Subject: Goofy Ork army idea...

Ultramarine Land Raider Pilot on Cruise Control

Ok after reading through the coming ork dex I'm thinking of making a small (1850pts) army.
As some of you know my currently painted Tyranid army is the "godzilla variant."
Well I was thinking of making the ork army the opposite of that army... or mecha-godzilla.
I'm thinking of making the army themed around carnifexes, either looted or "cheap" ork approximations. I'd make the buggies like the tracked vehicles that always shot at godzilla and his kaiju friends. The lootas would be dressed up in JSDF uniforms.
The list so far consists of:
2x Big Mek: Shokk attack gun, mega armor, ammo runt
2x Dreads: Grot riggers, armor plates, 2x rokkit launchas
9x Warbuggies (3x3 sqauds): rokkit launcha, armor plates
9x Killa Kans (3x3 squads): Big shoota, armor plates, grot riggers
30 loots (3x10 squads)
thats 1846.
So is this a crazy idea or should I follow through with it?
Any more ideas for the army?
I'm thinking it would be suitably orky and fun to model at the same time.

I'm not sure about the validity of the army on the table, but it's a great and fun idea ^_^.

Isn't this more of a tactics question than a painting and modelling one?
The army concept is pretty much exactly what I came up with in this thread.
I think it will do pretty well except in Escalation games. I'd personally shy away from giving the buggies any upgrades since nearly any penetrating hit kills them dead. Also, I'd really suggest against taking Mega armor on the Meks, it is just a waste of points. The Meks are ICs and therefore cannot be targeted unless they are the closest unit to the enemy. Those points could definitely be better spent IMHO. Another option to consider would be giving one Mek a KFF instead of SAG. He could be used to give cover to all of your Lootas or give him oiler runts and use him to fix your damaged Kans (and provide them with a little obscurement protection too).
Lastly, with the Ork morale rules the way they are you'd definitely want to go with 2xunits of 15 Lootas rather than 3x10 of them, for SURE.
As for the theme, it sounds awesome.

Yeah its a blatant thievery of your list yak. I like playing one trick pony lists.
My marine list is 6 drop podding dreads, works against some armies not others.
I was really just posting the list to give people and idea of what was contained in it (the buggies the dreads, etc) and to see if anyone had any ideas on how to kaiju up the lootas.

Seems to me that the lootas line of sight is going to be blocked alot by your own vehicles. This might be a situation where burnas would shine, as they would have plenty of shielding, can be used as the ultimate anti horde units, or as power weapons, and as they are meks it even fits in with your theme!

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

I like the crazy themes you can get away with in Ork armies!
I'm working on a Flying cult of speed using a 1:72 Scale Apache (Orked up of course!) as a Fighter Bomba and a Hind as a Bomba. Dynamite covered Grots strapped to the belly of the Hind and an ork cutting the rope to drop said Grots! Smart Bombz are Doom divers for extra steering!
Truck boys Hanging out of Blackhawks or Heuy's will give the cult a Nam feel

So what would a "looted" carni look like? I think it might be fun to have one lobotomized with a metal top of head with electrodes going to a grot with a joystick on top!

There area a couple of really good Looted Carnifex models out there, I saw a couple at the Waaagh just today. Pretty much what you are describing, dead carnifexes reanimated with ork teknologee and controlled like big gribbly Frankenstein monsters.
My own idea is close to this, but uses no buggies (yet), and I have Battlewagons modelled as giant stompy tinboy robots and several Killa Kanz and a Dread. The Warboss is an ork robot, as well as the Nobz Mob is all Tinboyz under control of their Tinboss (painboss). I basically wanted an orky version of a old monster movie like you are describing - think Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, where the enemies are all robots coming at you in the street, but all orky and clanking. Should I do buggies, I'll have to rep them as fast orky robots as well.
I think this stompy army idea can really work (to a degree), and would be fun as hell.
