All this moaning about 5th Edition and nostalgia for 4th has got wondering what people are playing, for the most part?
That is, I have the sense that most games have moved on to 5th as the core rules, but are there actual holdouts?
If if so, what edition?

ill stick to 4th, allways loved it, 5th has too many snags, and the way they release codices each time an army gets re-made its the current strongest.

Also, the same question could be asked of 3rd Edition, and you would get the same answer.

I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who will say that 40k5 is "the perfect 40k rules set"...
But I think you'll find quite a few who would agree that it's the "best" rules set by GW for games of the size that we are now tending to play.

I'm playing 5th, but not really because I like the rules as a whole any better, mainly just because thats what everyone else is playing. I've played a few games of 4th recently, and wish I could get more in, but alas.
Honestly however I'd like to try and get some games of 2nd ed going

What a inane poll.
Of course most people are going to be playing 5th Ed. It's almost like you're seeking vindication DD...
On an unrelated note, no, I don't play any of the items in the poll there. I play a superior set of rules written by a group of people who's primary goal isn't the selling of miniatures.

HBMC, this is a warning. First, calling the poll "inane" is inappropriately hostile. When you make it personal you further compound the offense.
It's perfectly valid to say what you play. If you actually think the poll is inane, why are you participating in the thread?

It is a little bit redundant. I mean, it stands to reason that if you're playing 40k anywhere except among a group that has decided to not use the 5th ed rules, you're going to be using 5th ed. I really don't think that the word "inane" constitutes a personal attack. HBMC was saying that the idea was inane, not necessarily making a comment about the poster.

It's borderline, but still inappropriately hostile. That's why he's only getting a warning, not a week's suspension.

Well, apparently Kraut is acceptable. I've seen redneck bantered around. Can I use the N-word now? As far as insults I've seen more than a few here and nothing is said. Maybe you should give me your list, Mannahnin, so I make sure I don't get warned for using an ethnic slur or insult that refers to a protected group.

Yeah. Ok. If you say so chief.
But the poll is inane - the results alone show that - and the thread just is DD looking for a ' Ha! See! Everyone does play 5th Ed' sort of vindication so he can throw it in the face of the 'whiners'. Just look at his original post, and the wording thereof. He even starts by provoking a responce. Guess what? He got one.
But hey, we'll agree to disagree on this one then Rags. Be nice if we could have differing opinions without one of throwing his mod powers around though.
Maybe that's asking too much.

If I could I'd play RT (pre vehicle+wargear books) all the time. with only a few modifications it would be the best version of 40k.
I support HBMC's opinion of the poll. It would be better without the 5th edition entry as we can take it as given that many people will be playing 5th. As it is it tells us nothing.
Disallowed words would be very un-Dakka.

I'm thinking, in the next few weeks, we'll be playing 5th edition with some kind of different mission rules, or at least different objective missions. The three deployment types are fine, but the "you get one and I get one" and the kill points missions are just god awful, and I think we're done with them.
Anecdotally, someone I play with who may be moving recently mentioned that he might not mind moving to the san francisco area, since we've been told by another friend that the gamers/game stores in that area have already given up on 5th and they're back to playing 4th.
It seems really, really difficult to find a regular group of people to play with who are willing to not play the most current rules. Not that I personally want to do that (I think the rules are mostly an improvement over 4th, and I've never played previous editions). If anything, the poll should have two or three options that encompass 5th edition - something like
"I'm playing 5th, and I like it"
"I'm playing 5th, because I feel I have to for tournaments/to have opponents/whatever"
"I'm playing 5th, but only until I can find some people to play something else"
I think the poll results may look a lot different then, but hey what do I know. I know my friend who suffered through 3rd edition Orks and 4th edition rules is loving it

Wow. You play 5150?
I keed, I keed.
As to the poll, it's a perfectly fine question, as every edition is going to result in some folks either leaving the game (perhaps temporarily, perhaps permanently) and some sticking to the old game. There are plenty of folks still playing RT and 2nd ed. out there and having a grand old time. Why not? It's not like the older editions actually expire. It's not like you can't read the pages, the language turned to some ancient jibberish. If anything, older editions (especially when ignoring codicies) are 'perfect', without any intrusion of new rules to muck things up.
