Ok, now that you have seen some of the models for the force, here is the deal. My new log will be a personal project to complete a renegade space marine battle company. There will be a rather large apocalypse battle at one of my local stores and I want to field the battle company data sheet. The prospects of the new space marine codex, drop pods, and a few other things have lured me back to space marines. Now I as you all may know, im a die hard chaos player, so, a rengade chapter it must be.

Now here is my question to you all.

What chapter should my renegade battle company be from? Im open to anything thats not red and it must be a regular codex company. i.e 6 tactical, 2 assault and 2 devestators.

I really do need some help as I simply cant make up my mind. Im drawn to so many cool chapters but since this is a rengade company..

Why don't you choose one of the Badab War traitor legions?

IIRC, when Lufgt Huron and the Astral Claws rebelled and became the Red Corsairs, they took three other chapters with them - Mantis Warriors, Executioners & Lamenters.

After the war, these three chapters were forgiven and told to go on a crusade, but it's quite possible that elements could have followed the Red Corsairs into the Maelstrom.

So, you'd have a basically loyalist Marine company, but one that looks slightly chaossy....

Badab War - http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/The_Badab_War

Lamenters (yellow) - http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Lamenters

Mantis Warriors (green) - http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Mantis_Warriors

Executioners (crazy crazy blue) - http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Executioners

You should definitely do the Mantis Warriors following ArbitorIan's fluff idea. I would even model some/many/half? your marines with standard SM breastplates and have the aquila scrapped at or gouged off to show their defiance to the Emperor. i.e. Less "rar! chaos marks and mutations!!" and more "hey, you know what emperor? eff you!". That's what I think when I think renegades. Opinions may vary.

Thanks for the ideas guys!

Mantis warriors are out since doghouse has done them to a very high standard. The lamarters look good since they are yellow but the executionars look kick butt with that funky blue.

Anyone else have some ideas? It will be awhile till I paint them anyways as im still in the construction phase.

EXCELLENT idea blargag!

So I said this on my warseer log, im going to paint 5 of the best ideas as samples then pic out of those. Mortifactors are now on the list with the lamanters. So I need 3 more ideas.

I'd say a variant of Word Bearers as they are the original Chaos Chaplain types.

Also perhaps one of the Cursed Founding chapters, maybe Flame Falcons?

Why not a random mixture of various loyal chapters, representing not a single army going bad, but the faithless few from all of them.

Ultramarines are a great choice, along with any of the others who claim to never have had anyone turn to Chaos (i.e. Grey Knights or Black Templars). As they're pretty high-and-mighty, so it'd be good to take them down a peg or two.

Otherwise I'd suggest one of the lesser First Founding Chapters, like Imperial Fists.

This would definitly work, sounds best out of all the ideas i see here no offence to the other people ofcourse, all chapters would look great, just think this idea is gd

Im pretty open to the idea of various chapters as that seems to be a popular idea. The one thing, ho could I tie all the units together? This army will be a literal marine battle company. It will always be played as the data sheet for it as I only lan to play it at select apocalypse games.

Maybe black helmets? or an arm/shoulder a certian color?

Iwould paint the bodies as different chapters and then like you said the arms a different color, preferably a balck color for some reason, think it probably is because black goes with almost all colors. unlike green, i think this would be hard to mix with other colors, either way on a black arm also maybe you should make a certain insignia for the renegade army chapter thing. that they all have as an icon. good luck with whatever you choose you seem like a decent operson so most the things you will choose will probably look good

You could do Soul Drinkers too.

Great idea for the bionic eyes. I think all vet sgts will have one.

-----------

Back on this again... but I need input on 2 things before I seriously start the log.

First, what color should the shoulder pad trim be on the black arm/pad? Im thinking it should just stay the color of the other pad, i.e. these guys would have a gold trim on the black.

Second, im thinking that each marine before battle has to deface thier chapter badge. Each squad could do it diffrent ways, some scratching part of it off, others using blood to paint over part of it kinda like the corsairs. Now my question is, does this sound good? and if so, im stuck on how to deface these guys. Im leaning toward scratching over "blood" as there is alot of red on purity seals and eyes.

Keep in mind these are WIP and still need weathering and chipped paint. I see the whole chipped paint thing as perfect to tie in the whole army as well as the black helmets and right arm/pad.

Oh, the company is going to be a mixed force with each squad being a diffrent chapter.
Current standing:

Tactical Squads
Ultramarines (blue)
Raptor Legion (camoish green)
Lamenters (yellow)
Soul Drinkers (purple)(chaos recruits, not original chapter)
Space Sharks (grey)
Need idea

Assault Squads
Mortifactors (bone and black)
Howling Griffons (red and yellow quartered)

Devestator Squads
Mentor Legion (dark geen and white)
Silver Skulls (silver)

Im going to go with the basic red chaos star over the chapter badge.

Simple and to the point.

Anyone have any ideas for the chaos symbol that will go on the left shoulder pad? Im leaning towards space in general. You know, black background as it is now with a ton of tiny stars and such. To random? or just right? let me know!

Real life has been kicking my rear end all over the place... Literally. Ive just not finished all my work and errands for the day and its 11pm..

Anyhoo.. I notice I never updated the log here with the command stuff. So its on top of the most recent update. Right below this.

