Middle Ages Noble. I like medieval stuff, and being part of the nobility means i'd have more access to training in it all etc.
Be stuck in the middle of the Sahara Desert or in the middle of Antarctica?

Sahara Desert. I know normal desert survival tactics and could actually reach some form of civilization or have a chance to do so. In Antarctica, I would probably freeze to death before reaching one of the few stations down there.
Would you rather drink an 8oz cup of someone's foot sweat
or
a normal sized bucket of scummy pond water?

seeing as 40k nowadays seems to be leaning to large scale games, so i would say simplification on the rules.
complicated (in depth) is what warmahords is for. (IMHO)
