Well it's stupid of the GOP to automatically assume personal opinions effect professional performance, and all of his texts are ambiguous enough. But it was pretty stupid of the guy to use his FBI phone to make those texts. Especially if he wants a clear line drawn between his personal thoughts and his professional duties then he should take the effort to keep his personal thoughts on his personal stuff. I don't think it's that big a sin in the grand scheme of things, but in fairness the GOP didn't load the ammunition on this one (they're just making a mockery of it).

Trump uses his official phone to officially tweet his personal opinions all the time.

No KK, those are "official communications" from the Office of the President of the United States. Trump isn't calling a US Senator Pocahontas, the Office of POTUS is. Thats what makes this so messed up.

Joint Trump /May press conference. He just said fake news in his first answer. Its like kidnapping a parking attendant and forcing him to do a press conference.

Just called a NBC reporter dishonest for asking about NATO and Putin.

Said immigration is harming Europe and the US. Oh said fake news again.

Just said he met Putin 2 and a half times. How do you meet someone half a time?

Now they are arguing. This is comedy gold.

It's a 5 lane motorway pile up.

Trump's comments to the Sun newspaper have been getting wall to wall coverage on British TV since 6am this morning. It's now 2:26 pm over here...

And now he's backtracking on them?

I see Trump has just revised his 'Germany gets 80% of its energy from Russia' down to '40, 50, 60, I've even heard 70%'.

That's progress. Still a bit higher than the real figure of 8%, but you can't have everything, I suppose.

I think the US should keep him. He is a great man, giving the rest of the world something to laugh at every day. Truly he makes this world a better place.
Go make him eternal president for life or something.

On moon miranda.

I'm out for like 12 hours and somehow Trump manages to fumble something any other President would have seen as a softball easy win tour.

It would be amusing in something like Naked Gun or Caddyshack, but alas.

Methinks both Trump and May would have been ahead had this trip just not happened. President Snowflake McManchild displayed a marked sensitivity, while May just...couldnt even.

EDIT: just saw where Trump three May under the bus on her Brexit plan and praised BoJo...jesus I'm shocked May didn't have him declares Persona Non Grata then and there.

I don't find the collapse of American dignity very funny, myself.

It is likely Trump will not be around for 2020 given his age, diet and lifestyle. So that is something to look forward to.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised either. There really is no good candidate that has yet coalesced against him. It's like in 2012, really early, there was a guy on here who kept saying that Obama would for sure lose because polling was showing generic republican was beating him by >8 points. The problem is Obama wasn't running against a generic republican, he was running against a specific list of republicans, and he was beating all of those specific republicans by the same percentage. And of course, he did win,. because specific republicans come with specific baggage and weaknesses.

Even if you come up with a decent candidate, I am not sure how you counter Trump's style of campaigning. What do you do when you promise specific, quantifiable policy positions, and he promises flying cars? What do you do when a substantial chunk of the populace is willing to say to agree that yeah, flying cars could totally happen, and I'd like one too! Because flying cars is really not different than the idea that we're going to build a wall that meaningfully affects illegal immigration and that Mexico would pay for it.

How are you supposed to counter a candidate who slides out of scandal by simply overwhelming you with them?

No idea.

Lets focus on the issue. Trump attacks German dependence on Russian Gas supplies (really all Europe) Which this liberal article claims "60-70 of gas supplies" come from Russia. With the Nord 2 pipeline (11 billion dollar project - will most likely increase dependence in the future).

Liberal response "You said energy not gas! Moron!!!"

You care more about Russia trolling people on Facebook and declare it as direct interference in our election process. Yet - Russia actually solidifying a monopoly on on European Gas imports...that is what...fake news?

I am not bothered at all with his attacking Germany for relying on Russian Gas, I mean I think it is weird since he relies on Russian support to win his elections but I am against the gas pipeline too, and the German politicians including ex-chancellors who are up to their neck in Russian money. That does not mean Germany is controlled by Russia, though.

I am annoyed by his extremely poor manners when dealing with other world leaders and his complete lack of respect for their positions as democratic representatives of their nations. I am annoyed that he is kissing the arse of murderous dictators while treating old allies who have fought alongside the US in living memory and who are still doing so like dogshit on his shoe.

Stop putting words in our mouths and trying to change the argument to something else. It will not work.

Ouze: I predict the US will be suffering economically due to the stupid trade war Trump started and it will bring a lot of disillusionment. It is easy to cheer for pie in the sky policies until you lose your job because of them. If America does re-elect him, it is probably lost.

