well... i think not everything needs to be casted to be sold... actually you could go the artist way and just make your money by producing a unique set of bulkheads for a special purpose... kinda like making a complete board... like space crusade...

or...you could just enjoy building what you do best and keep it for your self...actually that is what i would suggest ... after all selling your children would be like cutting off a limb... at least for me... and i expect nonetheless from you

Vik, I'm thinking of making a space hulk type board as I have both the 2nd and 3rd editions of the game, but never played. I'd love to come up with something I could do to make money while still looking for a job though. Just like the old adage, " find something you like to do and you'll never work another day in your life." I love to build , and if I can tell a story with it, even better. But in the end, food must get on the table for the kids, I can wait a while. In the mean time the stuff I build is for me, and for you my friends to enjoy looking at as well.

Finally got my stuff from china, as well as stuff from Walmart.

More glue, I use lots of it...probably too much. And the little vials are mallet than I thought, but so is the stuff inside. They are microbeads used for fingernail art. I've seen a few people use them for studs and rivets so I thought I'd give it a go.

Here's the beads next to a 1/16 rivet that was punched out of plastic card for comparison. These little are tiny and I'll have to figure a way to pick them up and place them where I want them.

Here's one of the scrapped hatches with the rivets put on. Just above the vent is one of the rivets that's on a rhino hatch for size comparison.

Right now I'm pre drilling with a tiny bit and a pin vise, then gluing the bead in.

Here's the nicer hatch with the beads. I know it looks like it has measles right now, but it will look much better with primer on it.

Dam they are some small beads but they work really well, nice scratch builds as well like the brick bulkhead idea

Good luck with the venture hope it is financially lucrative and fun at the same time

Hey tho, i think a good way to handle the tiny beads is by means of a stick and some putty on the tip. The putty kids play with...play doh and so on. You can attach the putt to the stick with superglue and then aim for a bead. Before that you had to drill the hole and put the drop of glue in place... And... The beads look mighty slick on that hatch. I think I need some of these too.I am a bit tired of the holepunched rivets in my own works...

@LDD, thanks, I hope it works out too.
@galorn,
@vik, I tried that way as well, but I don't think the pic really shows just how tiny they are. The easiest way I've done it to date is just push down on it with my finger until it sticks to my hand, and get it close to the home, then use a paperclip to push it to the exact spot. I drop about half of them, but using poster tack on a stick wasn't getting to the spot I wanted.

Having to rush to my parents house, their van broke down,y dads the mechanic but not feeling good so I get to be the muscle.

Have you tried modelling tweezers? That's what I use for almost everything on a model. You have to be really gentle with things that small or you can launch them miles.

Good luck with the van.

I didn't meant sticky putty tho. Just that playstuff. But you could always use the adhesive power of simple water, maybe with a brush?

Affton, MO. USA

@Vik, I'll try the water nd brush idea later tonight.
@dr. H, I'll put my eye out! I can just see the bead weaseling it's way around my glasses and right into my eye

So far my finger technique works well, as long as my finger isn't covered by a protective layer of glue I still drop he bead half the time, but I have a lifetime supply for $5.98 shipped (got 2 sets).

Did my time at he parents today, not working on the van because my dad was sick, but got to mow he lawn that hasn't been touched in three weeks while he had pneumonia. Wished my mom called me sooner as the tractor kept getting bogged down due to the height of the grass, but I guess I'll be headed over there each week until he's feeling better.

Only had a little bit to work on stuff when I got home before going outside to meet the kids coming off the bus from their first day of school. Hey had fun, but off to homework now so daddy can type this I'm so mean.

Here's what I built.

The brick wall was screaming sewer to me, and who would want to step in that.

Sump gator view showing the half roof above. I think I might make a walkway for the second story to rest on top of it. The z bar shape will get rivets on it for into the wall support. It also has space for a light kit I'm thinking about building.

Here's the sewer disassembled into three parts and you can see the bottom of the roof better as well as the stone squares for the bottom walkway.

Profile view of the three parts together.

Disassembled profile view for better idea.

