i am going to have to go with cod4

while Call of Duty 4 is the best of the list, the best game isn't there. Mass Effect is the best game i've seen on the 360 so far.

i havent tried it yet. so you think its worth buying?

I would have to say CoD4 is the best, however its not best on 360. Its the best when played on PC.

The best in your list would be Halo 3 since you can only play it on 360(other than outfit which I didn't like). The others are all better than Halo 3, but are also better when played on PC, so its a waste to buy them for 360.

Its not a waste if you don't have a good comp.

Very much so. It's pretty unique because it's a Sci-Fi third person shooter but it's pretty realistic. And the cool thing is that it has RPG elements to it. You can level up your character and his skills in various areas but it's all action. Also your char. has a shield that uses kinetic properties, basically the faster something goes the harder it is to get thru the shield, kind of like a bullet proof vest. It is definitely a must buy, oh also there is a ton of replay value to it.

yeah, the main reason i picked cod 4 over halo 3 was because it was realtivly new and people hadn't been playing for years to become ungodly good so it seemed better, and the only reason i play the outfit any more is to get senery idea for my ig

having played on both I think cod4 is better on 360, I prefer pads anyway and on a good large hdtv it just looked better too.

Heh, I play CoD4 on my computer on my 1920x1280 (higher than high def) 37" lcd tv. Plus you get free map packs, mods and a huge amount of great commnuity maps all for free. Oh and you don't have to pay to play multiplayer and laggy as hell multiplayer after their "360 patch". But to each his own.

Yeah that's right I think 360 sucks for FPS, MMOs, RTSs, RPGs, and multiplayer games in general, even if I do develope games for it for a living. But casual games, sports, racing, flight sims/shooters, are still a good fit for a console.

unfourtuatly my computer is way too much of a peice of junk to play anything worth while.

Sure you get all that stuff for free, but a PC that will run CoD4 that well is going to probably cost $5, maybe $10 more then a 360 or PS3. If I could run it that well I'd be playing on PC as well.

2 of the best rpgs in a long time are on 360. mass effect and oblivion. and an even better one is coming out oh so soon.

360 is the most sucessfull system pretty much ever. and it is home of the 3 best selling fps ever. fps cant suck all that bad on 360 now can it? hm
and im pretty sure the best selling multiplayer games guitar hero, and rockband are both viewed as most sucessfull on the 360. yep

You know all 3 of those (4 if you include Bioshock) are all on PC, or will be.

The 360 is the reason I don't feel the need to upgrade my 4 year old PC. It still runs things decently, 2 gig ram and radeon x700, but no need to get anything better for PC's bioshock and things.

for some reason Stirman thinks the 360 sucks when it comes to rpg, fps, and multi player games. where in fact some of the greatest rpg, fps, and multiplayer games in recent history have all had a very strong showing on the 360.

Oooh sorry to say but, fail. HD-DVD is being phased out rather quickly as Blu-Ray outsold it more than 2:1. And in typical Sony fashion the PS3 was slow to start marketing and sales wise but is now quickly approaching the 360 and will soon surpass it. Do your homework big guy

Nice fallacy. HD-DVD =/= 360. You don't post any numbers to back up your statement, and even if you did those numbers would be refuted by other numbers. Fanboy's favor systems. Gamers favor games. The rest is crap. A game is good or it isn't, regardless of the system it is on.

of the current gen consoles the Wii is actually the best selling so far.

Actually the Gameboy and the PS2 are the best ever selling systems if you want to go down that road (gameboy by a huge lead)...

Breakdown of units sold:
Gameboy - 199 million (118.7 Million between bameboy and Color and 81.06 Million Gameboy Advances.)
PS2 - 120 million
NES - 69 Million
SNES - 49.1 Million
Next Gen Platforms < 20 Million each
Nintendo DS - 17.79 Million

Anyways you seem to forget the fact that your 360 burns out at least once per year and MS is only covering it for 3 years, (I'm already on my 3 one in my house and I've burnt out four at work) so guess you won't be playing much after 2009 without dropping more money for a new 360 that MS will only cover under there normal warrenty and not the 3 year one. Also it doesn't take much to run CoD 4 at 360 level of detail, I'm currently running it on a three year old rig with a P4, an X700 and 2 Gigs of RAM at the 360's level of detail whenever one of my buddies are over using my spare machine.

