I'm thinking of knocking together a couple "counts as" Warhounds (superheavy combat striders), and wanted to arm them with appropriate-looking Titan weapons.

While I know about how big the strider chassis should be to match with a Warhound, I'm not exactly sure how big the guns need to be. If they're going to be properly Titan-sized, how big are we talking?

I'm thinking the Turbo-Laser Destructor would have an overall length of about 7" with 1/2" barrels, while the Plasma Blastgun would have an overall length of around 6" with perhaps 5/8" barrels?

Would those dimensions be about right, or am I too far off?

I think straight out size is less important then how they look on the chassis. Ultimately they are gonna look good or bad depending on that.

As long as they are honking big, and have the visual cues to their weapon type, I don't think anybody will fault the model.

There is a word for a wargamer with an empty paint bench.

Dead.

OK, thanks.

I can work with that.

The dimensions you have above would be about right, very similar to Armorcast weapons. As HisDivineShadow said its more the visual cues and how the look with the chassis.

I'm planning to scale the chassis around the weapons.

So I need to make sure that the weapons are at least large enough, so that the resulting chassis is large enough.

The PD is about 16 cm long based on my chaos warhound. If you were looking just to include the front of the weapon, up until the point where the plasma coils finished, it would be about 8.5 cms.

But just like the posters above said, its more about how it looks that its actual size, if it looks right then chances are no-one will fault it.

Malfred: Terminator Armor has always had room for extra boobage.
Drake_Marcus: It's true- that's why the Space Wolves love termie armour so much. The whole "bear" thing they've got going on is just a thinly veiled cover-up of their huge, hairy cleavage.

Right, but I can probably make it look "right" at 80% scale, which wouldn't really be "right".

Awesome!

Tho if I read it right, the weapons are about 9" long?

So FW shrank the guns compared to Armorcast? How wierd.

Heh, I thought it was an American Quarter, a mere whisker off in size.

Just two things:
1. English is not my mother tongue. I´m really sorry for the misunderstandings and the kicks to the dictionary. Don´t be too hard on me, OK?
2. With the best intentions sometimes comes the worst advice. But you asked for it, didn't you?

Forge World weapons are shorter but wider, especially the gatling heavy bolters.

If I were to build a new weapon I'd start by using a spare turret mounting top plate from a rhino. It has the right look, the mounting collar is the right dimension to mount it to a titan, and the rest of its dimensions are similar to titan weapons as well. You could then box it off either with plastic card or some of the hand rails from any of the cities of death kits and mount the appropriate plastic tubes for barrels.

@aka_mythos: NOI, but I've got something *very* different in mind. If this thing ever gets off the ground, you'll see that the mounting collar really won't matter.

We're talking pretty much Full Scratch Build here...
