I was reading White Dwarf 335 and Jervis hinted that a lot of new Ork models would be coming out in 2008. He said it would be a very green year.

Any idea what else besides the spearhead? Any Forgeworld stuff?

good question. I can see a few new metal models coming out for the special characters that don't already have models, but i strongly suspect we've already seen all the plastics (a shame, I was really hoping at least for recut buggy/trakk sprues with new drivers). The plastic grot rumours have died, but that I don't mind , as grots aren't as useful in the new codex.

'a very green year' may be mere sales waffle - heaps of ork articles in the Jan/Feb WD issues, sure, but then the usual slow decline as the next hot new army comes along.

Things I would dream about seeing are universal buggy kits, plastic mega armored nobs, and a plastic landraiderish sized battlewagon universal kit. However orks have a big hurdle with GW, you see they dont wear power armor. I take "its going to be a green year" to mean "you ork players are lucky were even releasing a new codex for you, dont start crying for new models too". Heck with the way there pricing is going, the only affordable armies in the future will be marines anyway.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

I remember the was a lot of talk about a "You can build all of it" sprue. Never heard about that with the new Dex confirmed.

A Green Year would hopefully mean at least a few kits, among them being the battlewagon, I would think (fervently hope, rather).

A double-use nobz mob/flash gitz box is likely. Grots will still probably be coming out, seeing as how there have been pics taken of the 3-up grot, and I doubt we would be shown that if it was not to come to pass.

Other than that, it's really anyone's guess. The special characters are pretty likely though.

I'm not sure about the nobs, seeing that they aren't THE choice in the new codex.
Grots neither, but the 3-up is a strong argument.
A Battlewagon is deserved.

I certainly hope for new battewagons and buggies/trakks. The missing metal special characters also seem likely candidates to be released soon. But about the 3-up grot, has anyone checked he is not from one of the new sprues, like the trukk or bike sprues?

I have all of the new stuff from the ork spearhead box and the 3-up grot is not included. There's only two grots on the new plastic sprues. One for the back of a warbike and one on a backpack (like the kommando deal).

hmm.....well there IS a 40k summer campaign ahead, so I can suspect we'll see at least some stuff there. until now, there have been metal minautes for the whole range of special characters in 4th edition, so I suppose we'll see those. considering the burna/loota box, a nob/flash gitz sprue sounds likely. I don't thing we'll ever get plastix meganobz. or "gargbosse" as they are called in germany for some reason...

GW's approach is now (allegedly) to fully support an army. I take that to mean that there will be an official GW model for everything. That includes a cybork upgrade available for units that get painboyz, I would hope. No more "just build it yourself" like the last codex. At the least, they need an 'official' model for the looted wagon and battlewagon just to set a minimum size for tourney play. Is a battlewagon the size of a wartrack (unlikely, but 'legal') or a landraider, or something in between?

There's rumors of fifth edition being summer 2008 and having a new battlebox with orks in it. Maybe then? AFAIK, nothing past March (vamp counts) is known, and looking back at 2007, there were 3 months with no new codeci/books for any system. So, maybe April or another month will see a second wave?

I'm also curious how they plan to address some of the boxset vs. unit model counts. Kommandoes and Tankbustas come 4+nob. At least kommandoes have the special weapon blisters - 3 boxes, 2 blister, and you have a full unit and two nobz left over. The tankbustas - 4 boxes and have 3 nobz and 2 guys left over. Unless they plan to make you order individual boyz from direct sales, there's no easy answer.

I'm also very disappointed with the loota/burna sprue. The mek is clearly a downgrade for the lootas and really isn't a great choice for the burna either. At least it's not too hard to kitbash a fifth deffgun from some bitz, but I still think that was a bad decision on GW's part not to give you bitz for the fifth loota/burna on the sprue.

I don't know when it's coming, but it should be coming, and I'm anxiously awaiting all the goodies. It also makes me want to hold off on building an army.

I thought the Nob was an upgrade for the tankbustas so i ordered 3 boxes-time to get the converting tools out...
Yet another way to make you buy more box sets...

well i spoke to my sales contact at GW head office yesterday, he wouldnt go into details but he said that the reason Orks didnt get a recut buggys etc was because the designers have been working on a £30-40 vehicle that he refused to name ,but he thinks it will be out before games day.
I think it will be the battle wagon and i think its been held back to coinside with this planet strike thing thats due.
I would expect some plastic generic leader model too, plastic warboss would make sense.

I got my mits on a Ork Spear head and i have to admit i am very impressed , the models are great and a massive improvement on the old stuff , the new extra nob sprue for the boys is great too.

The models that really suprised me the most was the warbike mob ,i couldnt understand the move away from single bikes , but looking at the sprues on the new warbike mob its a great decision , and the giant axe thats on the sprue is huge!!! the chain swinging arm is cool too .

I'm not sure how you could be disappointed???? The box has 5 Orks and 11 special weapons!!!!!!

It's like getting a 5-man marine combat squad w/ each of: flamer, plama gun, melta gun, missle launcher, lascannon, plasma cannon, and multi melta.

