Subject: Plague Marines and True Grit

Just a quick question:
A long time ago, Plage Marines did have "True Grit". The most current PM models carry Bolter and Plague knife.
But I cannot find the ability listed in the newest (still 4th edition) Codex Chaos Spacemarines (while FNP is in there)
Yet it is interesting that among their equipment, Bolter, Bolt pistol and CCW are listed. Usually there is only the option to exchange BP &CCW for Bolter and vice versa.
So, what do you make of it?
a) Decide whether to use BP & CCW or Bolter?
b) Use Bolter and CCW as with True Grit? (2 attacks in CC, no assault bonus)
c) Use BP & CCW for determining attacks in CC and Bolter for normal attacks? (2 attacks in CC, plus assault bonus)
Kind regards,
Tierlieb

yeah,
CSMs (including PM) have all three weapons which they use as they please, which makes them better than a true grit marine.
you use the bolter when 12"-24" away
when within 12" either:
rapid fire with the Bolter inside of 12"
Fire the pistol and then assault, you get the +1 attack for charging (true grit didn't get this), then using the pistol and CCW you get the +1 attack for a extra CCW.
so that's 1 shot with a pistol and then 3 attacks on the charge.
Also i noticed that true grit has been dropped from the USR section.... i think it's going the way of the dodo as the codexs are updated.

That's my kind of interpretation of the rules! ;-)
So this would apply not only for Plague Marines, but --according to the codex' equipment listing-- also for:
* Chosen Chaos Space Marines
* Chaos Space Marines (as you already said)
* Noise Marines
* Chaos Havocs
But not for
* Khorne Berserkers
* Thousand Sons
* Chaos Raptors
Feels weird. But... RAW, eh?

They are getting away from the "may only have two weapons" idea.
Some armies are benefitting from it. Chaos Marines have a surprisingly large numbers of troops that are flagrantly breaking the rule.
It was a subltle advantage they added in. Many of the troops all have two cc, in addition to any other weapons. Notice things like raptors that 'trade their bolter for a melta gun', but wisely keep the two cc weapons.
No need for true grit when you actually have both cc weapons.

....and lo!.....The Age of Sigmar came to an end when Saint Veetock and his hamster legions smote the false Sigmar and destroyed the bubbleverse and lead the true believers back to the Old World.

Expect Grey Hunters to have the same gear - bolter, bp, and ccw - whenever the SW codex is redone.
I'd guess that Grey Knights will just get an extra attack on their profile, but it's probably optimistic to think we'll see that before the next presidential election.
I'm not sad to see True Grit go. Bolter, bp, and ccw is superior (as said above, shoot bp and charge) and the True Grit rules had too many issues (partially because they have different versions even in the SW codex) - does it work with combi-weapons, GKs get it in PA but not TDA, and a lot of people missed that they didn't get the extra attack on a charge.

As a matter of fact, they have done away with the rule completely. There is no mention in the 5th edition rule book that I can find where it states that there is any kind of limit on the ammount of weapons or equipment that a model may have. Individual codexes may have some sort of rule, but there isn't an overarcing one.

Read the DA FAQ, they state its legal for a commander to have 2 LC, and ranged weaponry, and to use them all.

I think the chaos lord can have twin LC's, a plasma pistol, and a combi-weapon.

sure they are letting people carry three weapons now but look at those chaos bikers, bolt pistol and close combat weapon. Which I must say I am thankful for, I allways liked bikes but thought for their cost they deserved a little more close combat oomph

they have lost the +1A for sitting on a 'Spikey' bike, so they end up the same in power overall.

I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live? |
