Also had a quick crack at the heavy flamer terminator. You can see the head a lot better with a coat of paint. The model has only received the basecoat so far.

Some pics of the librarian so far (about 8 to 10 hours work) I’m pretty pleased with my shading on the lower arm armour (the only finished bit) my light sourcing has come out really nicely. I was a bit sceptical of doing such a dark grey under the arm but it looks pretty good along with the paint chips and rust streaks.


The assault squad so far... sorry about the blur I wasn't using my usual camera.

One of my ideas for basing the assault marines. I was planning on putting them on different lengths of wire from about 1cm to 4cm long.

What do you think?

Are you going to cover the wire with something like raptors have or will you leave it exposed and paint it a "background" color? Or neither?

As a suggestion, and since I know you're up to it, why not attach the wire to the backpack?

You could then attach cotton, spray paint and airbrush it into proper color, and even leave some light coming from the exhaust port from the fire. This would cover the wire and make your Assault Marines look BEAUTIFUL.

Or go for armour cast bits.

Or wrap Green Stuff around the wire. In a fire-like way.

I've never been a fan of the the second founding ultramarine chapters. But you sir/madam, have changed my mind! I say hats off to you, sons of orar. That is excellent. I can't wait to see the venerable dread! And I think the smoke from the jump pack is a grand idea.

Well the Son's Of the Orar are one of the coolest ultramarine successor chapters out there! They are one of the few that are cool.

Oh and about the assault marines base, I was just going to paint the wire black or dark grey. I don't like the idea of flames coming out of SM jump packs. Maybe for ork storm boyz, think about it, no flames and smoke come out of modern military jet engines so why should it come out of jump packs for warriors 38,000 years in the future? Though I do like your light effect idea. I was thinking doing light blue to white inside the engines with a bit of light effect on the armour under the jets.

I didn’t get a huge amount done today and as I’m going away and promised some pics I’ve got some of my other SM army from a year or so ago along with my painted Sons of Orar.

The sergeant. I haven't really decided if I like the thing on his head, though the shoulder pads look good.

Yeah, I don't think you should go with that ornament on his head. Maybe, on his backpack?

The head ornament is way too large. It's about the size of his head, and that could be a problem.

Whats the blue chapter?

Hey guys back from Italy now ... yesterday the guy came to drop off my dreadnoughts and nobody answered the door so no dreads till Monday :(

Thanks for the feedback on the helmet conversion... looking at it now I see what you mean, its just way too big for his helmet so as you say, I’m going to put in to his back pack...

A lot of you asked for a shoulder pad tutorial when I was doing the tactical squad so here it is.


A rectangle of plasticard was cut out a bit bigger the back of the shoulder pad.


This was also done for the bottom of the shoulder pad.


The larger piece of plasticard was glued on with super glue, the smaller one.


Once the glue was 100% dry the inside of the shoulder pad was carefully filed out with a small rotary file.


The same was done to the outside, and the shoulder pad is ready to glue onto your model, if you're fussy then you can fill in any cracks with green stuff, though I don't bother with table quality models. Though if it’s for a competition it is defiantly worthwhile as attention to detail is what makes a winner!

What was the other blue chapter in your army pics?
Also check white dwarf 300, it has some of the most intresting stuff out there, and it will help to give you ideas for your space marine army.
