Very sweet dread. Its great to see the view of the marine interred within, and the weapon options! I didn't know before if you got just the weapon, or the shoulder mount also! Now I know, thank you!

That'll save me some pennies for when its time to order a forgeworld resin dread!

Quick question!

(Or two!)

Are the marine helmets that come with the Venerable Dread kit 'marine sized'?

And, could you take some pics of the helmets from the dread kit on regular marine bodies?

Thanks!

The helmets are marine sized though they don’t have the same neck piece as normal marines; instead they are the same as terminator helmets. This isn’t a problem though if you know how to use a file. I offered one up to a marine body today so there'll be some pics in a couple of days.

I finished assembling the 1st dread today so I’ll take some pics ready to show you in my nest update. as it is such a lovely kit I’ll probs spend a couple of days painting it (like I did with the LR) though as its got so much detail I think that spraying it would not be the best idea, though I’ll decide when I get round to painting it.

as I’ve now seen the new blood angels stuff and am thinking how cool it is, I’m thinking of maybe having a squad or two of them in my army... good idea?

Cheers, SoO

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

I love the new Ven Dread kit, if only we could somehow pit my Chaos conversion up against your loyalist (scum) one...

Although this blog just makes me want to start a loyalist marine army even more...

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

Just getting towards finishing the 2nd dread. So here are some more pics of him.

I was also thinking about writing some fluff about the 2 dreads. But I’ll go into that when I have more time. Though the basic gist of the story is that they contain the bodies of Lucien, commander of the 3rd company for 5 centuries, until he was grievously wounded in M37.894 during a surprise attack by Dark Eldar on the planet of Yesthar Prime. In the same battle company champion Dexion on the 3rd was also mortally wounded when covering the retreat with Commander Lucien. They were allowed suit of dreadnought armour for their bravery and heroicness on the field... as the two served together for near 3 centuries before the Yesthar incident they were nigh inseparable and have always taken to battle together ever since.

I’ll expand on the story at some point in the near future... I hope you like it

Love the arch window themed bits for those.

And the leafy las cannons!

When do you do your battle damage? After modelling or pre-painting or during painting?

Love it. Good to see they come with the cracked earth bases too. Nice fluff. You could put dark eldar helmets from their belts as trophies, I have some spare if you need some. Looking forward to the painting!

edit [I just noticed that this was my 1000th post! I'm glad it was on such a cool thread! Keep up the great work sons of orar]

Unfortunately I have my AS level exams coming up in about 6 to 8 weeks so I won't be able to update the blog as often as I have been doing in the past. I also won't be able to do as much painting as I have been doing (I won't be doing any in the week) ... the reason is I need some good results... if I don't get them I won't be able to get a good job to pay for the models I paint... as you all know: no model = no army = no blog

So from now on I’ll be doing a blog update with pictures every 1 or 2 weeks until early June as to an update every couple of days.

but on a more cheery note: I managed to squeeze in about 6 hours of modelling this weekend around the revision and managed to largely paint Lucien... well he is totally painted apart from his flag and some other little details as you will see...

The flag was detached for painting but I’m pleased with the result so far.

Some more detailed shots of the weapon options. I tried the same scorching effect as I used on the lascannons on the Land Raider.

A picture or rust on an iron gate I saw this morning... might have a go at replicating it on some armour.

i'll have a go at writing ome more fluff in my free time and i'll put up some pics of dread heads on marines as soon as possible

Cheers,

One of the best P&M blogs on Dakka, bar none! Your painting skill leaves me with a sense of awe. Can't wait to see more, and good luck with your AS level exams when they do finally roll around!

Good luck with your AS exams. I didn't work nearly hard enough during mine and I can tell you those results can come back to haunt you! I applaud your work ethic, but with your painting skills, it does not surprise me.

Not a fan of the new Ven Dreadnought model, but you've done a fantastic job on it, as usual. Hope you've got the Librarian stowed away safe until you have time to do it justice. I'll be looking out for it at GD this year

Seriously though, outstanding work. I love absolutely everything you're doing here and i eagerly await your new stuff (even if it is due to be more infrequent).

Off-topic: I admire your dedication, starting revision so early (though i do understand it). Did you do any exams in January? What did you get? (only asking cos the results came out the other day)
