Also enjoyed Dead Rising. Lol however, be warned it is crap if you have a low-def tv, because apparently you can't read any of the fonts.
As to the 360's burning out. Current statistics have it at around 65%+ of all 360's have died out and needed to be replaced, which is unheard of for a console in the past to have such a high failure rate. And you are correct the newer systems(and by that I mean the elite models, not the replaced old models) are more resistant to the heat damage the normal model suffers from. But the replacements people are recceiving are not impacted by these improvements.
Consoles are great for certain types of games I agree. I think they excel for party games, most sports games, FPS that are specifically designed for them(Halo comes to mind), and many others. But they are a fare cry from being the end all systems that will force out PCs as a gaming platform.
On another note if you like RPGs/Action games Too Human may be something to look into if you own a 360.

Too human does look very interesting. its rather strange that game has been in development and a rumor for so long.
I cant believe its finally coming out.

am i the only person who didnt "get" Dead Rising?
I keep dying and am sent right back to the beginning, whats with that save system? I havent tried it since I upgraded to a HDTV so maybe I'll have another look.
Am playing DMC4 at the mo, is ok, pretty but the game is nothing new.
Am also playing Turok which is again ok, a bit generic.
My other half has just renewed her mobile contract and so has a PS3 on the way as her "free" gift which say says I can have for my birthday prezzie. Hurrah!

The way I understand Dead Rising, is to think of it in terms of the movie Groundhog Day.

I just watched Groundhog day over the weekend. reckon I'll have another go then.
Does anyone else bother with achievements? I really enjoy the kinda game within the games of unlocking them and think that PS3 games are gonna seem a bit hollow without them.
I realise they mean nothing other than an ongoing high score contest with your mates but I'm addicted!

Are achievements just points? I don't see the point if they
are just that. Now if there was a virtual dollhouse, I mean,
"trophy case", that might be kind of cool.
Or an achievement garden.
Or an achievement paper doll, I mean, player character
that has equipment and skills like in a role playing game.
I'm thinking like the Gaia forums, where forum posters
win stuff for their avatars through posts, competition, barter,
and the auction house.
Not that I'd ever post there.

yeah you have an ongoing total displayed next to your gamertag. each game has (generally) 1000 points which can be unlocked for doing specific things e.g. score a goal in the first minute. these achievements are listed as little goals and i usually have a bit of competition with my mates over who gets the highest score.
basically its the arcade high score table table for this generation

They always reset the high scores wherever I went to play
video games, so I never got too attached.

but with achievements they add on to your prev high scores.
I currently have something like 15000 points, 1000 from some games and paltry scores from others they all add up into my total gamerscore.
its good fun and makes you go back to games to do the things you missed the first time (eg. in Tomb Raider you get points for not dying against bosses, you dont need these to finish the game but is fun to go back and do these challenges).

Achievements are all about measuring your e-peen.
It can be a fun meta-game for some, but since the points are worth nothing more than bragging rights I personally don't care about trying to get them.

Yeah, what I meant was, I never really cared about high scores growing up, and so
the closest thing I get to worrying about them are xp in roleplaying games and the
likee.

The point is that your not able to complete the game without dying. It saves your characters stats and you get to keep them when you restart the game after you die. so each time you die it gets easier cuz you level up and whatnot and get to keep it.

Ever play Planescape: Torment? There were a few puzzles in there that involved
you dying to solve.

Im a fan of shooters so.....
CoD4 is definately great for the casual crowd, same as bioshock.
If you like competition though halo 3 is where its at. both of those 2 are the best 360 games right now.

I wouldn't say Halo 3 is the best, rather the most hyped.
