Thanks Gorgrimm.
Vik, This is what I was trying to describe. Hope it helps
Of course you could use any thing other than the popsicle sticks.
I suppose you guys are familiar with the Leman Russ tank, specifically its size. The model is 20 years old (almost. I had one in 1996, so at least 18 years old ). Here it is for scale comparison

Some more work on the sinks.

And an exploded view
Looking for a better mirror, or better mirror material. That is just cut from a toothpaste box. I am not sure about the lightbulbs. I liked the idea of globe light fixtures... maybe with some paints and washes... Or maybe they are just too large.
Thanks for stopping by.

Looking amazing.
Just a suggestion, but try making a mirror. Bit of clear plastic stuck to a shiney bit of tin foil, smoothed out carefully? You would be the man for the job on that one. Be interesting to see.

totally knew what you meant mate! of course working with PVA will be a pita when you use wooden popsicle sticks... for this I would use some cut off of PC rather...
the mirror looks good, tho I think cam raises a good point here!...
the lights and the sinks are really good looking additions... it is rather an architectural work than a mere hobby project in my view...
what totally disturbed me tho is the fact that the LR has a massive barrel...er rod...for his cannon... you being the details man and all that... but as you stated it is from a totally different period in your life...

So back from the 63 hour power outage. Fortunately I have a back-up generator so I was able to run pretty much everything. The AC and the refrigerator and the freezer most importantly. However, I accomplished nothing for the entire week :(
Vik, in scale, that battle cannon would be a 14" gun ( The Bismarck had 15" guns, by way of comparison) on the Russ. The recoil would flip that puny tank, and then some, or simply destroy it. That is a 'real' Leman Russ too. Never understood why GW based it upon a French tank. ( the Char B1, If you don't already know) But my scratchbuilts were close copies. My goal was to have them on the table and my opponent would be unable to tell which was real and which was scratchbuilt. So, I had to, well, hold back. It is a pretty lame model. FW tanks are sooo much cooler.
Tried that Cam. Not so good. Last idea is to get that mirrored plastic that craft stores sell, when I get to one. I know they make it, I just do not know how thick it is. Oh, and those foil balloons. A piece of one of those might work... I'll look into it this week. time permitting. The light globes are 24cm in diameter, scale wise, so way too large to have a pair of them. So that'll change too.
And I messed up the doorframes, and rather than try to correct, I simply re-built.
This way I get the sliding doors like on the hab modules.

Had to redo the shower doors too, to make things fit.
Fortunately everything else fits in the updated floorplan

So I did not lose too much. The exterior is essentially all done, except for painting, and the solar panels, and some signage and of course a few rivets where appropriate A little more work on version 2 and I will be ahead of where version one is. Version 2 looks like an improvement too. So happy about that. And apparently when I know exactly what to do, I can work less slowly
And sad news. Corvus Belli is shutting down their official forums. They are 'out-sourcing' to this http://www.data-sphere.net/ This means I will want to re-post some of what's in my terrain thread there. I am wondering, do I post it here, in this thread, or in my thread for Infinity stuff in the Corvus Belli forum here on DakkaThanks for stopping by. Most of it would be WIP stuff, so I'm thinking here in this thread is the better plan. Thoughts?

Good to have you back on track!
Rengineered version looks, if possible, even better than the first, and having working sliding doors are good enough to justify the extra work.
As for posting, for what is worth, one blog here for WIPs and debate, and final/finished pics either in the Showcase or the Infinity thread? (Works for me!)

Thanks Rogue W. Lovin' that avatar, BTW.
Littletower: That sounds the most pragmatic. I'll set up a thread at that newer forum too, just to help beef up the terrain section for a while, I just hope the other really good scratch builders on the Infinity forum also move to the DataSphere.
Doc, here seems a better place than the LoER thread. A photo of the tiles printed on 110# paper --( 200 gsm Google tells me) Though now that I'm looking at paper weights, I see a 140#/260gsm paper. I'll need to look for some of that-- and the tiles printed on photo paper.
Big difference, even though same file, same printer, only paper is different. I sprayed gloss polyurethane sealer on the regular paper.
I've pretty much caught up at this point

Everything lust looks, neater? Seems to fit together better? Ah well, it's an improvement. I'll take it. Just a bit more painting for the interior. I might even finish on time.
Also, pondering the ceiling.

