This btw is VOR the one with the Union and Neo Sovs, not to be confused with VOID which has Veridians and VASA a totally different group of American and Soviet-themed armies.
http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2008/04/28/14153
Mike Nielsen has announced that work has started on a new version of the VOR sci-fi combat rules.
From his announcement:
Yes its true VOR 2.0 is in the works. I’ve been working on it for a bit now. And let me say I’ve been having quite a good time doing so. It’s also true that a certain “red shirt” got in touch with me recently in regards to VOR (how he tracked me down is a mystery, I think he used sorcery). Nothing official with that at this point but certainly some potential.
Regardless tho, VOR 2.0 is going to happen. The details on it’s release, format, etc are still pending.
So what facts can I give you…
Updated rules
Advanced storyline (10 years further)
Full comprehensive scratchforce rules (!)
Full campaign system
Uber huge battle terrain table (D1000)
New additional races plus all the originals
Plus lots more
This is just off the top of my head. I’m currenly planning it to be a large hardback book for ease of handling and stocking (plus VOR always deserved a hardback dammit!). Obviously new miniatures are vital but the core game needs to be refreshed and available first and foremost.

Meh...vor and void held no interest for me the first time around. I suspect, based on their initial failing, that they didn't hold interest for the large majority of folks, as well. I'm sure there are a group of folks who are very excited about this, and I'm happy for them!
I just don't think I'll be buying it. I don't even have time for the stuff I do play, including FOW, LOTR, 40k, Hordemachine, etc.

Well, as a shop owner, I would strongly suggest to folks that liked the game, and want to buy it again, that they pre-order and put some money down to convince their local store that they want it. The original game sold very badly, and most stores were trying to dump it at 1/2 off pretty quick. It's not going to show up in many shops unless you show your LGS that you are interested in it.

Agreed.
I recall a game shop in Helena that went out of business and could never get rid of that game from their shelves. The day after they went out of business, they threw the three copies they had in the dumpster because they didn't want to put it into storage. I pulled them out of the dumpster, looked at the figs and read the rules.
The next day I put them all back right where I found them.
Good luck to the people trying to revive this game.
(though I will say that I did like the Shard models, those were pretty cool)

IIRC Vor's problem was FASA went belly up soon after the game was launched leaving it orphaned.
I have a copy and it seemed quite playable, it's an action point-based skirmish game set in a dimensional vortex where everyone fights everyone for anything while waiting for their worlds to be eaten by the malestrom.
The most interesting bit was the build-your-own army system. Of course Aetherverse tried that too and lasted about as long as Vor...

I've got all the army books, as well as a bunch of shard and growlers, but I never was into the fluff and factions. I just liked the fact that it was D10 and not IGO UGO. Everybody I spoke with who played it said it was a solid system. My plans were to port over my 40K collection to the Vor system as soon as the highly anticipated custom army rules were released (I've got a pic of the Paul Bonner cover art for the book somewhere), but then they went belly up.

I've got all the faction books for the hell of it, and played a few times. Was ok, mostly let me rock out some NeoSoviet madness. Actually wouldn't mind having some shard to paint up now, use them as Eldar or tizz demons or something.

I wonder if he has any preorders to justify the game development work. Because resurrecting a failed franchise is good business. Not. Which is why Dark Eldar and Squats are going to stay dead. Still, I also wonder how many people voted "YES, do it!" simply because they want new stuff in the bargain bins a year from now... On a more serious note, if the vast majority of the factions are non-human, this might not be a total disaster. But I doubt it.

Didn't FASA go belly up _because_ of VOR?
The NeoSovs were pretty nifty. Maybe that highly-customizable core rules set is the advantage that the new release will be trying to sell. The boat has sailed on so much of their old background, and most of the minis were quite silly. But a system that encourages the use of your whole mini collection (not just the VOR stuff) and yet isn't generic- that would be worth buying. It might make it harder to sell their own minis if they're still pants, but the books could actually pay for themselves.

Not exactly, but it drove Ral Partha into bancruptcy (then, part of FASA) and cost FASA quite some money.

