In the new 5th edition rule book - in the IG section following the Space Marine section where it lays out the units as they are involved in a battle - there are Icons used to represent units. One of the icons used for the armored units looks like a Leman Russ with a twin linked Multi-Melta in the turret. Maybe there is a new tank in the future for us.

Actually, the rumor we heard from a friend who attended GD Chicago, was that it is a new demolisher varient with twin linked multi-meltas in the turret (surprisingly, just like the illustration in question!).

Not sure as to the validity of this, but that's the story & he IS sticking to it!

In the GW Design podcast the guys say that there is indeed a sneak peak into a new guard unit.

If you look closely at the pic you'll notice the same vents on the sides (top in this pic) of the barrels that are on multimeltas.
By my count this tank has 1 twin linked multimelta, 2 multimeltas, and a lascannon.
Deffinately a mean tank.

There is no 4 barreled russ. It's all a joke GW's designers played just because they wanted to see how many threads we would all make about a little 1" picture in the new book

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Justv another Russ variant.

Now they need to:

1. Price them correctly
2. allow greater variety of sponsons.

We need the non-ordnance weapon Russes to be able to take Demolisher style sponsons. Twin linked lascannon turret and heavy bolter sponsons, fat load of good that does. Give us plasma cannon or multi meltas instead.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

What if they made the russ like the carnifex profile where you start with a basic statline and add whatever you want for x amt of points? instead of listing it like "leman russ battle tank" and "leman russ demolisher", it's just 1 big page with all the weapon options and stuff.

That would in my opinion be the best way to do it if they are going to bring back some of the old variants.

question is, would you ever take a multi-melta russ, with a lascannon in the hull, and two more sponson multi-meltas? You can only move and fire one gun, and who in their right mind would move to with-in 12 inches of that tank? Only if it had some special rule that would allow it to move and then fire to full effect. That would be bad ass and almost worth the points a tank like that would cost.

I'm kinda thinking (hoping) the new codex will allow sponson and/or hull stubbers. So if you want a tank that's gonna move around and do offensive things you take your 1 big cannon and stubbers for sponsons, or leave the sponsons home. If you're doing more of a defensive role (attached to a platoon for instance) then you can load it up with bigger weapons and have it sit there firing everything

Just confirmed today by one of my local gw staff, it is a new tank. Not sure what type but it is new, and there will be 22 new tanks in the IG codex. [/minor threadcromancy]

22 NEW tanks? As in, in addition to the tanks IG already has? I have to call bs on that one. Did this source of yours have a red shirt on? Was he a Captain Kirk Sacrificial Lamb Special?

On the other hand, I think it'd be cool.

I am sure he meant all of the various different flavors of tanks. Like an exterminator, vanquisher, conquerer, etc. I doubt they will make a new chasis, but i would LOVE to be proven wrong about that.

I don“t think its all that unreasonable to think they could include the Forgeworld variants in the new dex, that would add a ton of flavor to Gaurd and not require any new plastics really, but if they did make the new turrets in plastic that would be tits, and easy to do since they already have the models made.

Here is to hoping that this rumor is true.

Seeing as how the presently existing Codex Witch Hunters has twin-linked Multi-Meltas in it, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're woefully mistaken.

I initially had no idea what this was about, so I went looking for this mystery tank. For anyone else who may not have seen it either, I guess this has to be the image in question:

Now, that really doesn't look like Multi-Meltas to me. It doesn't actually look much like Autocannons, either, but since the Leman Russ Exterminator, featuring 1 set of twin-linked ACs, is already known to exist, albeit somehow only available to Space Wolves, my best guess would be that in the new Codex, the Exterminator is available, and now has 2 pairs of twin-linked ACs instead of just 1. Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part, since upon seeing the tiny, tiny image, I was immediately reminded of this lovely thing:

Sure, it's based on a Chimera rather than a Russ, but that was the first thing that popped into my head. I really love that turret, and having an excuse to actually field something that looks like that would be neat. Knowing GW, though, it'd compete for a force org. slot with regular Battle Cannon Russes and cost about as many points, rendering its existence moot.

IIRC, that's someone's Chimerax w/ HK Missile from a Golden Demon. The Chimerax, Chimedon and I think Chimerro were from Epic and translated to 40K in Inquisitor Magazine when Armorcast was making models and rules for 40K 2nd.

Oh, damn, ahh, sorry. I didn't mean new tanks. I just meant that there will be rules for 22 tanks in the codex. So, sorry. He's not crazy. Considering the number of tanks now, that means one new tank. But they'll probably scratch some of the current useless stuff and make more tanks.

OT but, what is a Chimerax, Chimedon or Chimerro gamewise? I keep seeing them in topics and can guess they are some variant on a Chimera chassis but where's the terminology from or rules?