In my mind this is one of the best kits that they have never made. would you rather go back to having to buy all of your special weapon guys in metal blister packs????

I just bought 2 boxes of boys and 3 boxes of burna/lootas: it equals 37 models and 37 special weapons!!!!!!

20 boys
2 Nobs
15 burna/loota/mek boys

5 Big Shootas
5 Rokkit Launchas
12 burnas
12 deffguns
3 Kustom Mega Blastas

ooops, forgot that there are:

2 TL Shootas
2 Big Choppas
2 Power Klaws

but I guess those are Nob weapons.

Still,..... it was a great way to add a whole bunch of special weapons to some existing Orks!!!!!!

I think that the Nob - Flash Git plastics would be absolutely MEGA!!!!!

I think there should be:

Nobz/Flash Gitz box.
Buggy/Wartrakk Box
Battlewagon
(Metal) Deffkopta

And then after the 5th Ed box comes out, a plastic Gretchin box, even if they are simple 1-piece plastics.

But I doubt this. I'm dissapointed with GW's support for Orks. They've always managed to bring out every model for every Codex, including special characters. Here we are with Orks, and only half of the stuff has models.

I'd like some plastic Stormyboyz. The current models are like .45 slugs.

If all the current rumors are true, we should be looking at

40K Starter Ork Boyz
40K Starter Grots
40K Starter Warboss
40K Starter DeffKopta
Stompa

I personally think we will be getting a new plastic sprue to make Storm Boyz as well. I think the current bitz pack solution is a stop gag measure to buy time and clear out all the old bitz inventory surplus.

On a similar note, it would only take a single new sprue to concert Nobz/Flashgitz

One of the main reasons I started Orks was that they were essentially unsupported by GW which forced me to be creative. It also meant that every ork army I saw were completely different, which I think made the orks unique.

However, the new trukk is pretty customizable, so if the new buggies and battlewagon kits are similar I'd be pretty happy.

A return to plastic grots would be a good move if anyone buys them.

I would really like to see a full range for orks. It disgusts me how often marines get revisited when orks are still bare bones. The new releases were a great step forward, now lets hope they can finish the job. The lack of a battlewagon kit, and ork special character models, is a major embarassment to GW.

A stompa kit would be ridiculous. There aren't enough Ork players to justify a kit that large for us. The baneblade was only possible because it could be used by any imperial or chaos force, and with a bit of a stretch, Tau. Considering Imperials make up over half the factions in 40K, this makes justifying it easier.

I'd love to see one mind you, but I don't see it happening, ever.

It's possible from a Forgeworld perspective. As far as the Baneblade, Orks can use it to! It was a totally viable option. The only other one would be a Titan as Imperial armies can use them and they could be converted to Chaos and possibly even Orks. However, there are things that Orks need far more than that. I understand people who like the "uniqueness" of Ork armies because Ork players are forced to scratch build everything, but not all people who enjoy Orks want to put up with that crap. Battlewagon please!?

Maybe I'm too much of a fanboi, but I really expect we'll see a second release that covers the major FOC entries. I can see GW not doing a cybork conversion kit, but there should be a battlewagon and warbuggies! A Nob/FlashGit box would be very welcome, as would a Badrukk fig (he was my favorite in second edition). Plastic meganobz and artillery would be fun (but unlikely). At the least, I think they would do a new boxset of artillery. If fifth edition hits this year, and the box set is Orkz vs. Marinez (Hurr!) then it would make sense to see it then. Waagh!

I think they'd sell a lot more stompa kits than people expect. Orks have always been popular with people (look at Adepticon's Team Tourney), it's just that the old codex was out of date, it wasn't a great tourney list (other than KoS), and too much had to be scratchbuilt. If those items are addressed, I think you'll see a lot more orks at tourneys.

It's quite possibly just the grot from the new starter set.

dietrich wrote:GW's approach is now (allegedly) to fully support an army.

That's (allegedly) been their approach since 3rd edition was released. It was the reason they originally gave for dropping options from the Marine Dreadnought and Razorback.

And then 6 months later we get an Ork codex with only half of the army list in models...

So yeah, put a lot of faith in GW claiming to be fully supporting something...

If Orks are back in the starter, have a much better codex, and lots of shiny new models, cheaper than they were before, I can't see them staying a escond string army for long.

Most Guard players I know sprung for single BaneBlade.
Most Ork players I talk to, talk about buying multiple Stompas.

Maybe it's just a local phenomena, but I see more Ork armies than Guard in 2008, and I just expect it to grow with the 5th edition release.

There is a rumor of a new 5th edition starter set.

Basicly it gives you enough mini's to start playing, but not enough for an army.
2d edition had 40 orks, 40 grots, 2 squads of marines, and some cardstock terrain.

3d edition had 2 squads of marines, a landspeeder, and 2-3 mobs of dark eldar. Also introduced the plastic terrain, the tank traps, and the plastic fuel drums.

4th was Battle for McCragg- squd of marines, the assorted Nid's, and the plastic terrain.

Starter sets are great for beginners who are just getting into the hobby.
