Recently started stripping my marines from 3rd ed and repainting them, just taking a break from my orks for now, and painting is half the fun! Anyway I was given a land raider crusader for my birthday, and I just dont know how to fit this fantastic model into my army. My ideal use would be to plop my 5 assault termies (obviously I play for fun more than to dominate every fight heh) and mabye a chaplain into it and cram it down my opponents throat, but I dont really have any support meelee except for 10 assault marines with backpacks to back it up. Assuming vanilla marines, is there a good way to split this up, or is it either/or assaulty build or shooty build. I play for fun, but dont like to lose all the time either.

Is there a good way to use this in 5th edition, possibly not even loading it with termies just having them port in as I have been, and use it to intimidate my enemy?

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

I use my landraider in my chaos force in the way you are describing, except it's nurgle terminators and Typhus. It works pretty well. Most things just can't hurt the land raider, and it's not bad support once the squad gets stuck in, especially against hordes. It's hard to get wrong!

If you have assault termies, its far and away the best delivery system. DSing can go wrong, crusaders will go where you point and are insanely hard to kill!

If you back them up with assault marines, make sure they can take out different things: i.e. if your termies have lightning claws, make sure your assault squad has anti-tank stuff, if your termies have TH/SS, your assault squad should go anti-infantry.

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

And lock any squad up with melta in it in HTH quickly. A melta weapon will make short work of the Land Raider

Stay away from the CC 'Fex, unless you are unloading your assault terminators into it, and are confident of winning!

One thing I like about thunder hammers, they really screw with the big boys. Fighting a cc fex? It goes last next round if it survives. Avatar goes last, c-tan, wraithlord, demon princes. Also helpful to shake vehicles.

If you're running a Crusader for a Terminator Delivery System, don't stop at 5 Terminators - otherwise you might as well be running a standard LR. Pump the unit up to the full 8 you can carry. You'll be happier in assault because of it.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Use your LR for objective contesting. Move that bad boy up and push troops off the objective and park on it. Even powerists have a tough time with the LR. 4+ to hit a moving LR, 6 to glance it.

Remember 66% of the missions in 5th are objective based.

I find it highly amusing that claiming objectives with vehicles in this edition will not involve parking on them, but rather doing donuts around them so that your tanks are harder to hit. The image of a unit of infantry trying desperately to plant stick-bombs on a Rhino pulling bootlegger turns around a bunker is pretty funny.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

You know it. I faced 3 BT LRC's with blessed hulls yesterday. It was a bitch getting rid of them with my Eldar and winning a Sieze Ground mission.

So what did you use to get rid of them?

Haywires, bright lances...?

My avatar took one down with his Whailing Doom. My 3 wraithlords crushed another in HtH and the third was shaken and weapon destroyed to pieces.

Wait...you got into CC with 3 Wraithlords against a LR in a 3 LR army?

How's that happen! lol

You measure the distance from starting point to ending point in a straight line, not 'total distance moved in inches', to figure out how hard it is to hit a vehicle in hand to hand. That rule was put into place just for this type of situation. You can't do donuts and expect to be hit on a 6+

Well actually if you run a skimmer army, you can tank shock from objective to objective in loot missions...get a 4+ cover save AND get hit on 6+ in CC.

It's quite amusing till you get shot down.

Then, not so funny.

They were LRC's packed with Black Templars. They had to get close in order to unload their, soon to be dead, troops. I played against Russ Bartmuss. Russ is a regulat at Aero and a pretty good player, not a noob.

You don't measure inches at all. A vehicle simply declares if it is sitting stll, moving at Combat Speed, Cruising Speed, or Flat Out.

That's exactly what I did last game (and didn't even get shot down). I lost all my troops early and was able to keep switching my Wave Serpent / Fire Prism back and forth between two objectives. Saved my butt and got me a draw....
