ok fellas...here is my update... i did today the last three drill weapon bitz...every one different to the others...some are a nod towards GWs way and others to a more traditional lookout...

also i did a bit of fixing GS work on the open visor guy...

look:

and i plucked up some currage to put together a steamknight completly...the pose should look like he uses the second arms with the drill for supporting the weapon but he looks a bit like he needs to pee...

the gun is a a tad influenced by one of my favorite british arms... the sterling patchett...the side mag at least^^

Nice concept, Vic. Somehow your knights reminds me of a Big Daddy from Bioshock. The gun is awesome! As for the pose... It looks odd, indeed

sure? hmmmm....on my thread there are some that say i should reposition him as the weapon would not need support as it is powered by the powerpack...hmmm...

I'm thinking the same way: it's power armour after all. You can make some kind of a belt or a chain even better, wich is connected to the end of the barrel and to some kind of supporting ring or something like that on the shoulder, for example. At least this is the idea I'm going to use for my SM model, who holds a Heavy Bolter in one hand, as the other one points in some direction... Well, It's just my five cents. Of course it's all a matter of preference

I think so far it looks awesome Vik. Seeing as i dont do any modelling anyways, i cant see anything wrong with the pose. Im LOVING how its looking though, those visors are just too cool.

Alrighty, y'all. I gots a question. What color do you think psychic energy takes form in? I mean, is it blue? Green? Red-Fuschia with a splash of yellow polka dots? i have no clue, but i would like to know... unless there is no color to psychic power... O.O

Its has a purpose, believe me, and its part of my project. Sorry if its totally off subject of the contest thread...

i´d say whatever takes your fancy and what goes well with your overall paintscheme...there is really no limits to you... although the polka dots sound a bit too busy for a nice mini

in my opinion good ways are bluish versions or with a hint of purlpe but i also saw really nice lighteffects done in green... depends really only on your own tatse buds here^^

bebop: well i copycat the visor idea once for a SM conversion... somewhere on thsi board i got the idea and ever since i wanted to give it a new try...
here was my first try for my iron templars chapter:

a simple paintjob rather if i may say myself... but the idea was stuck deep in my mind^^ he is by the way an assault marine in a bit of a temper^^ the jumppack was made from an CSM powerpack and some lego parts...

and you don´t model...well i might say otherwise... you model with light...i do with shape^^ just a different canvas really^^

According to Terry Pratchett, the colour of magic is Octarine
But to put it more seriously, the color of energy should depends on the type of this energy, e.g. lightning is blue-white and fire is yellow-red, aswell as on the color scheme of your overall painting, e.g. green looks nice with the heavily red models. Anyway, blue and white are more common as a colours of psychic energy, I believe. In most cases I vote blue

I think you're safe. No final ruling yet from UG, but here was the last thing discussed:

Okay, that's two for a split.

Promblem is, there is no way to create two+ polls in a dakka thread. hand tabulation is too error prone as well.
Rawson wrote:I also am thinking one poll for modeling and one for painting. Considering that the vast majority of the entries thus far have been 40k, I think having a specific fantasy category would be a little useless (except, of course, for those entering pieces in said fantasy poll ).

The pee-pee dance is not nearly as intimidating as one would hope. Ergo, I also think a steam knight should (and would be able to) hold his gun one handed.

Totally part of this tread! Not that I really have anything new to add, but I always make these decisions based on the model and what would be a great complimentary color. Especially on things like power weapons and psychic energy which don't "actually" exist, and hence a "realistic" color cannot be chosen. Go with what you like!

Alirght, thanks for the tips. The reason is cuz I'm trying to start a little fluff with the rest of My army of Wolves. One of the Thunderwolf Guys is going to have signs of psychic power, and i got another model (not in the contest) that will represent him when hes not on the table. The fluff is that he's a psyker that will occasionally put his powers on hold to purify the feel of battle. I'm thinking of putting a chooser of the slain on his mount as well, and trying to figure out how i can model his frost weapon in the form of a spear...

@Vik, I think both is cool. I was thinking about it because i was looking at my snare drum, which happens to be hammered copper But, steampunk wise, both copper, bronze or even a flattened smooth dirty steel is perfect! So either way its a win.

Alrighty then, UG will make his ruling. The two categories are Painting and Modelling, both separate scores. The modelling thread will contain only WIP pictures, and voters will be asked not to take into account any knowledge of the paint job. Likewise, the painting thread is based solely on painting skill and not on modelling. Hope that answers a question, I am going to make a rules update now!

lol...that is waht i too had in mind after looking at armslength for the first time after the assembly of the mini... guess i have to cut and paste again^^

at ishkatar: bloddy hell!!! the feel of the mini is awsome! one thing tho...even if it is failing to be helpful now ...as the mini is already primed... for some reasons i can´t lay my finger on...i don´t like the head...just not my taste...and the cross on his chest...isn´t that a templar cross? how does that fly with the blood raven chapter? or am i misinterpreting something wrong here?

at bebop: a snare drum in copper...and even hammered... well i would apreciate if you PM me your snare drum with a pic^^ wouldlike to see that item! and your color choice is absolutly a cool buffet^^ by the way i am reading atm a steam punk novel called the "affinity bridge" and it sooo cool reading about all those things in that fictious world and picture them in my mind... in your desrcibed colors^^

Thank you! I hope to finish this conversion at last, as i feel like I stuck with this miniature for a quite a long time... That was the main reason I signed for the competition, by the way - to push myself

bebopdrums2424 wrote:I was thinking about it because i was looking at my snare drum, which happens to be hammered copper

I'm sorry to intervene, but aren't you talking about Hi Hat, hammered with some intense drumming?

Thank you. And primer isn't a trouble at all, since everything can be cleaned, cutted and fixed
I chose this head due to it's yelling impression, as the guy, shooting such a gun should obiously yell something
As for the templar cross on his chest... I took this body from the BT upgrade kit mostly becouse of the collar, but I was too lazy to cut the cross off, leaving it as some kind of a Veteran mark or something like that. It's a huge universe and such a simple and common symbol as the cross can be used everywhere by everyone for no real reason. May be it's wrong or may be not. I'm still not sure though. Anyway, it's not too late to fix this.

ok then i have thought about that cross.... have your still some purity seals? i would put some on the outer rims of the cross and have it like an iron cross the germans got in WWII for when being wounded in action... much like the purple heart of the U.S.... this would give him the rightful rank as a vet then.... as for the yelling... i once read that when having hard sounds and forcefull ones at that yelling is the best way to compensate the pressure to your ears...so a yelling heavy gunner is a good idea! i was just a bit unsure of that specific head... but don´t put too much thought into my musings here^^
any way your GS skill is really good and so clean... all those tine alterations to the gun...i am pretty envious^^

Not that it matters a lot, but Iron Crosses weren't for wounds in ww2. They were for bravery and such. For wounds, they recieved an oval badge with crossed bayonets and a helmet. Black, silver or gold depending on how many times the award had been won. historical trivia asode, the iron cross idea is still a great idea for representing a warrior that has proven himself in battle.

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity lasts forever.

Considering also your duty as a warrior you should not waver. Because there is nothing more auspicious for a warrior than a righteous war.

i think i am a bit hazy on the actual historical WWII stuff so i take your word for it...i only once seen my granddad show me his medals from the war...one smallish box and not even full then...otherwise i was never really interrested but the idea to use this as a sign of mature soldier...

That's exactly what I think. As a part of his fluff he also will have a nickname "Loud"
Ah, and that specific head was the only one yelling in my bits box. I think it's too early to sculpt my own heads, but hopefully I will be able to do it some day.