Same issue with counter strike on Xbox, crappers and no one plays it on that system. Yet is one of the biggest games around still today and its over 10 years old. There are various games that are great, but on the wrong system suck balls. The game must cater to the system to work together and become a "good gaming experience", otherwise no dice.

Murderotica strong showing != better experience in any way. Many kiddies are trapped on what their parents bought them for Xmas and of course they want the best games out there, but that in no way shows that they are better when played on that system. And good point at dropping RTs's and MMo's from your rebuttle because obviously thats shooting yourself in the foot. Yes RPGs can be done well on consoles when tailored to the gimped controller scheme that they have access to and work out great I'll give you that one, but lets face it 360 and MS is known for their lack of good RPGs compared to PC and PS2/3's. Congradulations on getting 2 good ones though even if they also exist on PC. Multiplayer games? My bad for not counting Rockband and guitar hero as multiplayer games, by multi I was thinking more like 8+ people. Not 2-4 players a.k.a split screen or effectively co-op modes (snooze...). I enjoy both those games emensly, although they aren't 360 exclusive. I think the best version of guitar hero is for the PS2, because you can put any song you want onto it and play it for free no stupid 800 MS points per 3-track set, plus make it as easy or difficult as you want. In terms of multiplayer games I was thinking more along the way of CS:S, DoW, CoH, Battlefields(all of them) all of which we see very successful 360 versions or even console versions of... right?.... No? Oh well it happens. Major issue I have with most 360 multiplayer games like CoD is the live lag fests and the inability to fix the issue. Not to mention the inability to properly admin your own server in terms of map rotation, mods, add-ons, cheaters and abusers, and general Xbox L337 kiddies. Then of course you have the complete lack of support for the mod/map maker community that generally support any good multiplayer game today whether its an RTS, FPS, ect. Instead you play the same 6-10 maps over and over constantly screaming "VETTO! VETTO! VETTO!" into the mic while waiting for MS to put the forced DL content 3-6 months after release forcing you to cough up more cash to get a minor injection of fun back into your $60 game. How about you quote me on this as a game developer this round of consoles ain't gonna silence crap on the PC vs 360 vs PS3 vs Wii front. The issue you keep missing is the fact that 360/PS3/Wii and all your next gen consoles are based on high end PC gear and their OS's which means developers are making them on their PC's and dev kits. Making it pretty easy if they want to to keep the game going in a PC version. Even easier than it would be to say make a PS3 and a 360 version side by side. So you will see many of the PS3 only and 360 only console games also having PC versions and most of the tri-console games also having a PC version. So all in all PC's will probably keep getting more of the good games than any one console. Until the console creators come together to make just one console ("the one console future" look it up) PC gaming isn't threatened at all.

Sounds more like yours burns out then everyones. Yes, there have been some issues more than others but that is why the warranty was extended and their customer service is supposed to be excellent about it. They have also changed hardware to correct it. No one I know has had a bum 360 but I know of two PS3's that have died and had to be shipped in. They can all go wonky. Even if there is only a 1% defect rate on something someone, somewhere out there is going to get it.

I didn't say that a game would be great regardless of the system it was on, I said that what mattered was whether the game was good or not. Besides, those weren't really the same games now were they? Sure they had the same name but they didn't play the same and/or had different coding as well as other differences. Ports are tricky, but I also was referring more to consoles then PC to Console. Starcraft was still a great game on the system it was designed for and so was Counter Strike. They are great games. I like great games.

