Ultramarine Terminator with Assault Cannon

Now that the AoBR box set is out and in your hands; what are your final thoughts? I got mine last night and initially I was impressed despite the edges of my mini rule book being slightly messed up due to packaging. Today, I cut all of the marines out of their sprue and am cleaning off the mold lines and test fitting things. There's a ton of flash and pronounced mold lines on these things and several mismolds where it has left portions of the bitz completely missing or holes in the bitz where the plastic is thin. On top of that I'm having fitment issues. None of this is severe enough that I can't take corrective action myself, but despite my initially being impressed I'm now a little less impressed. Overall I feel AoBR is a superb box set, but I feel the mini's it comes with leave me wanting a little more.

I clipped out all of my figs and everything fit together fine with the exception of the Warboss' power claw, 2 of the Deff Copter pilots' arms, and I think one of the SM bolters. Otherwise, everything fit pretty nicely without any fiddling. Of course there are the mold lines to clean up, but overall, I'm happy with the figures. They are good quality with nice dynamic poses. It would have been nice to have some options (e.g., more power claws and change out sluggas for shootas), but that would have just been bonus.
My Rulebook came with slightly crinkled edges on the cover. Probably the same packaging issue as you had but it sure is nice to have a small portable reference. I reference card, like what we got in an earlier White Dwarf would have been a really nice add, instead of having it at the end of the AOBR book. In fact, two, one for each player, would have really made it a extraordinary set.
For the small Assault on Black Reach pamphlet, I would have liked to see a couple of pages on the Background of Black Reach and some scenarios. The thumbnail sketch on the Imperium and how to expand is nice, but I would have also liked to see something specific on Black Reach.
Overall, I'm happy with my $60 purchase.

I'm happy with it. The only problem I had with anything was a few Bolters(snipped off the peg) and the Warboss' body not fitting flush(tiny gaps that are bugging me). No problems with flash or miscasts here.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor. |

The Nob arms needed to have a little green stuff to fill in the gaps but otherwise it was great. The rulebook was better than I thought it would be and I feel I saved cash on that alone.

Cut out da Orcs tonight and test fit 'em. For the most part they went together well. Some gaps in the arm joints, but that's the nature of snap fit mini's. I haven't noticed any of the issues I had with the SM having mismolds which is odd since they're on the same sprue, but I guess the Orc sculpting is a little more forgiving.
The warboss is just absolutely incredible. I've been staring at it non stop and just can't get over how awesome of a mini it is.
I haven't played Orcs since the small army I had from the 2E box set. I'm anxious to get these bad boys into action.

I absolutely love it, I've had no problem putting my Marines together (can't say anthing for the Orks, those greenies are staying on sprue to be traded for more Marines). I was pleasantly surprised with the fluff portions of the pamphlet. I like the new tone it's taken. It's more grim and dour than 'SOOPA DARK!'. Hopefully they keep it up.
I just can't believe GW, Dark Lord of the Ivory Tower, gave us that many miniatures for that price. It's made me look back on my WM purchases in a different light.

I helped my friend with his yesterday. I freaking love it all. Loads of mould-lines, but they're less obvious on the Orks, so no worries for me there. Kudos to Seb Perbert for the amazing Warboss. Much, much more impressive than the others availible, and so much detail on a plastic mini!

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

With regard to mould lines and bad line ups, I think it's the volume that has caused problems.
After all, when rolling out a new product like this, you need more than a few. Thus, I dare say in order to fulfil quotas, standards are allowed to slip a bit. Excsuable, well, not really no. But certainly understandable.
Just wish I wasn't skint...I wants Orkses!