As for whos in command...
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Claws_of_Lorek

Im going to paint the black shoulder pad in the claws of lorek style. Just the reversed astral claw scheme. The command squad will be the select few marines that have attained a higher rank within the claws organazation, hence, will have the normal claws paint scheme except the right shoulder pad will still show the original chapter and will be super defaced. possibly hanging skin, chains with fingers, that sort of stuff. I want the command squad to really stand out since there will already be 100 marines blurring it all together.

The commander of the company wont be Lorek but I do have a plan for him in the future. All im gonna say is, "lords of chaos" data sheet, counts as Abby.
-------------------
Still WIP but the bases are started, there wil be grass and such inbetween the cracks of tile. Models still need final details and the weathering is only half done, just chipped paint right now. Oh and backpacks need a wash or 2.

Thanks thething for the kind words! I considered blending the gold so its closer to the silver but since the other chapters will have a completly diffrent color trim on each shoulder pad, I decided against it. But since you recommend it,ill try it out

I plan to have the company champion as a fallen black templar. The only on templar in the company too so he has to be tough.

------------------

I put this in the log on warseer but forgot to put it here, so here it is:
Goals:
All plastic body army
Minimal conversions
Minimal GS on certain models only.
Average table top quality paint job.
Fluffy
Most of all - Completed by November 1st

Ok so the goals are pretty straight foward. It shouldnt be hard to accomplish the all plastic body army as its a ton of marines. There will be the odd metal bitz but thats just so each marine is diffrent, which is gonna get hard with the 112 marines there will be in the end. I want to keep all the conversions easy and straight foward, I want to be able to assemble at least 5 guys a night. Same minimal work with the GS since again, I wont have time to spend on getting fancy. Once again, same reason for the paint job. Im not trying to win any awards at the event, I just want a fully painted force to stomp some loyalist scum.

Now fluffy, thats kinda hard to explain. Basically I see each squad as a perfect picture image of thier parent chapters traits. Example of the ultra marines having a flamer and missle launcher along with the vet sgt "posing". Also, it will be a normal battle company using the battle company datasheet for apocalypse. 6 tactical squads, 2 assault and 2 devestator with a 10 man command squad, commander and chappy for good measure. So far paint jobs are as follows:

Command Squad
Claws of Lorek Recruits along with real members and 1 other chapter marine. (this will make more sense when you see the squad completed)

Tactical Squads
Ultramarines
Lamenters
Raptors (probably the old school paint scheme, not the olive green and gills)
Soul Drinkers
Space Sharks
(still undecided, open to ideas)
Assault
Howling Griffons (maybe something else, im open to ideas)
Mortifactors

Devestator
Mentor Legion
Silver Skulls

Some random Fluff. Note im no author and I have horrible grammer, if you havent already noticed. Oh and I dont spell check. yes I know its easy but eh.

Homeworld:
Jadajean along with a large fleet of strike cruisers and 3 battle barges.

Recruitment:
The southern continent is used to train new recruits from other chapters as well as recruit new claws of lorek using thier own geneseed.

The Claws of Lorek have a very interesting way of judging those who are worthy to join thier renegade chapter. One of the biggest resources the Claws look for are slaves, strong and battle hardened ones. This valuable resource is not for sacrafice, or some bizarre reason, but simply used as enemy stock. On the Claws of Lorek homeworld of Jadajean, the entire southeren continent has been turned into a giant restockable battle ground. Fresh slaves are dropped off all over the continent weekly, and left to scavange the weaponry that has been left all amongst the ruins that spread the length and width of the continent. Who built and then destroyed this once massive city are unknown as whatever happened took place thousands of years earlier.

Rengade Space Marines, no matter what chapter they have come from, must take part in what is known as "the final test". It consists of squad sized groups of marines being dropped off randomly across the continent and left there for 1 terran year to survive. Normaly all the marines in each squad are from the same chapter, and gathered over a long period of time so they kill the slave stock and not each other. During this time they are watched and judged by hidden outposts that the Claw masters can watch from.

If the marines survive the year, they are able to join the rengade chapter. They are required to wear thier old chapter colors and badges except for thier power plant, left shoulder guard and arm along with the helmet, which are in the normal Claws of Lorek scheme. They almost never gain a rank higher then battle brother as they have, what the Claws consider, defunct geneseed. Those inplanted with Lorek's own geneseed are generally allowed advancement into the chapters higher levels.

If a slave manages to kill a marine, for whatever reason, they are usually taken directly for hypno-indoctronation so they may join the Claws of Lorek, using Lorek's own geneseed. Once they become a true battle brother they are taken to join a command squad overseeing marines from other chapters. Thus, the Claws remain masters over the other marines, most of the time that is.

---------------------------
Small update:

Sgts banner tommorow as im stuck on how to complete it. Right now the left side is half the ultra symbol, the other half is the Claws pattern. It looks good but kinda plain.

These are done as much as im gonna do for now. This is the quality im going for even with the small messups and such. My main goal is just to finish all 112 marines plus friends before the 1st of november.

Well, actually, I am going to fix the bases. Im gonna go that when the squad is done.

As always, feedback, good or bad, helps keep me motivated on this project.
