Subject: 2,000 Point Traditional Death Guard List

Ruthless Interrogator

This list has taken awhile to get to where it is. I've had alot of feedback on other forums about dropping the Dread or Greater Daemon from the list, but I've managed to keep them while fitting in a vindicator that was absent from the initial set up.
Anyway, any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. I may end up dropping the Dread to bulk out the Terminator squad to 7 and to add back a few other options I have to shave off to squeeze the vindicator in. I want to play at least 1 game with the Dread before I decide that they are indeed worthless units.

just some quick points because its late and i need sleep. your demon prince needs a psychic power. warptime and nurgles rot are both very good. the greater demon isnt worth it, especailly when you have to sacrifice a 63pt PM champion to get him out. drop him. your terminators are too few to be effective. change the champion to another powerfist add a heavy weapon, some more termies and some combi-bolters dreadnoughts are awful. drop it. try having 5 7 man squads instead of 3 14 man squads, to will get more out of them. they should all have melta guns and the champs should all have powerfists. if you can fit a few rhinos in there too it would help. defilers die on turn 1, especially at this points level. they arent worth taking at the best of times. vindicators arent as good as oblits but if you must only have things with the mark of nurgle and vehicles then vindicators are fine. drop the defiler and pick up another vindicator. general comments: you have precious little anti-tank, and at 2000pts you will pay for it. tanks are one of the only things that kill PMs with ease. your army is slow and will be out manuvered. you may do well against some gunlines just because PMs are so hard to kill. its a good start, but it needs work

taking up the mission
Polonius wrote:Well, seeing as I literally will die if I ever lose a game of 40k, I find your approach almost heretical. If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live? |

I'd drop the GD for Typhus. I personally find him very useful along with Termies.
Those Termies NEED either a Reaper autocannon or a heavy flamer. Flamer for assault, reaper for dakka.
I respect that you really want a dreadnought, but what's his second weapon? DCCW is the best, with a flamer as well.
Take some Oblits or another Vindicator.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

dreadnoughts are awful. drop it.
Im gonna have to disagree with that Regwon, they're great in situations where they can move from cover to cover balsting things on their way and then getting into close combat with a squad that left their anti-tank weapons at home like, for example, most of the squads in this guys army.
but really if you just pack a little more anti-tank, and get rid of your deamon, you'll have a good army.

Ah, some real list dissection, I'm happy to see it. I usually get alot of "looks solid" and "very fluffy" without much elaboration.
Just to go over a few things, this is just a revised list that I stripped stuff down to fit more stuff in. Initially I had Nurgle's Rot on the DP, 7 termies, but no Vindie.
I think I'm going to drop the Dread as I really just wanted to throw him in because I'm finishing building mine.
I just love Defilers, so I'll keep him. I also have had pretty good luck with them keeping them in cover to gain a save and just pounding the enemy with templates.
As for the PMs in my other lists I run them in 7 man squads, usually running 4 but I find they are usually lacking a bit of firepower and to keep it fluffy I bumped it to 14. After some thought I think the extra special weapons will still do more good than more bolter bodies and will increase the number of scoring units.
Anyway, I've changed things around based on the suggestions. I got it to exactly 2,000 points and added some Oblits for a little more anti-tank. Any other comments or suggestions are welcome.

yeah,
First off, I like your list. It seems solid.
I run the same 7 man Plague marines squads. but 5 squads is alot!.
You should think about a few rhinos, In fifth the are more surviveable they are good at contesting objectives, if your squads in one when it is pentrated you don't have to get out, and thre is no more entanglement.
I've not tried Defilers yet, I just don't get them!? a battlecanon on a runny killy CC monster seems like a waste of points.
But having seen your defiler I know you'll want to run it in games!!! let us know how it goes?
CC Dreads are cheaper, at 100pts each it's easy to add two to a list... I was sad to see your dread dropped. I'd have liked to see the conversion
Vindicators are really killy when holding objectives... but only have a range of 24".
If i was running vindcators I'd run two...
Those Terminators don't really need that Mark of nurgle. Terminators are tough enough. my terminators all look nurglesque but i remind people before a game that they are just regular Chaos Terminators. I actuall have started to come around to the idea of taking icon from other Gods on my squads... theres no reason why I should not have MOS I5 assault termiators that still look like they are a part of a nurgle force...
Panic...
