@evildrcheese I wouldn't say that the xwing miniatures are painted poorly. I would say that they are painted to the same standard as the average toy or game piece, BUT compared to what we see here on dakka or in the world of our hobby, they pale in comparison to even what I could accomplish.

@Moonpie hmmm yes, yes I did.

@yggdrasil would you agree with my above statement?

Mostly, on my phone.

If I may chip in, I would say that X-Wing minis are better than other prepaints (eg attack wing, heroclix), but Ice is quite right that they pale in comparison to what we're "used to". However. they're very satisfyingly quick to repaint.

Fair enough, I guess all I'm really after if a fall back game for when I can't get a game of 40k at the club so could probably live with the pre-painted models. Maybe I'll just add details as special accolades when some thing cool happens.

It is a great fall back game. Easy to learn, easy to play, lots of options and doesn't take too long to get a game in. Pick a faction, get a couple ships that look cool and you are ready to go!

I do like the idea of adding special accolades. That is a good idea. I should add tally marks to each one of my scum ships that destroys a vessel of moonpie's. Yep, that may have to happen.

Thanks. They should present a lovely challenge against my Angels. I just need to figure out how I want to paint them first.

Yesterday was a great day and very productive. I helped moonpie for awhile. He needed help packing. It was. ...... a unique experience. Late last night we had a three way, three hour xwing game. I played scum and villainy and i was victorious.

I also managed to cut some wood.

Which allowed me to continue work on my ruins

I added more stuff to the base along with my special collection of sand and grit. I added a couple figs for your viewing pleasure.

Thoughts?

You added the large, primered tyranid for my "viewing pleasure"???

Back to ork gun emplacement!

Ignore the fact that it is on a battle wagon for a moment. I have an important question. Cannon casing, green or some other color? Discuss............

Here is an earlier picture of the cannon side of the turret.

MORE WIP pictures. Next on the agenda is to finish up the missiles, do some odd bits, then stare at the cannons to figure out how I want to do all of that.

Thanks guys. I am really happy with how the emplacement turned out. It may be my favorite ork conversion yet. It has also put me in the mood to paint more orks.

So the ruins have taken over my painting time as of late. After the priming came a lovely blue on the ground and brown on the top. Then came another level of blue with an orange and purple up top.

Then came the first layer of white.

Next we hit the ground with another level of white and select spots of white on top. Then we go back and get all the fun details on this bad boy.

Very very interesting Ice. Really looks like a building neglected and blasted by perpetual cold.

Very nice.. what are you using for a base material?

The base? A very thin wooden board. It comes in 8 x 4 sheets. I then cut down to size.
