Am I reading that right? The change to hardbacks and pulling out of independent bookstores meant the HH series stopped hitting the NYTimes bestseller list, and now they are pulling paperbacks and the old books from their own stores?
How do they expect to get anyone else into the damn series if they don't at least have the opening trilogy sitting on the shelves?

Is 3rd on the list -- After warmaster & his own fantasy series start.
Suggests that at least part of the delay was due to the way GW/BL shifted their focus a bit over the last few years.
...however things appear to be moving back t'other way.
PC game is helping a bit too

THE STORY
The Pharos stands as a beacon of light in the darkness, a whisper of hope in the silent void, a bastion of defiance in the face of treachery. Without it there could be no Imperium Secundus – why, then, do the masters of Ultramar know so little about its operation, or the dangers it could present? Young Oberdeii and Tebecai, Scouts of the 199th Company, descend into the depths beneath Mount Pharos in search of the truth... though it may haunt them for all time.

One of the great things about the Horus Heresy series is learning about the characters and events that shaped the 41st millennium, and few heroes are more pivotal than these two: Sergeant Aeonid Thiel and Rouboute Guilliman, Primarch of the Ultramarines. As well as these iconic heroes, in this audio, we also see the beginnings of what will become one of the most important books in the galaxy.

Just read in Facebook from people who seemed to be in the know that BL have recently been made more independent, similar to how it was before they were brought completely in under GW's wings, which means they are more about doing licensed fiction of various types in the Warhammer worlds rather than being a vehicle to sell more models like they have been in the recent years. Anyone else heard this chatter?

Yes I have. "Now that BL is its own master again" and wording about retail being completely separate from BL publishing popped up last week on a forum but as to what that specifically entails I can't say (teehee). You can check out The First Expedition to see this as well. Personally,BL is experimenting with new ways to deliver content but I've never been happier with BL. Sure, having mass market paperbacks available for each release would be swell but that heretic won't burn. Everything in ever format eventually

I know the next instalment of the bequin series is awaited with much anticipation on the thread but does anyone hav any idea when the next one in the talon of Horus / black legion book is scheduled for? Or is it another long term mystery?? I'm slightly panicking at the moment over having time to read what's on my plate at the minute but still keen to see both of these at some stage.

where's that coming from, the only clamour I hear is for speedy release of normal mass market paperbacks
(but the reprint news is good though)
It's at least on Facebook pages (especially BL/Digital page now), forums, in-person at events, via emails, and such. But yes, there is still likewise a call for massmarket paperbacks like the first (17-23 was it?) books.

So, from the usual couple of hundred superfans then, whereas the demand for the MMPB format was enough to make the early books in the series into NYT Best Sellers.
