A friend and I actually attempted to do such a thing on halo 3, setting up grav lifts at angles with rapidly spawning fusion cores that caused explosions on the beach.

Ran out of spawnable object space before we completed it however.

Same here, though my gaming time will likely also be spent on reach.

I made a large AT-AT(or whatever the large 4 legged version of that is) in Halo 3 which had a similar thing - firing fusion coils towards a base

The new Forge should make building and designing such things so much easier

What's the difference with limited edition vs. normal? I think I'll just be picking up the normal one tonight.

And ugh @ 8 pages to read through . Maybe someone can start a thread with impressions now that people actually have the game...

You can read all the extras you get with each edition at the link above

There are essentially 3 different versions. Normal, limited and legendary.

Legendary is the mac-daddy version with models, books etc, as well as some extra in-game stuff (elite armour, flaming spartan helmet).

Limited has the elite armour and a few extra bits (books etc).

Campaign is le sweet. The Target Designator is my new favoritest toy, ever.

And I wish I got to use it in every level.

It's great! I love the stealth mission (3?) The space mission is quality too.

I also like how whatever your spartans armour type, colour and such that it is who you use in campaign.

The forklift is by far the most devastating anti-Hunter weapon in the game.

It was funny playing on the first day on prime time with everyone on multiplayer pressing the wrong buttons (including myself.. pressing b for melee )

Yeah, for now I'm sticking with default (melee on the bumper). I keep forgetting to use the armor abilities, despite having played the beta... although a lot of the scenarios don't seem to use them!

Lots of crappy games, but for the team games I had a sniper one where I was +8, another sniper one where I only died once and a Team Swat where I had the most kills. For some reason I'm better at these than the normal modes... guess I have a quick twitch but can't seem to kill anyone if it's not 1-2 shots per kill . Flashing back to the days of the Halo 1 pistol, too...

Anyway, sweet game, will try the single-player campaign tomorrow! Is it possible to join with random people to do a cooperative campaign, or only with "friends"? (And also for firefight?)

It was funny seeing people's comments encountering things for the first time. There's a multiplayer map where you can briefly float above the level, and in space... hearing people on the mic going "I'm in space... what do I do now..." was hilarious. Also, the sound is muted appropriately (although it should probably be dead silent) which is cool!

I have to admit, on the whole, that I'm rather disappointed with the game. Overall, it shows that Bungie is tiring of the Halo series, and has no desire to innovate.

The campaign is nice, but it was hard for me to follow, at times. What's more, I'm still frustrated that they couldn't add in a few simple squad commands using the 3 d-pad buttons they don;t use. Would "go there/shoot that," "come here/get in" and "hold position" have been that hard? What bothers me about this is that there are points in the game where you supposedly have a squad under your direct command, but can't tell the lackluster Marine AI to do anything useful.

Multiplayer is just as much of a letdown. They did so much to promote their new class system, but in reality, it pales in comparison to most other class-based multiplayer games. There is no synergy between classes, and certain maps/game modes where certain abilities are plain out useless.

Finally, my biggest gripe might very well be the squandered potential of the armor customization system. Giving the different armor options bonuses instead of going with the pure aesthetics could have made for a much deeper, more interesting game.

There are a few things the game does right. I like that my armor options show up in campaign cut scenes, in particular. I appreciate the inclusion of slit screen co-op and horde (Firefight) modes, and ForgeWorld plus the theater are awesome, on top of that. But these features are what we've come to expect from the series, and, largely, do not break any new ground.

Spoiler:
Perhaps the biggest wasted opportunity is the lack of any multiplayer space combat gametypes. By far, the space combat missions where the funnest in the campaign, and the most innovative thing about the game for the series. A direct port of the campaign space combat map into multiplayer and firefight, so that players can dogfight each other or take on waves of enemies, respectively, would have been huge amounts of fun. I hope, at least, that they will add this in a future update or DLC pack.

It's not the game I wish it was, nor that it could be.

They were never intended to be 'classes', like in Battlefield or Battlefront. They're 'loadouts', and are made to suit individual playstyles rather than battlefield roles.

Yeah, because that would be so fair on newbies.

