Just started painting the assault marines (I’ve changed the head on the sergeant now) so there should be plenty of pics for tomorrow if I get some of them done by then.

Got 3 assault marines painted today and plenty of pics of them for you to see and comment on.

I also thought up a bit of fluff today about different coloured helmets:

Red helmets are worn by marines on their first tour of duty with that squad, once they have done their first campaign (on return to the fortress monastery) they are fully initiated into that particular squad and given a white helmet. Marines that have served with particular bravery or have served with a squad for a long time may have other parts of their armour painted white to signify their deeds and service.

What do you think?

Anyway onto the marines painted today.


I’m really pleased with them. The spikes on the shoulder pad were a spur of the moment idea, all they are the heads of pins inserted into small pre-drilled holes. You can also see in the last picture the glow from the jump pack engines.


The engines were painted with watered down ice blue then heavily dry-brushed with skull white. I then painted over the area with a dark blue wash. The results aren't bad though they could be a little brighter. Maybe a little more highlighting with an ice blue and skull white mix?? I’ll have to experiment a bit more I think

Ok how do you do this could send me an email on how to do this with Dark Green?

Best jump pack exhausts I've ever seen. I'm lovin your work. I hope all the positive feedback you get serves well as fuel as you try to paint your whole army up to this standard! Keep on rockin.

Looks like paper clips.

Paper clips are the best but i couldn't find any so i just used some wire of about the same thickness.

Great work as usual man, though I am not quite sure I am a fan of the spike strip on the shoulder of the SGT, but hey all around amazing as usual. I love those sanguinary gaurd too but I think they are a bit mmmm cumbersome.

I'm a fan of the spined reinforcement on the Assault Marine's shoulder. It has an nice gladiatorial feel.

It is an awesome kit. It even has ALL the weapon options! No need for extra parts, all the arm variants are there and you can build and have all 3 of them not just the one you usually get.

Anyway less of my chat and more of the pictures.

Either we arent talking about the same kit , or your wrong . The Ven. Dread does'nt have a multi-melta .