Of course at the time of the two games you mentioned the control and hardware differences between PC's and consoles were much greater. If you want to talk about current games it is a whole different story. In the end the Orange Box is a great game no matter if you have it on PC, 360, or PS3. Same is True for Bioshock or Oblivion. Even if they botched the port to one of the systems that doesn't mean that suddenly the game isn't good, just that it isn't good on that system. There are also exclusive games to each system that are very compelling though not really for the PS3 at the moment.

Sony hasn't paid me anything nor Microsoft nor Nintendo. If God of War 3 is good I'll buy it. If Gears of War 2 is good I'll buy it. If Mario Kart Wii is good I'll buy it. I'm not loyal to any of them, I just want good games and I see no Earthly reason to honestly believe why I should think one is better then another if they each have decent games.

actually that's exactly what you said. read your post. Although I will agree with you on the matter of more current games not really being much different when they go multi-console. Sure one may have more features then another or better graphics but when it comes down to it they are pretty much the same.

As to the 360's burning out comment, although you are right that not everybody experienced the problem the 360 was the most flawed system to be launched of the current gen consoles. While all systems have their fatal errors at launch (usually over heating or disc reader errors) MS did a very poor job in fixing these things by rushing the 360 out in time for Christmas instead of finishing it and working out most of the problems like Sony did.

I see what is causing the confusing so I'll try to clarify. You are reading into the sentence that if a game is good on one system then it is good on all systems. I'm reading it that if it is good on whatever version you play then that version is good. Playing a game that is good on the PC is still a good game and meets the criteria, but you would still have to judge each port separately. Saying a game is good does not imply that every iteration of the game is good, which is what you seem to be reading into it. I'm still trying to run your logic and it isn't working.

Here is what you seem to be reading:

Starcraft on PC is good. I don't care that it is a PC title. Starcraft is ported to the Nintendo 64 and since Starcraft on the PC was a good game then Starcraft64 must be a good game.

Dead Rising

Oblivion got me back into video games.

Not buying a 360 has saved me many hours to actually paint my armies.

alright alright asked for it on that one. haha. and was way off. oh man. haha
my point i was trying to make is, its not like the 360 is doing poorly they have recovered from their initial crappyness. and soon the system if not already should start turning a profit for microsoft.

will soon pass it. key word. i am as big of a ps3 fan as the next guy, and i hope that does happen. but you have to admit xbox and xbox live have pop culture appeal and big title american games in a dead lock.
as for ps3 there is the undeniable fact that every ps3 game has to load 1-5 gigs of data onto your hard drive and that is not comforting in the slightest.

my 360 has never burnt out, never will. actually my pc has more problems than anything i own. more than my traumatized cat.

and the big problem with bridging platforms is that game performance is not the same. both the orange box and fear had very strong showings on the 360 and pc, however not so much on the playstation3.


I absolutely agree that rpgs and mmos are unmeasureably better on the ps3 and pc's (respectively). there is no doubt in my mind. it is interesting however to see companies put out these great crossbreed rpgs, that have faired very well on the 360. Its a great time to be a gamer of any sort (console or pc) because competition between developers and obviously sony, nintendo, and microsoft, has led to not only higher quality games, but also games that blend the lines between genres. like masseffect, bioshock, etc... and the unfortunate thing is that we have yet to see any of these progressive titles from the japanese. lately they have stuck to the same rpg formula (lost odessey, ff12, persona) The same driving formula (ridge racer, gturismo) and the same hack and slash (dmc4, ninja gaiden). in my opinion, for the ps3 to prosper, the heavy hitting japanese companies need to (for the first time) take a hint from the other game developers in the world. imagine a final fantasy running in a system along the lines of what we are going to see with fallout3!!!! (and before someone jumps to correct me, i am not talking about wii at all here.)

I am unfortunately very familiar with the one console future. and it looks bleak to me haha.
You couldnt be more right that these next gen consoles are dummed down pc's in a family friendly high impact plastic case. and im sure the line between the two will become even more indistinguishable in the years to come.
