That's because back in the day it was made up of lame-wads like Ant-Man and Wasp.
New Avengers is all the A-Listers like Spider-Man and Wolverine now.

I cant stand having spider-man and wolverine on the avengers!
And the whole Uncanny Avengers thing?
Let's get the two most over exposed groups and over overexpose them!

Well I don't know what's up with Uncanny Avengers because I haven't even finished AvX yet and the aforementioned rock accommodations but yes I like the way the Avengers are now compared to before. Yes those two guys are over exposed by I like reading about their adventures on a team like the Avengers. The Avengers brand has completely replaced X-Men as their top selling titles so I think most people agree with my sentiment. I'm pretty sure you're just being contradictory again anyway Alpharius.

Im with you Alpharius. I love both Snikt! and Spidey. But Ive read WAY too much of them. I cant remember that last time I was excited for a Wolverine comic since the original run of Origins. I like seeing some lesser known but still cool characters, psylocke, havok, etc. Thats why I loved exiles so much. So much opportunity in that book.

Avengers has those folks too but I'll always be a bigger fan of Spider-Man than Mockingbird. On the hand I've become a fan of characters I'd never really read before like Luke Cage, Ms. Marvel and, I never thought I'd see the day, Hawkeye.

Preview for next week has a mention of someone "catching the 3:15 train to Bludhaven", which made me do a bit of a fanboy cheer.

Picked up the first issue of Uncanny Avengers... Pretty good start to the series, I'm not quite sold on Avengers and X-Men cavorting, but we'll see..
Also picked up Locke and Key: Clockworks, the 5th collection of the series... My parents met Joe Hill (Stephen King's son) at a book signing or high school idk... I was at college, and bought the first three collections.. I've picked up 4 and now 5 since then, it's a good series... will collect till the end lol.

Yep, it's the old WB. And yeah they did have Smallville.
They've moved what's jokingly called "Men's Night" to Wednesdays now, with Arrow at 8pm and Supernatural at 9.

Well that is definitely on my to watch list now then. Especially after the let down that was American Horror Story.
But still I've got an extra 5 burning a hole in monthly pocket. What can you guys recommend me? And Im looking for superhero stuff. Historically I go marvel for that but Ive been disappointed in the past few years. And I already read Spawn so.
Is it to much to ask for 5 issues I should try and go from there?

After a few dissapointing issues, Batman reached the Court of Owls plotline I heard so much about. And so far, it's pretty awesome. I just love it when Damien takes a dump on the other Robins. Edit: My mistake. The German Batman series started with Detective Comics, nut now switched to Batman.

I love the Micronauts (first series!) - Michael Golden stuff back in the day was great.
And Marvel did really well with another 'toy' series back in the late 70's/early 80's - ROM!
Now we're back in the Microverse with, of all things, SCARLET SPIDER and VENOM, and CARNAGE is along for the ride too.
Carnage?
I'm not sure how Carnage was ever seen as a 'good idea' - I product of his times, I guess.
But how the hell is he still around?

I agree that Carnage is pure 90s. In fact, Carnage is probably "distilled 90s." But I love the character. He's so fething creepy. He's scarier than Venom because he has absolutely zero anti-hero potential. That said, I'm still waiting for an event, miniseries, etc., that can serve as an entry point into the spider-books.

You may be given that opportunity soon with the impending release of SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN - or somesuch?
Basically, there's going to be a big 'game changer' (yeah, another one of those) with ASM #700, which will be so awesome that it will necessitate the rebooting of the franchise back to another #1 issue.
And SPIDER-MAN might not actually be 'Peter Parker' at this point.
Also, they should just space Carnage already!
Or it may still be him, only with a radically changes world view?
Or... something?

I'll probably pick up the first few different Marvel Now issues to get a feel for the line as a whole, but in the end I'll probably just stick with Iron Man and Uncanny Avengers... We'll see..
As to the question of preferred comic way to read comics, for me... it all depends on when I get into it, what's available, etc...
There are 4 series that I read where I came in at odd points.
Batman (came in at #12). To get caught up, I bought the hard back collection of the Court of Owls story arc. This was the first 6 comics, instead of finding 7 through 11, I'm waiting until the next collection comes out. But #s 12, 0, and 13 (the three most recent releases) are all in your standard comic book form, and will continue until I decide to stop.
Ultimate Comics Spider Man (came in at like #11 or 12). I bought the first three in a hard back collection, managed to buy 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 in the store, and 5&6 through ebay... Since then, I've bought everything else in serial release.
Invincible started off in the middle of the series with a trade paperback, and from there I bought everything I could from the end of that paperback to current, and then I proceeded to get standard serial release.
Locke & Key will only ever be collected in a hardback, because that's how the series came to me, and I'm a bit of a stickler, also I feel that L&K lends itself more towards reading like 6 issues at once rather than reading the serial release. Though this does remind me, if someone has a Locke & Key 2 or 3 in hard cover, I'm looking for one of those in hardcover. I have it in trade paperback, but would like my collection to be as uniform as possible lol...

Yes. It's quite confusing. DC and Marvel are both published by the German publisher Panini. They usually put two American issues in one book, sometimes combining two stories. In the German edition of Superman we get Action Comics and Supergirl, while Justice League is paired with Teen Titans. Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Batgirl, Batwoman, Aquamanand others are released in TPBs right from the start. Batman & Robin is also published as a trade. Then there are two monthly Batman books. Batman: The Dark Knight contains one issue of TDK and Nightwing (which I found to be surprisingly boring so far) while the one only called Batman started out with Detective Comics for the first 4 books but now switched to the American Batman issues, starting with the Court of the Owls. Which is awesome, so far.
Ensis Ferrae wrote:This last comment brings up an interesting question for me. What medium of comic book do you guys prefer? I mean of course, hardback, trade paper, omnibus, and standard serial release.
Definetly trades. It's much for fun to read then single issues and hardcovers are usually too pricy. And as I said above, there's the problem with two stories coming in one standard release, one of which you might not be interested in. My brother and I are now quitting Superman, because we're not interested in Supergirl.
Alpharius wrote:Now we're back in the Microverse with, of all things, SCARLET SPIDER and VENOM, and CARNAGE is along for the ride too.
I like the new Venom, happy that Kaine is back and look forward to the crossover.
Alpharius wrote:Also, they should just space Carnage already!
I think they did that. Isn't that what he's coming back from right now?
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm curious about Superior Spider-Man. After the abyssmal BND stories Slott redeemed himself in my eyes with Spider-Island. Worried about the rumours that it's no longer Peter under the mask. Considering what Marvel is trying to do with the relaunch, it doesn't sound like a very good idea. Haven't heard of Stegman until now either. My favourite Spidey artists are Ramos and Romita Jr.
