So I'm thinking of doing monowheeled trukks for my AOBR boyz. The idea would be a wheel about 3-4" in diameter at the center, with a cockpit/engine/gunnery piece to the left side and a wrap-around platform for the boyz on the front/right/back (or even to have it wrap all the way around; haven't decided yet). I'm going to use Imex Platformer pieces for the platform (It even uses the same word! Brilliant!) but I need a good wheel. I was thinking of using Brigade's VSF/GASLIGHT wheels, but I'm not 100% on that. Have also toyed with using RC car wheels, but I want a more dieselpunk/steampunk look.

So...any thoughts would be appreciated!

Somebody did a similar conversion many years ago, except it represented bikes. It was converted boyz with forks and a whell instead of legs and feet.
Was it Gonads? Been a long time...

I was going to suggest the old 2nd Ed battlewagon back wheels, but I just measured one and it's only 2". If you can actually find some (not easy), might make for a cute monowheel buggy perhaps...

My initial thought was for a model Semi-Trucks tires; however, I don't think they'll be big enough. Or some of the larger scale Motorcycle models, but what a waste of cash to get just the tires...

I'll check the Tamiya site quick.

yeah,
sounds like a cool idea,
My first thought was the old spiderman mono bike toy. the wheel went all around spidy and the bike... can't find a picture though..

then some starwas toys
general grevious has a mono bike there are bound to be lots of versions of this.

also there was the tanks that had huge dual wheels that workin a similar mannor... might be able to get two wheels from one toy..

another one tie crawler

If you can confirm the scale could make for good start points...

or use a Land Raider separating the two track sections out make two monotread battlewagons...
... especially cool would be the old LR as the tracks went all the way around and the boys could walk through the middle...

PaniC...

Huh. The mono-tread idea is a good one. I was going to look for SW toys this week anyway (for GASLIGHT/VSF) so I'll keep my eyes peeled for that wheeled vehicle and the tie tank.

A LR or chimera/Russ kit can be easily made into two monotrack vehicles - very orky for a Lootas army

doesn anyone remember the 2nd or 3rd edition rhino's where the treat went over the top of the tank without guards? they are cool, but the paint jobs from that era of GW was odd, i still love the old nids especially the artwork

Well because it's going to be orkish in nature the wheel doesn't exactly have to be round. In fact maybe it could be octagonal or dodecagonal(12 sides). This way you can make the center "wheel" any size you want by scratch building it out of sprues or something.

Also, to give it a more steampunky look, you could add those tread plate things you see on WW1 heavy guns.

Go to this page http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-weapons/heavy-ww1-allied.htm and scroll down to the 18-pounder field gun near the bottom.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

How about the Harkonnen buzzsaw from Emperor: Battle For Dune. while not shown here the wheel is in fact a circular saw and it slices through infantry as it goes. Very orky, very chaos too.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Check this out. I had drawn up plans to make an Ork version of this...
