Hey guys this is my first model in a while and I was wondering what you guys thought. Any painting tips? I would like to enter this in future painting competitions so I would like it to be as perfect as possible.

I would use a drill press and bore out the barrel of the storm-bolter, but overall not too shabby, good luck.

I agree with da-chaos-orks when it comes to the white..it's much too "clean", even on the shoulder pad.

What have you done to the gold areas so far? I know how pics can be so once we hear what steps you've taken it'll be easier to give some tips.

Definitely do something with the barrel. Drilling it is the way to go.

I like your highlighting of the black. Very subtle but it's there. The eyes are awesome, very sinister. The base I like too...looks like you went with a minimalist approach, then tossed in a couple things to break it up a bit. Very nice

I think the gold mainly of the crosarius??? needs some depth maybe a wash...i dont know one that would suit as i dont have any but an ink you could use would be chestnut ink seems to go well with golds

Very nice paint job on him. I'd only recommend boring out the holes for the storm bolter.

I'd agree with the above that is it a nice paint job but needs more definition. Washes on various parts should take care of most of that.

Looks nice! I second the advice provided so far, but I'd use the new gryphonne sepia or ogryn flesh wash on the gold rather than chestnut ink (which may be too reddish). The sepia or ogryn flesh wash would also work nicely on the white, but the devlan mud might work better.

You can also highlight the gold by mixing it with mithril silver and using it to hit the edges.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

like the others said, use a brown wash over the gold parts. when thatas dry take some mithril silver and very very lightly drylbrush (make sure to go against the dirrection of the crosiarus so) to give it that worn look. I doubt any marine really has a solid gold weapon so I do this to a lot if not all of mine.

Hey Jake!
I'd say the advice given here is great.
Also you may want to highlight the skull hanging between his legs on the back of the tabbard. It still looks like it's scorched brown.

Did you get your prize for the black reach painting competition?

Easiest way to do bone and skulls and such (that I can think of) is basing with a dark brown, drybrush with bleached bone and highlight with skull white. That's the way I did my VC skeletons.

I won't bother.