If done neatly, it will show up in photos where the outer walls are removed. Otherwise it won't really be visible. But It will make for some nice photos anyway.

Ha, I just replied over there.
The short version is that oil- / white spirit- based varnish does not result in any bleeding and seals the print from any further bleeding.
I see what you mean on the paper difference. Not good. I don't have any photo paper to play with, but air-brushed on, I reckon that humbrol varnish would seal that too, with no bleeding.
Keep at it. Good progress.

RogueW, I'll check out your thread then. Colors? click the gallery image link below my avatar. Just like those buildings. This'll be part of that set.
And the best way to do mirrors is to...wait for it... use real mirrors. Derp.
These are mosaic tile mirror bits, and they are not too thick at all. Also, for light fixtures
And when put together I get this

A quick overhead shot
I may just get this done in time. The only challenging detaila are the thrones themselves. All else is fairly straightforward. Famous last words eh?
I did in fact move my thread from the old Infinity forum. 40 or so posts. One after another now. No automatically appended next post function. Phew! I'll cut that number down and start bringing more of those pix here. There are some neat WIP shots.

the TP dispenser
and while I at first sight thought the mirrors looked a tad thick...I had to change my mind... it looks perfect... as do the lights above...
I too think dumbing your old stuff in your wip thread is the way too go... but the important thing is to conserve it as to not get it lost in the warp....
as for the LR guns... well... that´s a discussion no one needs to get foam around his mouth ... GW must be consisting of some peeps in desperate needs for compensating....
ah... one thing... the actual thrones are still kept a secret? looks like we only see the actual whole in the wall for now.... right?

May I say that your wife has excellent taste?
Thanks guys. It is a fun challenge to figure how to do these things. Trying to keep in scale is a nice discipline for a change.
Vik, in no particular order: About the LR see here http://www.gocomics.com/tomthedancingbug/2006/09/16/
I have made 2 attempts to come up with a workable way to make 4 thrones. Failed twice. But I'll keep at it. I need a way to make them identical, eh?
I moved most of the thread over to the DataSphere at the request of a few Infinity forumites. I think I'll start bringing the WIPs here once the contest is over.
The Dispenser painted. I put the image I used as a guide in the first photo. It is between my take on it and the Odalisque mini. I'm quite happy with it.
And now they are all in place

And a question. Does the object next to the faucet look like a soap dispenser?

That is what I am going for. I cannot say that I am sold on the metallic though. Plus most styles have the dispenser nozzle higher up, on the pump part. C&C Welcome. That is my "for experimenting" sink, not part of the Comfort Station, BTW. Although if it ends up being nice enough, I'll find a use for it.

It does.
It might be true that usually the nozzle is part of the pump piece, but I figure that would be because it makes for a simpler mechanism - and thus cheaper/more efficient to build, put together and refill once in use - and not an actual requirement. An alternative design, that sacrificed some utility for "aesthetics", could certainly look like that. And design does tend to get in the way of efficiency of design/build/use sometimes...
Red Harvest wrote:I cannot say that I am sold on the metallic though...

With that I agree, for both the TP and Soap dispenser, actually. They appear too roughened up for the overall look, maybe a burnished stainless steel would maybe fit better, IMO, with the rest of the facilities.
As for using it in the Comfort Station (and just to go along with the detailing level displayed so far, not because it wouldn't look great), I'd say a "fixed" version would be in order over a free standing one on the countertop, but that is just nitpicking...

Thanks guys. Re the fixed v. free-standing. There are a number of soap dispensers like that which are fixed. But if the detail is not obvious at first glance, then it is not working right. Wall mounted will convey fixed much better. I was going for this, more or less.
Painting burnished steel is beyond me at the moment. I would have to go NMM to get something close. Maybe I'll experiment, time permitting.
I should have made the stuff out of heavy foil. Saved time on painting....Ooh, there is a thought...
Back to the cutting and drilling board. I am so glad I got a new pin vise before all this started. Getting my money's worth
Anyway, this should work, or something close to it
