Recently started playing 40k again, and am having a hell of a time with tau eldar and nids. Everyone seems to be playing them where I go or the occasional chaos army. First time I have played at a place that dident have half the players playing marines heh. Anyway through trial and error and more defeats than I would like to think about, I have come to the conclusion that bringing back my Kult of speed list is about my best shot. Unfortunatley due to a lack of transport vehicles, I can only field about 1,000 to 1,250 points. How does this configuration look. Kult of speed warboss: power klaw and shoota 132 points 8x tankbustas: 3 rokkit launchas 109 Battlewagon: force field, are paint, g riggers, 2x twin linked rokkit launchas, Zzap gun 145 points 7x trukk boyz: nob, power klaw, scorcha 107 Wartrukk: are paint, g rigger, big shoota 43 8x Trukk boyz: Nob, power klaw, rokkit launcha 113 Wartrukk: R paint, G riggers, big shoota 43 2x Guntrukk: g riggers, are paint, Zzap gun 150 3x warbikes 90 Warbuggy: Skorcha, g riggers 40 Fighta bomba raid 30 Total: 1,000 even. I can get up to 1250 if I add 8x stormboyz: nob, power klaw 156 +2 warbikes 60 krak grenades for the stormboyz 16 +2 trukk boyz to add to make fuller 18 Total: 1,250 without more vehicles to put orks on this is as high in points as I can go with a kult of speed army. Is this configuration competative at all, or am I way off base? Also besides a looted vehicle like a leman russ is there anything I can add or should really pick up to make a good 1500 point army? I dont want to get a looted vehicle and paint one up only to not have it as a choice when my new codex comes out.

What exactly are you having problems dealing with? Tau and Eldar sounds like Skimmers I don't know how Orks could deal with them other than keep shooting them with Rokkits. Looks like you're going for choppas + rokkits. Maybe switch all your heavy weapons to rokkits. Use terrain to hide your trukks turn 1 and then charge something, anything, turn 2. You might want to check out http://www.the-waaagh.com/You could take some burnas w/ your choppas instead of scorchas. I'm not an expert but it doesn't look like a bad list to me. Those two trukks are the key, don't let them get shot. Then you have various anti-tank. I would use the bikes to provide a hull down save for the Battlewagon. I'm assuming the tankbustas go inside. I'd put another rokkit on the Warbuggy but the Skorcha might be good too.

I would hold off on any major upgrades - Orks are due up for the next codex release, I believe.

I wish they would hurry I could sure use some new rules lovin to help me out. Bad enough my jump troops cost as much as a marine and my bikes cost as much as a chaos terminator.

Yeah, your best bet on making your Orks work is to wait 3 months.

Orock, dude, we've been wishing they'd hurry up for five years now. Good luck- my advice woud also be to spend your time converting sluggas into shoota boys and brooding hatefully on GW's slowed release schedule, skimmer and monstrous creature rules.

To be competitive, more rokkits, more trukks w/ powerclaws for those MC's. Those bikes are being downgraded, so have fun with them now.

Yeah but the new bike models are sick. Ill probably take some of them and about 6 of the new trukks. Convert my junky 20 year old about time they upgraded them trukks and turn em into warbuggies. Add a copter blade extension to my old bikes that were converted anyway and call em death coptas. My warboss on a bike still looks good, but thats because I converted it to be extended gave em a claw and put the guns on the other side. Its scary it looks almost like one of the new ones minus the jaws on the front wheel. Even has a monster head in between the handlebars. I only have about 35 choppa boys anyway. Gonna leave them alone and just save up for more regular boys. Flash gits are looking super nice now too. My army is probably going to consist of footsloggers mixed with trukk boyz. A unit of tankbustas, one or two of flashgits, a squigton of slugga/shoota boyz, then 3 trukks with nobz with powerklaws to ride up to what I need to kill right now. OH and a good sized stormboy unit with zaagstuck for that needed cheeze boost to compete with nids/smeldar.

That's good. I've seen some Math-hammer over at The-Waaagh.com which has convinced me that shootaboyz are now on an equal footing with sluggaboyz. The general consensus over there is that good ork armies will probably want a mix of shootas and sluggas to achieve some sort of Orky combined-arms thing. No sense chopping up your models, wot?

That's interesting to me. It seems to me that Shootaboyz have the edge, considering. 1) Shoota is 18", Slugga is 12" 2) Shoota gets 2 attack, 3 on the charge, Slugga is 3 and 4. 3) Cheap orks and lots of bodies are the key to close combat, maintaining kill zones for the PK Nob, which is equally effective in both cases. I will be using Sluggaboyz for trukks

Well, I can only link you to the numbers I saw. They aren't perfect by any means, but they look good enough that I think shootaboyz and sluggaboyz will both be useful in an ork army. www.the-waaagh.com/forums/index.php

The premise of it is that Sluggas will only be viable in a Trukk. When using Trukk bound squads whose sole purpose in life is to move forward and get into CC as fast as possible while delivering a PK Nob and as many supporting attacks as possible.
Why would you bother tanking Shootas in a Trukk, you're better spending the points on that trukk on more shoota boyz and guns for them.
I think the point is that for a "horde" style army, Shootas win out no question. And given how terribly "the horde" approach will screw with the current top army builds for the game, I think that one is going to look most attractive to people.

Makes sense to me. It doesn't mean that Sluggas are totally impossible to field as a horde. But orkz is orkz and more gunz is best! I'm just practicing
