New video for Fallout 3 posted on their website: http://fallout.bethsoft.com/

Looks pretty awesome. Can't wait. The collector's edition comes with all sorts of nice goodies too. Apparently there's many possible endings (100s of combinations according to one report) depending on things done in the game.

I'm still a bit wary of the new "real-time" combat system. But this does looks promising.

I don't buy games much anymore, but Ive been looking forward to getting this one for some time. I know the real time is going to be new for fans, like myself, but I think they can pull it off if they stick, and stick hard, to the imagery and "look and feel" of fallout.

Combat is either real time like a FPS, or you can hold a trigger to put it into a psuedo turn based mode. You select different actions and body parts to target and it does all the calculations in case you don't want it to be a twitch game.

Yah, I saw the game footage. I can see how people expecting a FPS or even an Oblivion style real-time RPG may be dissapointed, but I think it looks playable if not innovative. It appears from what I saw that you use your action points and the game executes the actions you queued, and sort of goes into a third person perspective for you to view the action. It appears though that during these phases you can still be hurt and I suppose suffer character death, which is the only thing that might be frustrating.

Looks like a fun game, yes, but a Fallout game? Still not convinced. It's still Oblivion w/Guns until they can show that it really is a Fallout game, and not a twitch-gamers TC of Oblivion.

I loved Fallout Tactics, but the Vid does leave me a little nervous. Pre-order has been in for months now so will see....

I feel sorry for the Aussies, as rumors are they will miss out on Fallout 3 because the of the censorship rating

I know there has been some conjecture over Fallout's release date, but based on Amazon it looks as if it's October 7th. I really hope this is accurate, as I booked two weeks worth of holiday off following this day! I love the look of the game. I'm sure it will be a treat to play, and hope it satisfies all the disgruntled Fallout fans (I missed the games the first time around). It looks as if the developers have stayed relatively faithful to the original work, but I am approaching it is an improvement to the Oblivion engine, which I thought produced one of the finest games of recent years.

An obvious gamble by Bethseda, but as a Fallout outsider I'll be interested to see what you hardcore types think when it's finally released.

I really should be spending my time more constructively.

Yup! Banned due to drug use. We had another game banned because the objective was to grafitti walls, and sports game where people in your team could take steroids. They made 'em change GTA4 to keep a fixed camera during the sex scenes (ie. so you can see the car, and that's it).

But blood, guts and violence? That's cool! Plenty more of that.

Guess we'll just get it from a different country. Good thing the Aussie dollar is so good against the US one. I can probably get it for a cheaper price than it would have been here.

Well they just ruined the game right there. Any time a game has gone from a turn based "you can put some thought into your moves" system and then turned it into either a "Get um', that's the plan" system or a "Diablo" click fest, it has sucked and sucks a lot. If they are moving away from the system that kept the game fun and interesting (the one where you worked with action points, designed your characters and got to make actual real decisions in fights) then I doubt its going to end up being good.

We'll see though.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

There was a joke somewhere in f2 about how if you can't see the kids you must be playing the European version or something. They took all the child models out of the Euro release because you could theoretically spend hours just hitting children in the groin with a super sledge, or something. I mean, you got punished and all in game, right? Bounty hunters, general dislike... That's all funny. We used to laugh about how the Europeans would have to settle with hitting their own kids in the groin, which would just raise more problems.

Now that Australia isn't going to get it, I'm just going to have to aim at something else... That pack of lost Censorship Board members looks good... Aim... Groin, 95%. Click!

This will be released in Australia now, by the way. They resolved the drugs issue by stopping the drugs look like crack pipes.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I have been stoked about this game for months now. Years if you count the huge amount of waiting that the promises brought on. I dont really play many video games anymore, but this game is a must buy for me.

As an extension of the really old game "Wasteland", I expect the humor to be there in spades. How the game functions according to FPS or otherwise is of little concern as long as the meat and potatoes of humor is there.

The fabulous eye candy doesn't hurt either...

Don't ingg care. Someone ing advance it for me and ship it to ing Australia. No is going to censor unicorns your mother, okay?

All I wanted to do was see the junkies REALLY running around flapping their arms, and not be in Canberra at the same time. Fallout 3 has been too many years coming. I got overexcited about Half-Life 2 and that turned out to be a crock. Got to calm down... can't let the junkies get to me...

LOL,

I heard that they are removing the humour easter eggs (monty python, douglas adams etc references) from the game. The hard line fallout humour is "supposed" to be carried over by Bethseda...I have my doubts as to it being the "funny intriguing" game of old though.

Magnificent engine, my friend, with magnificent potential. HL2 had as much atmosphere as a smelly blanket, and basically set a stage for everything that came after it. Or Farcry, but I don't think anyone ever thought that was a game. Ravenholm was years too late to be threatening. The gravity gun saved it from the that was 'Steam'. The new gameplay system in Fallout doesn't threaten me - it took many years, but I got over the F1/F2 interface a good few years ago. It's still easily in my top 5 games of all time, but if Bethesda can't give this game some atmosphere I'd be surprised.
The theme is hard to miss, and knowing Bethesda the game is going to be a lot more serious than Black Isle's interpretation. Fallout had a lot deeper cult references than Monty Python and Dougie Adams, and if the obvious ones are out than the rest are probably out too. Not that we can't still hope for a post-apocalyptic South Park quote... actually, yeah. Abandon hope.

I pre ordered the collectors edition about a month ago. I believe it may be the first "collector" edition with feelies that I've ever purchased ( The Ultima series doesnt count, every box was a "collector" box).

Whoa, put the brakes on there....they actually did produce a seperate edition for Ultima IX Ascension, and naturally I bought it. That was bad memory best left buried there.