It obviously works for a ton of other multiplayer FPS's, like CoDMW2.

It's not the same. In MW2, I can just pick up someone's FAMAS/Akimbo Rangers/Akimbo G18s. Halo is closer to classic deathmatch shooters like Goldeneye, and as such is reliant on skill, not gear and perks.

Gear upgrades might be good on game types where you are fighting the AI (such as compaign and firefight). Personally I don't really like gear upgrades such as the ones in CoD where the higher rank you are the better bonuses you get.

I stopped playing CoD:MW2 purey because of the upgrades. It's no fun when someone who spends their life online pops up with the airstrike or helecopter.

I've enjoyed what I've played of it so far, though only got a couple of hours in last night.

My main problem is with how the new spartan pc looks, theres just something i cannot place my finger upon, i think mainly its because my white armoured spartan looks more like he's been painted with a mixture of space wolves grey and codex grey.

The shoulder armour looks a little to sleek for my liking right now, but I have no doubt I'll be unlocking more pieces for purchase later.

I think Bungie wanted to tone down the super-colourful models of Halo 3. White looked kind of silly, as did pink and yellow.

Colours look nice and washed-out now, even on Elites.

I'm already diving on into forge and mad a map simply to get used to controls, it sucks when actually played in slayer etc. So I decided to try and make a different one, a team based one. So far I have made the convenant base, with a vehicle depot (that you have to spawn inside, thank you one way doors! ) and inside that is 3 revenants a wraith and a teleporter, just for the red team/covenants. The teleporter leads to a sniper nest, where there is a focus rifle and a health pack on the back of a doorway you walk through in the nest, the covenant porter is the only way to get to this spot, barring jetpacks. There's also two 2 storey buildings led to by a ramped bunker, and in there is a variety of weapons, and health pack, and shade turrets positioned extremely carefully, so when you use them your still in first person to look out the window, because your view sort of blends through the wall, it's quite awesome. To add more detail the tower that leads to the sniper nest is just stacked perfectly aligned blocks, and at the bottom of the tower is the roof of the vehicle depot, which has barricades and multiple weapons for the covenant to feast on, theres stairs at the side to get onto this roof area.

Meanwhile at the opposite side of the map atm there is just the begginings of a 3 storey building in the middle of their area, with floor plans for vehicle depots on each side, also blocked with 1 way doors. 1 will contain a scorpion, whereas the other will most likely have 1 of each type of warthog, though I haven't decided yet. The play will be able to get onto the roof of the UNSC depots aswell, and if they look up they will see bridges which run from the main building to other buildings at the sides of the depots, theres gonna be lot's of mounted machine guns over her! And once more, a sniper nest with an actual sniper will be accesible from one or both of the depots, there will again be a health pack, and I'll probably use mancannons to send people there, that or teleporters. (btw just for everyones information, all my teleporters have the frame on them, I think it looks alot nicer, neater.)

So yeh, it's really shaping up, extremely neat for me aswell! I have no real plans for the middle yet, apart from possible continuous artillery in the form of cannon, vehicle'ed fusion coils, and possibly walkways at either side. Would love feedback, and I'll link the final map when it's done, happy forging to the rest of yers!

PS: are we still having a dakka clan base? Cos I would loooooooooove to make that for us, and I think I'd do a pretty decent job too, trying not to sound vain here but ay well.

Argh! Just had a horrible bout of losing. Everyone votes for the eternally boring SWAT or 'Pro' gametypes, which don't have armour abilities or interesting loadouts.

Team Slayer is an awful playlist, but it's the most popular so I can always find a game there. Wish Bungie would do more to push the objective gametypes.

I totally agree with cheese, but I also tend to get a fairly decent score in SWAT so it doesn't bother me as much.

SWAT's usually my game, for some reason . Even after playing the demo, still getting used to the armor abilities (although I think they're awesome) so SWAT seems to help me out a bit.

I, too, like the objective games a lot... although the main thing for me is finding a team that works together. Once I've done that, any scenario seems fun... although I think if I don't actually "party up" with them, sometimes I can end up on the opposite team!

It's good stuff, for sure
