is hard to justify no matter what they're packing.

Krieg! What a hole...

Yes, I love my Grenadiers as well, but I can't seem to find a way to make them work, unless its via a houserule where people don't mind if I use my Valkyrie as a dedicated transport for them.

Who knows, Stormchimeras could help with the short range weapons.

Anyone knows if the Siege regiment is getting updated as well? If so, I am assuming the Grenadier and Engineers will switch place.

Alan Blight & Andy Hoare indicated a yes, but couldn't give a firm time-scale.

Also, given they represent different formations, don't expect FOC changes in the Assault list to necessarily roll over straight into the Siege list.

Considering that in IA1 2nd Edition the unit that goes with the drill is an elite slot, this would be consistant, ah well, we'll see.

Looking at the info on here i think the most interesting Necron stuff (for me anyway) will be the Warlord traits and the Sentry Turrets.

2 of those turrets sitting in the back field with a long range S9 Ap2 gauss gun could be pretty nasty.
