Her is my test model compete with glowy eyes. It's been a long time since I've played marines, I think it's going to be fun.

Here is the rest of the TAC squad waiting for another coat of paint.

One quick comment about the glowing eyes, they look alright so far, but had I not known your intent, I probably wouldn't have inferred "glowing" from your work so far.

One suggestion that usually gets the job done for glow for me is to do a reversal of standard highlighting/shading procedure. By which I mean all the crags and holes and gaps are painted the brightest, and the darkest being the hard edges, with the flat spots being the middle colours. I have a hard time getting a glow to work with less than 4-5 colours, but that's just me.

Keep up the good work!

Can you post a pic of what you mean. I'm very interested.

Cheers,

I haven't got any recent glow effects to show you, but if you're interested there's a good brushthralls article about forced lighting on your minis:

http://www.brushthralls.com/painting-techniques/object-source-lighting-the-basics.html

as a matter of fact, that's a generally good site for painting info all around.

VERY nice. I got more discouraged to do marines when for whatever reason I just could not paint them how I wanted. The highlighting was a MAJOR pain.

Looking good. I don't have the patience to paint on or blend highlights. I'm Captain Drybrush.

Looking good! Quick question, as these look to be your own chapter are they going to be veterans? I'm a bit of a fluff nutter and usually white trim and the (wonderful freehand btw) laurel's usually designate 1st Company which is the vet. company.

Good eye, I am planning on making my army the 1st company. In actual game play, they will have to be just regular marines (I can't take that many stern guard).

Here is an update. A little more work done. This time a bit of highlighting.

Things look pretty good. However the glowing doesn't seem right. Above the eye socket area, the glow wouldn't go up that high. I'd say maybe a quarter of a millimeter would be illuminated; beyond that it's a stretch.

Looking good lookin good!!! You have a mastery of washes that I just cant compete with. Something about it makes it so that I allways seem to screw up.

Slight suggestion. Being that you are using white as your main contrast color, just try....on one and see if you like it...picking out the mouth vent lines with either a very light grey or even white. With as much attention to detail your giving them (sweet action on the eye's btw) I think that would really bring out the "blank spot" on their helmets.

P.S. Oh, and might a suggest washing the techno gubbins on the side of their helmets. They look really silvery in your pics. Front left back right in your last pic.

Good call. I'll do that.

I hear you. Thanks for the comment. The glow shall be lowered.

Update: So, I started cleaning them up a bit and added some more highlighting. Thanks for all of the helpful comments guys.

3 things.

The paint quality is looking GOOD. Very nice.

Please, skip the glowing eyes. It's not quite working out and distracting what are, otherwise. wonderfully painted minis

What did you do to the Sgt's skin? the head was looking REALLY good... then you went and painted over it.

wait wait wait wait... huh..?

The old sergeant's head was amazing, the new head is just not good enough compared to what you can do.

I agree with Mr. Memories, the eyes are too much.

These look sweet,
really really good.

I didn't notice the eyes at all until I read the thread, but they are nicey done, just not very noticable. Wjicj is probably a good thing.

Are these meant to be ultramarines,
or your own chapter?

Oddly enough it was just a layer or two of dark flesh.

Well, other than a few minor odds and ends, I'm calling them done. C&C welcome as always.

Personally I liked them alot better before you bled the glow onto the helmets. It distracts my eye from the overall effect. The eye glow in and of itself is awesome.

The overall models are incredible, btw, I just wanted to give my opinion on it.

Keep it up