Actually they are going to get a new codex and miniatures, albeit not this year.

Fasa was already heading into trouble at the time. Bills went to Partha, money went to FASA. Zocchi Distributing and FASA buy Partha, then FASA buys zocci's half by promising to ship FASA and Partha product, never happens. Zocci goes under. Partha goes under having no income and all the bills. Fasa goes under.....and Wizkids emerges like some phoenix.
Zocci loses, Partha loses, the son of the owner of Fasa wins. Hmm, probably just coincidence.
Only good thing was the ex-employees of Partha buying up the old molds, working their tails off, and launching Iron Wind Metals.

That's the story I heard too. So sketchy. IIRC Skuzzy's had to keep quiet about anything Vor related until now too due to some heavy duty legal restraints.

Yeah, A little something called Earthdawn I believe in the RPG catagory had something to do with FASA's troubles as well.
VOR didnt kill them, but was rather the final bullet that sent them over. Alot of bad decisions back then....

The art in the books was good, but the rules were bad. Too slow... way too slow. They've gotta completely ditch them if they want to have "uber huge battles".

True, but VOR was a backed by a large company (at least for the initial roll out) and Aetherverse was manly a one-man self produced/published game. The later has a very hard time breaking into the market with little to no backing.

I only played a few games, I have no idea where my rules went. I remember it being fairly decent though and I picked up quite a few models. They were cheaper and cast in a fairly good quality. I had a blast painting up guys I think were called "Junkers" (?). Huge blast shields with black and yellow hazard markings? Yeah, can't go wrong with that. I still have the models and always kind of hoped I could work them into my guard army somehow. Maybe someday...

junkers were from Void, so you're probably thinking about the wrong game.
I always hear people talking poorly about Vor, but what about Crucible? I know it came out around the same time and had some good models (and some horrible ones), but it never took off. It's a shame because I never hear anyone talking about it and always wondered what the deal was with it.

Had a great conversation with the Scuzz man Friday afternoon. Things are definately moving forward!
Now onto to some other news....
1. The new Vor will be Vor: The Maelstrom Version 2.0
2. The new version will take place 10 years in the future from the last known event that took place in the old game.
3. The complete customize your own force book will be out 1 month after launch or sooner!
4. If all goes according to plan the new box set will include the new rule book, dice, templates, fold out map, 4 pieces of new terrain, 2 for each faction. The miniatures included in the box set will be the Golems and an entirely new race of miniatures code named 'Cold Fusion' atm.
5. At the games lauch..
date still YTBD there will also be the first new official source book of the two factions that were inlcuded in the new box set. (Yep. it would seem that minds are on the same wavelength when another poster posted about combining 2 rival factions into one source book.)
Plus a nice new host of brand new miniatures!
Also, starter army deals packs for each faction. Price and mini #'s YTBD.
now, the bad news...
After talking with Scuzzy and getting the low down on some legal issues. We can not use any of the old artwork in any way shape or form. FASA which is stilll holding a corporate identity has all the publishing rights to the artwork, BUT the good news is that it means all NEW artwork and gives us a BIG incentive and drive to make Vor 2.0 even bigger and better than the original game.
So, all in all this means a brand new look for Vor:The Maestrom Version 2.0. A bigger and better core rule book, and some awesome new miniatures plus lots more!
As things move forward and progress...once it is official..you will hear it first right here on the IWM boards. That is a promise!
Until Next Time..Best!,

They should have just went forward and called it something different.
Too much bad blood out there over the old game. Best thing the old game had going for it was " Growlers."
Worst thing was the FASA debacal. The game was meh, but the concept needed alot of tweaking. All in all, it was just another of countless numbers of might have beens.

The game was flawless by comparison to other games, namely 40k. The points based action/movement system was ideal and the only thing I ever felt was wrong were:
A) Shard to powerful and
B) It ended to quickly.
Thank god, SOMEBODY had the foresight to stay away from Wizkids! I think Skuzzy should be given a ton of credit for that alone!
