Theres just a charm to the firstborn that the Primaris lack imo and you made these here really pop.

Thanks, I think you’re right about their charm, but some of the latest Primaris stuff is cool too.

Thanks Tommy
ShadowsAndDust wrote:I believe they are the Void Panthers.

Thanks ShadowsAndDust, you’re correct, they are Void Panthers, my own custom chapter

I’m happy to report that the 3rd squad of Tactical Marines for my Void Panthers is complete

The rest of the squad also came out to play

So that sees me 1 Devastator squad away from a full Demi-Company so they’ll be my next Panthers project I think. With that I placed the Tactical Marines on the display board

I quite like the top down shots so took a few more
tac Squad 2

Fast Attack support

Air Support

Assault Marines

tac squad 1 and Leadership

Plus a few low down shots

I now realise that I forgot the sergeants black stripe on his helmet

And an oldie from tac squad 2 as I love this guys positioning

I have also started another project, some test schemes for a future Orcs & Goblins scheme, but no pics just yet

Thanks for looking

What amazing group shots, thank you for posting so many! The work is excellent, the board a great display piece and the photography top notch.

(Tongue firmly in cheek) I must admit though, the unit blazons make me hear "Thunder, THUNDER! Thun'nercats- HO!!!!"

Really good work and very enjoyable to scroll through and see.

Cheers, Plenty more where they came from!

Indeed, here’s the next batch now that I’ve stupidly decided to paint the whole Devastator squad in one go! Doing so has highlighted a few that are missing things like purity seals, so I need to fix that.

Seeing some paint on it, the converted multimelta looks pretty good imho. The back pack is a bit weedy, but I can live with it. Some of the Bolter marines are a bit caked up with paint but I’ll crack on anyway and hopefully they won’t look too nasty once completed.

Separately I’ve put together a scout squad. I wasn’t planning on adding them to my army, but I bid 99p on 3 bodies and won. Together with the random bits I’ve collected over the past couple of years I managed to put together a squad of 5. No idea whether their load out is legal or not so if anyone knows please comment

I think they’re from a bunch of kits, but the sergeant is the most interesting one. I think his legs and torso are from the Land Speeder Storm. His pose was kind of similar to someone running, so I cut his legs off at the groin so I could rotate his but and get his torso more upright. I used a good bit of sprue goo to hide the cuts and it worked pretty nicely. The tabard helped too! . His head is actually from one of the Space Marine Heroes series 2 Terminators, I think it works quite well even if it is slightly bigger than the normal scout head! The back of his head had its leg hole filled and reshaped with more sprue goo as well. The others were just using whatever bits seemed to work. I have 4 more torsos so I might pick up a few bits to build another squad if the right deal comes around.

Thanks for looking

Thanks, I think I’m getting them to the stage where I can rattle them out pretty quickly (for me) now as well as looking better than the originals.
Not Online!!! wrote:Very great work gobert!

Thanks NotOnline!!!

I did a little side quest the other week and put a test scheme together for some Orcs & Goblins based loosely on goobertowns night goblin scheme. The yellow was airbrushed and turned out quite nice, then most of the rest was speed paints and metallics.

I think for the gobbos I want some greater contrast on the yellow and have it cover proportionally more areas. The purple contrast is also way too dark (and the dark pic makes it even harder to see. The eM4 minis are pretty simple but they took the scheme well as a proof of concept.

Elsewhere the Devastators are making steady progress, having had their colours blocked back in after washes and the weapons even had their first highlight.

There’s also been a change of plan in the lay out of the Company. The Bolter guys will only be temporary Devastators. I seem to have lost one of the missile launcher backpacks while priming so went on eBay and ended up buying a bunch of Devastators for a really good price, almost enough to make a complete squad for each weapon load out. Frustratingly 1 of the Missile Launcher backpacks was missing. So I’m now on the hunt for another squad with a Missile Launcher, Lascannon and a couple of Grav Cannons to complete the set. For now the Bolter dudes will fill out the Dev squad before switching to be Tacticals in the future.

I also looked at how many points of Panthers I have and it seems I have 6500 points worth, though it seems those are 9th Ed points as I have switched my BattleScribe roster.

Thanks for looking

Seems appropriate Cap!

I’ve been rather absent of the hobby this past few weeks thanks to picking up a chest infection. Being really under the weather for a good week and having no energy the rest of the intervening time. I think I’m starting to recover now that the antibiotics have kicked in so hopefully will make decent progress soon. The little hobby I have managed has seen me get the gold and silver highlights done on the Devastators.

I feel these guys are in the home stretch now. One thing I’ve noticed though is that the Nuln oil I used has been super glossy. It’s made painting the purple areas quite tricky with reflections to contend with. I might need to find an alternative liquid talent.

I have also begun the expansion of the Company. Whilst looking for a missile launcher back pack I found a good deal on a LOAD of Devastator bits so bought enough for a squad of each weapon… ish… I then bought another squad so I could finish off the Grav Cannons and Lascannons oh well, they’re beginning to look pretty cool I think.

I was pleasantly surprised that the crouching poses kind of work for more than just the missile launcher. They’re a little derpy in that they twist their bodies to quite an uncomfortable pose, but it is at least possible to achieve. I think they add a little variety to the poses too. So I can see what bits will be left to sell I’ve embarked on building all of the Devastators and Heavy Gunners for the remaining tactical squads. To make it work I think I need to switch a Tactical Missile Launcher to be a Devastator instead. I probably need to sort out some more squad markings too

Edit: looks like I missed the pics. Not sure whether it was just for me, but dakka was being mighty slow over the weekend

Glad you're on the mend, gobert. I have seen Nuln Oil in both gloss and non-gloss. Maybe you can rustle up some non-gloss and not have to switch. Have you tried Army Painter Dark Tone? It's pretty flat.

