I'm curious to know if anyone else is having or has had trouble removing their new GW counters from the sprue? Mine are damn near impossible to remove and the ones I have managed to remove broke. My hobby knife can't cut the plastic and my clippers are now ruined from the plastic being so hard. I don't know what to do. Any thoughts?

A new day, a new time zone.

Get better clippers? The plastic is definitely harder, and more brittle than the plastic for the models, but unless you got a sprue made out of ceramite, it's no match for a pair of sprue clippers.

Yeah, I could see it being an issue with cheap clippers, and a knife would be futile...

I use GW's clippers... got them in a hobby bundle a while back, which is the only reason I would have bought them, but have to admit they're darn good clippers. They didn't have any issues at all with the tokens.

Now here is the wrench in the gears... My clippers are GW. (Rather they were because they're garbage now )

I almost put a guy's eye out clipping my counters! It was from clipping the turn-counter. I tried my GW clippers to no avail. So I got a pair of wire-cutters out and was squeezing mightily with my eyes closed going "aaarrrgh." Then I hear a 'pop' and some guy across the room screamed. A quarter inch chunk of sprue had hit him in the face. ooops

How old are they? Maybe they were just getting a little blunt.

I can recall and count the number of sprues they've been used on, that's how new they are. Seven in case you're wondering.

I'm not hopeless in finding a way to remove the counters, but I was hoping that I wasn't alone on this issue and could get some insight on what others may have done to remove them.

yeah,
there is no easy way out of this one, cutting out those counters is a pain.
I unclipped two sets, 4 frames, I chipped/cracked about 4 counters and then had to spend a hour filing down all the rough edges...
but they are really useful in games to remember which vehicles been stunned or shaken.

anyway the short of it is just get on with clipping and try not to break to many.
it would have been nice if they somehow came separated out.
PaniC..

I haven't got any of the tokens, but I did find the same issue with the new templates from the BoBR set.

My model clippers were no match for the plastic, and I didn't want to ruin them, nor risk fracturing the templates, so I used a more heavy-duty pair of clippers from my tool box, more akin to wire-clippers.

Worked fine, although still took quite a bit of effort!

Cheers

I have the older yellow handle GW clippers, they seem to work fine on the counter set I have.

Perhaps the new clippers aren't as up to snuff? Get a set of wire cutters.

Those were pretty annoying to cut out even with the heavy duty wire cutters I had. The GW ones tend to be not so good quality compared to get what you can get for less money elsewhere.

What about that razor saw GW sells? Also, when you guys are cutting them out with the bigger clippers are they coming out clean or do they still have chipping where it was connected to the sprue?

That would be a potential explanation... I'm also still using the old yellow handled clippers. I had forgotten that they changed them a while back.

If I had to guess, I would say that the GW clippers are gak, pure and simple. X-U-R-O-N. Drop the dime, and you'll never have to drop another on clippers again. What use are cheap clippers if you just have ot keep replacing the things? Oh, they are good for someone to plan obselescence you out of yur cash. Ok.

BTW, OT: I think that that counter set sucks, however I have never used it. It looks like crap to me.

The objective counters are nice. The wound counters are useful. I've magnetized and painted the turn counter, which really made it much easier to read and use. The other stuff not as much, though I think I may start using it to remind myself what has fired so I don't forget anything.