Another view of the parts showing the full wall section standing alone for street level needs. The raised section could also be a dock level for trucks to back up to

I've got lots of ideas for add ons for this just waiting in m head ready to bust out.

Looks like you used quite a bit of plastic in that walkway, you sure you couldn't save a little and still make it?

I was more looking at the tube in the middle. I know it helps space the rest out, but it's not absolutely necessary...

I am just being cheap though, I like to stretch my money/plastic as far as it'll go (that's why I use lots of sprue...).

The base I had originally had only two pieces out from the wall, but then saw a person could not stand on it, so added another layer out. I do have plenty of sprue to use though, but wanted something I could easily duplicate, so used the pieces instead.

Seems we all want to make a sewer at a point in our hobbylife. Dave has made a start, and me too... Bothwith totally different approaches. But yours look very good, and makes me eager to see more. But I do share the opinion that all that looks very expensive. Or did you steal the brick pc?

Made in us
Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

Affton, MO. USA

Brick pc was part of a supply haul last week that I got off the clearance rack. Still available from the manufacture, but the store stopped carrying, so hopefully can get more in future if needed. I was going to try their other locations today to get more of it and the diamond plate stuff.

Found an issue with the first roof/catwalk, of course it wasn't until after I made a second one of it. It was too narrow for a base to sit on so I made a wider one in the same manner.

The top of it has the diamond plating on it for slip protection, now this can have multiple layers to it. Where did that zombie go?

This might be better to cast in plaster, not sure though I'll leave that to an expert.

@ruglud, completed...... I don't think any one of my projects has ver been called that before. But thanks modularity is what I was hoping for.

In the deep darkness of the distant future there will be light.....and rivets

Thanks Vik for the brush idea with the rivets. (*one Important note, if your a brush licker like me, STOP, use water. I licked the brush to start dotted a single bead set it in the glue, picked up and did a few more beads, it stopped working so I licked the bush again only to have the brush stuck to my tongue [Vik. Hope you weren't drinking anything right there] a gentle tug removed it, but I went and garbled to make sure I didn't ingest the glue. Wish I had taken a pick of h brush stuck to my tongue, but was more concerned about urn sticking myself than posting a pic for you guys.....sorry)

OSL? That must be one of those painting things right?
Forgot to mention it and the wire are not glued in place, nearly tacked on right now.

Was thinking about how to do stairs, originally wanted to do something similar to a fire escape ladder, or a hatch, but decided that wasn't risky enough in the underhive .

Side ladder wher the base is down in the gunk, and the few attachment points are rusty due to age. Would make for great house rules, like agility test or you fall and on a 4+ the ladder goes with you.

Closer view, it will get rivets on the attachment side also.

No cover save as your hanging out in the open.

Yes Vik, I did really have a brush stuck to my tongue. I even shook my head around hoping it old ly off like the drool flies off dogs mouths when they shake. My fingers are glued overhear quite often, I just this week got some of h glue with a precision tip applicator, and it works so much better.

My sewer inspiration came fom lots of sources, but when people talk about multistory my favorite example always goes back to this

I'd love to set that puppy up in the basement for necromunda.

Not much new an exciting today, built the tree protectors that I talked about, but forgot photos. I'll edit them in later.

It looks like 16 layers of bloodshed to me, if 3" tall per layer your looking at a 4' board. I guess it's a true 4'x4'x4' table. It reminds me of the habitat area in the newest judge dredd movie, a green tree I think it's called. Anyway I'll try to hunt it down in the magazine before everyone's up. In the mean time I remembered to take pics of the terrain make of broken railroad tracks.

Could fill them with stuff to make a shipping containers and stack them up. The single pieces I use as freight pallets.

Or add in the old starter box plastic plants and you have the fancy tree wraps you see in some municipalities. I used the barrel to represent a trash bin. Either way it can provide some quick cover on the streets.

FOUND THE ARTICLE FOR THAT HUGE BUILD, ISSUE 30 OF THE CITADEL JOURNAL....yes, I did shout when I found it after digging through my stacks of necromunda magazines, and citadel journals. The thing is made of foam board. I would use mdf, but I guess the foam is lighter. Not that I would try and move that monster around after its built.
