Hold Ground

These elite troops are skilled at seizing ground from the enemy, but also are able to secure their claim from enemy retrieval. Despite not being from the troop FOC the unit may claim objectives as if they were troops.

Candidates – flayed ones, some aspect warriors, Storm troopers, guard veterans, tyranid warriors, marine scouts, kommandos, etc.

What do you think?

Sounds like it will make a great IG doctrine.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."

Then what's the point of only troops being scoring units? If this rule were inserted, then we'd be back to seeing minimum troop selections and maximum killy stuff again.

I think Tyranid Warriors would be a bad idea. That would allow you to have 2 scoring HQ units, 3 scoring Elites units, 3 scoring Fast Attack units, and 6 scoring Troops units. Yikes.

It really does sound like something IG would have, though.

It's not like the IG need to take MORE troop options anyhow. Two platoons makes six capturing units.

Sorry, don't really see the need for it.

The troops mentioned above for taking an objective, not holding it. In Military terms, they are far too valuable and rare to have kicking their heels on a hill somewhere. Hence why the Grunts following their wake to dig in.

i agree with Mad DOk; most (if not all) elite units are made for seizing the ground from the enemy, they are not meant to be standing around.
If anyone (other tahn troops) should be standing around on objectives, it should be Heavy Support, but that would be OP.
Face it, only troops capturing works.

The point of war is not to die for your country, but to the make the other bastard die for his!

There's no need for such a special rule.

If GW wants a special unit to be able to score then they can make them a Troops choice, just like taking a Warboss in an Ork army allows Nobs to be taken as Troops.

With regard to HQ choices altering slots, I think this is a very valid arguement.

The Warboss, for example, can have more Nobz kicking around because he is likely to travel around with the biggest, 'ardest of the bunch, either out of reflected glory, or because he can always find a good fight. Thus, although nominally rare in terms of the army overall, the part of the battle the Warboss is involved in (if we assume that a game of 40k represents the breaking point of a larger engagement, which is a pretty big assumption I'll grant you) will have more of them, thus some are free to stand around holding objectives.

SoCal, USA!

Except, having Troops as the only Scoring units is a *good* thing.
