Hello all. I'm working on my wraithguard list from 4th addition working in 5th. Any advice would be nice.

Here is the list:

HQ
2 Farseers with Spirit Stones, Guide, Fortune. (250 pts)

Troops
10 X Wraithguard & Spiritseer (conceal) 399 Points
10 X Wraithguard & Spiritseer (conceal) 399 Points

Heavy Support

3 X War Walkers with 2 Scatter lasers and Spirit Stones (195)
1 Wraithlord w/ Bright lance and EML (155)

That comes to 1448 points. I was thinking of either running some DAs or SS with a 5 man squad of Dragons. I know that it's a slow army but with running now, it is a little bit more mobile. Any suggestions what I should run? Thanks

The army lacks a counter strike unit. I'd downgrade the WW squad and add a unit of Harlies.

I still have enough points for a Harlie squad but I was wondering if that would be enough. I need the WW squad to counter the mass armies (nids, IG, ect.)

Now I see that you have 300 pts. Harlies would be enough if you could doom the unit they charge. As you have two Farseers you could give one doom instead of guide.

Thank you...that's a good idea. I'll let you know when I give it a try...

You have plenty of anti-tank, you need some anti-infantry. Harlies and Scorpions would fit nicely. The harlies with a shadow seer prevent your opponent from shooting them up before assaulting your wraithguard, and scorpions can outflank to disrupt heavy weapon squads.

in the new 5th edition rules unfortunatly you can't run two troop's choices and expect to win although it's a good idea, if you want an affective but themed eldar army i'd recomend a dire avenger army in wave serpents/falcons you can use dire avengers to kill horde armies and get star cannons on your falcon's while being able to capture table quarter's on the 5/6th turn

I would just get rid of the Warwalkers.

They were made of cardboard in 4th ed but with the new vehicle squad rules they are made of tissue paper.

Ive been trying them out in multiple lists and games.

All they seem to do is pop a few things totaling half their points than become stunned or immobilized(which equals dead now).

I suppose if you are using them for a position draw of enemy units that always works.

yeah...
I'm just guessing (I havn't attempted to use my wraith guard army in 5th yet) because you need 10 wraith guard for them to count as troops, wraith guard armys are pretty weak in 5th. IMO The craftworld codex would have been viable in 5th ed since you could have 5 man 'troops' squads...

My plan to attempt to keep a wraithguardish flavour in a 1500pts game will be something like this:
1x 10man wraithguard
1x 5man wraith guard elites (maybe in a waveserpent?)
2x Ranger/Pathfinder squads
1x jetbike squad

This would give you 4 all important scoring troops units.

PaniC...

wraith guard armys are pretty weak in 5th.

Really, Wraithguard is a perfect anvil. But you need a hammer, too.

The only way I found to get a Wraithguard army to work is play it in 2000pts. at least.

As for the anvil, it should be 2 elite choices of Wraithguard flying around in waveserpants making everything pee their pants.

Screen Wraithlords with the 10xtroops or Wraithlords and walk them forward people will shoot at the wraithlords but no one wants to assault 3 monstrous creatures and 20 wraithguard.

Well most people... DAMN YOU GENE STEALERS!!!

Thanks for everyone and with their input. I have run quite a few games with 20 wraithguard and they do quite well. I used to run the 3X WW with SC even with the nerfed rules and they worked quite well. So you think that I should replace the 3 WW with? Should I go DA or what? I still have 250 points to spend and I was leaning towards Harlies though I do like SS.

I'm just trying to figure out what I should do. I know it's a very short range list and would have issues with horde armies. That was the WW job of trying to thin them out. I would like to keep it a 20 wraithguard though it does make it that much more difficult because of the points.

I'll play around some more...and thanks again. =)

Dear Orkyboss,

GW really thought that they were making troops BETTER with thew new mission victory conditions-only troops can hold objectives. Sadly, this is NOT turning out to be the case because....

1. Anything can contest an objective. So, a 35 point rhino or a landspeeder can move close to an objective and negate the troops on the last turn and...

2. KILL POINTS-1/3 of the time the missin is decided by how many units you eliminate. Troops are generally easier to eliminate than other units.

3. Capture and Control-Drawhammer. Again, you only need one troop unit to hold your own objective, a second if you want to go for the win.

So a maximum number of troops are really only needed in Seize Ground.

CnCman13's army may or may not work, but is consistant with the kill point denial theory of 5th edition.

I'd still think about brute force for the remaining units-Fire Prisms.....long range pie plates that can come in from reserve are good.....

OK, you have anti-tank. So, you want anti-horde/infantry. Step 1. Read the current Eldar FAQ. Step 2. 3 units of Swooping hawks with grenade packs and a Barroth. Total potential enemy kill points-about two. Move second and your SH might even deny the enemy 4 objectives!

Do it, you know you want to.....
