Sorry Dakkaites, I'm going repeat the age-old question of "which faction should I choose?". All opinions are appreciated (including "you suck").

Here are my criteria:
1. Silly and fun
2. Does not need to be competitive
3. The bigger the chance of self-annihilation, the better

I'm leaning strongly towards Orks, but I'm also strangely drawn to an all-Aspect Warrior Eldar force. Sisters of Battle and Grey Knights are also in the running. And the Great Unclean One Forge World model is awesome. Ok really, I've only ruled out one faction (sorry Tau fans).

Ideas are appreciated--I'm new to 40k so the slate is blank.

Given your criteria, Orks are the only choice.

Orks really aren't silly anymore, but damn are they funny.

Orks are the only race whose players actually hope to see "vehicle wrecked" results when their opponent is shooting. Enough said.

Actually, the Tau don't fit any of the categories you've listed above. If you are finding that it is easy to pwn the Tau players that you play than they have to be (IMHO) deaf, blind and stupid. Tau is a fairly easy army to play and with as many options as we have it's only the players fault if they suck.

Play Orks and make sure you have a few trukks, a weirdboy, a big mek w/ shokk attack gun, and maybe some grots.

You'll have the hilarious ramshackle rule, the funny weirdboy powers, the slightly unreliable shock attack gun rolls, and of course you can use grots as a screen (4+ cover save) AND use them to take out landmines!

Basically Orks have a lot of good units that also have some "fun" rules.

I soooo wish we had some plastic grots.

You better believe I would be running those in my army.

You pretty much just described Orks, so quit wasting time and go out and buy yourself a couple of Battleforces and a Shokk Attack Gun!

Mod mode off:
Aeddon I think you just had an open mouth, insert foot moment (welcome, I'll save you a seat at the next meeting). He's not referencing anything about the tau that I can see except that he's ruled them out. Lets not spin off sidewise on the Tau.
Mod mode off:

And Groz you suck! Except for Kroot mercs, Orks sound like the fungi to beat in this contest.

180 Orks, except use WHFB Orc models, rank them up and use movement trays. And don't bother shooting because that'd be cheating.

1500 pts:
HQ:
Naked Warboss @ 60 pts

Elite:
10 Kommandos @ 100 pts
10 Kommandos @ 100 pts
10 Kommandos @ 100 pts
Troops:
30 Slugga Boyz, Nob @ 190 pts
30 Slugga Boyz, Nob @ 190 pts
30 Slugga Boyz, Nob @ 190 pts
30 Slugga Boyz, Nob @ 190 pts
30 Slugga Boyz, Nob @ 190 pts
30 Slugga Boyz, Nob @ 190 pts

Thats 211 models. Use the Kommandos as Empire style detachments or have them try to tie up your opponent's big guns as fast as possible while the rest of the army marches.

I read the trukk rules, laughed out loud, and bought the Ork book.

I will choose my forces based on the chance of self destruction while simultaneously maximizing the number of squigs and grots. I may go for an all gretchin troop list, though that prices out a bit high. It could be worth it, though.

I think you might have picked orks before you started playing but I'm gonna say go with CSM. Take Fabius Bile and get enhanced marines. They can kill themselves before the game even begins. Take a bunch of Chaos Dreadnoughts and load them down with weapons. They are sure to be taking shots are your team a lot of the time. But if you want 'fun' mishaps go with Orks. You suck.

Dead before battle does sound promising. And units that fire at my own guys are even better...I need to read the book. Also I saw some insane pics of a FW Nurgle Dreadnought in the Rumours bin. Thanks, I'll check into this too.

And the Shock Attack Gun looks awesome! If I wasn't so busy with my own factions crap I'd paint those guys up for fun.
