Subject: Turning in 4th Edition Rulebook for $10 Store Credit - Auburn, WA

Rumor is you can turn in the 4th Edition rulebook for store credit at the Auburn, WA GW store. Can anyone confirm?
If yes, is this just a store-by-store thing, or are all GW stores participating?
Thanks - Mez
UPDATE: Okay, called the Auburn "Supermall" location. They are giving a $10 credit toward 5th edition when you turn in your 4th edition rulebook (the big one only, the BFM mini rulebook doesn't count). This only applies only when you pre-order the book and only on July 11th and 12th. This is a store-by-store promotion, so your local store may not participate (it is up to the store manager). Hope that helps! Mez
UPDATE 2 = Whoops, looks like this was just an individual store decision. GW was considering this promotion as a whole, but decided not to pursue in the end. Hope that I didn't ruin anyone's chances for this offer in Auburn.
Thanks - Mez

News to me. How much store credit? A dollar? Seriously, I suppose GW could have a 'trade in your 4th Ed rulebook for $5 off your 5th ed rulebook' promotion, it would boost interest in 5th Ed, but I really think the new rulebook will sell like hotcakes regardless...
And anyway, I'll probably keeping my old book for the hobby pages and photos.

And probably safe to say that most of the FOW players then went and bought the full size rulebook anyway? You take the small one to the game and keep the big one at home for reference.....
I would suggest that this would have had little impact on their book sales.
It's all about Customer service, people.
GW could definitely take a leaf out of Battlefronts book? (pardon the pun).

You live in WA, yet you ask those of us who don't live in your state, and some of us don't live in your country. Why did you post this here and not do as the Dakkaite before me mentioned and just the call the darn GW store itself and ask them?

Or 7th edition considering GW is releasing a new rule book for both fantasy and 40k every 4 years now, JJ mentioned this little fun bit at the Toronto Gamesday.
Im starting to wonder what GWs return policy is, if its unlimited time and exchange only then that would be perfect because every 4 years you would just walk into a GW and switch up your rulebook, now if you could only do it with the models and armies they make useless.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

Well, wait until the next, next edition; they'll be useful again.

Well, they were closed when I heard this rumor and wasn't sure if this applied to all stores. I'll call them when they open this morning and let everyone know what I find out....

That was a good deal. Took that book to Kinko's and got it spiral-bound and clear-covered within an hour of getting it. Then I picked up Festung Europa, and printed out the update to Stars and Bars. Then I found out that Late War was being released in a series of books at $25USD a pop. Stopped right there. Enjoy the new mini-rulebook and use the scenarios from the old one. BF stopped me dead in my tracks and lost me, but I still enjoy breaking out the game on a rainy day.

Well....
I live in WA, live near that area, and will ask various stores (including the Seattle Battle Bunker) if they are participating.
So, yea, it's pretty valid.

Seriously, GW's math has always been weird. New rule book every 4 years, but at the same time they want to provide full support to an army every 5 years; with those numbers a couple armies will always be passed over each edition.

If memory serves me correctly, I remember before Battle for Skull Pass came out & if you bought the previous box set there was a way to get the new edition rule book for free or @ a discount.(WOW GW doing something that sounds fair) Sorry I don't play fantasy so I didn't pay that much attention. But I do remember GW was selling the last edition box set online up until right before Battle for Skull Pass came out. Last time I looked @ the GW web-site I didn't find Battle for Mccragge available & that was a few days ago.

Hi guys
No GW Hobby Center in the US is running a promotion like this. Not even the Auburn store. I can only assume that there has been a mix-up in communication as $10 is the deposit that is typically taken in our Hobby Centers for a pre-order.
Perhaps rather than hearing "Take a $10 deposit with each pre-order for the 5th Edition Rulebook. No there won't be an exchange program for 4th Edition Rulebooks" the staff member may have heard "When someone pre-orders a 5th Edition Rulebook they get $10 off if they bring in their 4th Edition Rulebook as part of an exchange program". Believe me when I say stranger things have been misheard ; )
So once again, no US GW Hobby Center is running an "Exchange for Store Credit" program. Many stores will, however, have some very cool Launch parties on the weekend of release. If your local store is not within a mall, they may even be having a Midnight Release Party.
Cheers