Thanks man, sadly it’s a lingering thing so I’m still not back to normal, getting there though I think. I’m pretty sure the stuff I have is supposedly no-gloss, but I should definitely recheck the bottle. I don’t think I’ve tried dark tone, just the strong tone. Will give that a go if I’m still struggling.

It was a Grand Prix weekend again
Spoiler:
well done Lando!
, so a couple of evenings of watching f1 and painting allowed me to make good progress on the Devastator squad. I’m pretty much done, just a wash on the bases and some bone colour on the parchments:

I also got a new painting toy, in the shape of a magnifying light. I’m not convinced as yet for a few reasons. I bought cheap and didn’t realise how small the magnifying lens is. That makes it had to focus on things unless they’re right behind it. I also have zero depth perception when looking through it, so I kept splotching paint all over the place. On the plus side some of the highlights are nice and crisp and I got the lens dots on the helmets pretty well placed I think.

Thanks for looking!

Very snazy.
Yeah devastors are allways a bit iffy as are any heavy weapon with chainfeeds.

That said, in regards to HW's maybee you could take a look at the HH range if the height difference isn't too offputing or atleast at the weapons

Yep, the chain feeds are properly dodgy, and heavily prone to jams if not designed properly irl. I did look at the hh sprues but a couple of decent eBay hauls and I have enough first born 40k bits with about enough spares to recoup my expenditure on job lots… maybe?

Thanks Cap, but don’t look too closely as there are some THICK previous paint jobs hiding underneath the shiny Panther outer layers of paint good enough for my aspirations though!

My Panthers Kill Team got another outing this evening against @Coleface40k (check him out on insta for some cool minis) and his Scouts. This time we played in a board game bar (Chance and Counters at the bottom of Christmas Steps in Bristol, great place, staff, beer & pies!) so could take our time to figure out rules and get things more correct this time round!

This side of the board was carnage, losing my Plasma Gunner and Bolter dude early on to the Sniper that I forgot was there. Sgt Varenus got a few Plasma shots off and did some damage but in the end the scouts flooded the area and a krak missile to the face finished him off before a sneaky scout ran around my overwatching Marine to win the game by 1VP with the final action of the game! Tense stuff!

Here’s the end game with scout hiding out of sight in the corner and the missile scout that killed my Sgt.

MVP was Brother Toriad with a Heavy Bolter, taking out a bunch scouts thanks to Gabriel’s Auspex before advancing to the objective when the last ones on this side of the board ran away!

Great fun was had and probably a few more beers than I should have had on a weeknight but it’s all good!

Thanks for looking!

With this cold/flu/covid/infection thing lingering it’s been slow to finish the Devastators, but finished they now are! First up is the supporting Marines with their bolters

They turned out pretty decently given a few of these lads had at least one painting beneath their primer. It’s obscured a bit of details here and there but I think it’s not completely obvious for the most part. Now I’ve change plan for the company these guys will change to being Tactical Marines when I paint up the next squad.

Next is the Main event with their Heavy Weapons

I like how these guys turned out, with a few interesting features like the reloading missile launchers, golden circle on the pauldron of one of the Multi-Melta guys and the Sergeants helmet being my personal highlights. As with the Bolter chaps these guys will end up being split to other squads as I want full squads of each weapon type eventually.

I’ve got a few more pics (individuals and scenic) that I’ll probably post here over the next couple of days

Thanks for looking!

Yeah, I still can’t shake this illness and a few other life events going on means I’ve been absent here and lacking in paint motivation
Syro_ wrote:Woohoo! More Void Panthers! The new guys look great, and I'm happy that I'm not the only one working on a lot of first born marines.

Yeah, loads more still to come! First Born are still my favourites, the Primaris just aren’t anywhere near as iconic imho. The addition of old school helmets helps though!

Before the display board pics here’s some spam of the heavy weapons guys individually. First up is the Marine with the Multi Melta I converted from one in the land speeder kit. The gun itself turned out great, but I think the string used as cabling and the back pack let him down a bit… so he looks best in this first pic where you can see much of his failings!

I have aspare Multi Melta back pack so I might change that up at some point

Sticking with the Multi Melta guys here’s the legit model

I like how his mini Panther logo worked out. It’s amazing what you can do with some thin card stock and some Oyumaru moulds.

That photo suggest I forgot the second highlight on his Devastator icon

Next up is the Missile Launcher dude that needs his back pack changing

I quite like the pose that if I remember right was from his previous owner. Kinda looks like he’s been taken by surprise mid reload
Looks like I forgot a pic of his Left side

And next is the lad with the proper back pack

I reckon he’s selecting his next target here

Finally here’s one of my favourite minis I’ve built for the Panthers, probably due to that Venerable Dreadnought helmet

His servo skull is pretty cool too, one of the very few metal parts in the army

I didn’t bother with individual pics of the Bolter chaps as they’re not as interesting. And you’re all waiting on the display board pics, so here you go!

The eagle eyed amongst you might notice the board is looking a bit empty. That’s because I got the whole gang out to see the state of the Company’s

Here’s the Third Company as it currently stands

With bits of Second Company supporting units alongside

And the First Company

And the whole Army as it currently stands;

Not shown are the Marines to fill the blank slots, a bunch of fast attack bits like Bikes, Attack Bikes and Land Speeders, plus a few Rhino chassis to build a Rhino, Razorback and a Predator… should be enough to keep me out of trouble…

Thanks for looking

I agree completely. There is something much more iconic about first born, I prefer them too.

Void Panthers are looking great. I've been tempted for a while to ask for a full company/force shot but I know how much work they are to set up... So it's a wonderful surprise to see your post. I have some catching up to do on my Dark Angels 5th company after seeing your Void Panthers