So the press secretary to the FLOTUS is now backing up Trump's weird lie that he was in the UK the day of the Brexit vote and he predicted it.

I mean, why? It is so obviously not true, and it is so easy to disprove, you have to wonder why these people even bother lying about such petty stuff. Anyone who supports them must not put a very high value on honesty or integrity, I would definitely have to take care when dealing with them.

It is the implication that Europe is somehow totally controlled by Russia just because it imports Russian gas that people have an issue with. Russia is not an enemy nation or anything. Just because Germany and Russia disagree on some issues doesn't mean they can't do business anymore. Russia signs deals with Germany and other European countries for the export of gas. It is bound to the conditions of those deals which means that it can't just stop supplying gas or anything and therefore the gas exports don't exactly translate into 'total control'. If Russia were to break its contracts, it would be forced to pay massive fines and European countries would just look for a different supplier. Even more so because Russia needs the profits of those gas exports. So those pipelines go both ways. Through importing gas, Germany controls Russia as much as Russia controls Germany.

Because there's a propaganda machine on the right that will either repeat the lie as truth, or simply ignore and fail to report on the lie at all. And the viewers of that propaganda machine are constantly told that anything that contradicts what they're being told is fake news.

Yes, generally speaking GOP policies tend to lead to recession. We see it with Reagan, H.W Bush. and then W Bush, and I think it goes back farther. But when Trump blames the Democrats, will the base believe him? With all the other clearly dubious stuff they have been willing to believe it seems likely they would.

I say 'likely' because it will depend on the economy leading up to re-election. Despite how pissed off the left is at him grabbing by the pussy, in reality people vote based on how their wallet is doing. If the economy, which is on fire at the moment, doesn't slip into a recession, and unemployment continues at the unreal rate it has been, and corporate profits continue, all he has to do is stand at the podium and state that and ask if you want more of it. Doesn't matter that we are in a late economic cycle and are naturally facing a recession in a few years no matter who the President is. At the end of the day, "Its about the economy, stupid."

This hasn't even been mentioned here lately, but remember all that trade war talk on here weeks ago? All the amateur arm-chair dakka economists stating no one wins a trade war and that everyone loses? What's happened since? Trump's initial tariffs went in and China, trying to look tough, slapped some right back. The Stock Market shrugged its shoulders, and right on cue and quite predictably, Trump said ok we're going to do 200bn more. What came out of China? Crickets. Now they are desperate to defuse the situation because they know better than everyone else that China is a deck of cards. China's debt is going to cause all sorts of problems in the future and trying to beat us at economics is a sure way for them to speed up armageddon. They know it. We know it. And Trump knows it. Everyone knows it. China's stock market is teetering on full on panic, and money is fleeing emerging markets. Guess where all that money is going? What does that tell you? Do I care about some soybean farmers? Sure, but there are far more things at stake here than them. I love that we have a president finally playing hardball on this, because we can debate a whole host of social issues here, many of which I do not even agree with Trump on, however having a strong economy is first and foremost the most important as its what puts food on our plates. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, comes second to that. And this fight with China and others was going to have to happen at some point. When would you have preferred it happen? When our hand was weak? Or strong? There is no better time to do this when there is practically a shortage of employees in this country.

As I said, there are a lot of things he's done I disagree with, but I can't win them all. Obama was well spoken, classy, charismatic, and cool, and thought taxing would be the best way out of an economic meltdown. Right. Our international friends loved him (at least for awhile) because he gave and gave and rarely ever took. If you want to blame anyone for Trump being elected, look no further than Obama. That's the harsh reality. Democrats forgot that its about the economy, and it bit them in the ass.

In the last two Presidents we've had polar opposites. Both have their strengths and both have their weaknesses.

Yeah, but Trump isn't just taking on China, though. It's the EU as well, and the EU is being smart by going after products made in the states of Trump's supporters and other GOP top brass.

Trump has a point about NATO and alliance members not contributing enough.

But Trump and a lot of Americans spectacularly miss the point about NATO and other international organisation. They can't see the bigger picture.

Did America come up with the Marshall plan and NATO because they has nothing better to do that day? Re-build Japan for a laugh?

No, because Truman and Marshall could see the bigger picture. Friendly, stable and prosperous democracies are good for America. They buy American goods and support America when the gak hits the fan.

Thank feth these great American statesmen of the past didn't have Trump's zero-sum view of the world. Because they knew what happened when America pulled the plug on the world after The Great War. You get another war and they weren't making that mistake again.
