Are you asking for advice on which army play? Did I get it right?

The standard choice should be Space Marines. If you have Blood Angels, then Blood Angels, but if you have the codex, you should just play (Red) Space Marines. Maybe later you change your mind, but it´s always good to learn how to play them (Marines) because really a lot of people play them.

Just two things:
1. English is not my mother tongue. I´m really sorry for the misunderstandings and the kicks to the dictionary. Don´t be too hard on me, OK?
2. With the best intentions sometimes comes the worst advice. But you asked for it, didn't you?

for someone new to 40k i wouldnt try guard, not the best army as sometmes they can be unfogiving if you make a small mistake.
marines or orks are pretty solid as a starting army.
out of the 2 i would say marines simply because they would be the most simple starting army.
easy to paint, easy to play, and you can build the whole army in plastic so you dont have to play about with metal.

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

Marines are a good starter. There aren't many models to paint and those there are are easy.

Marines are the reference which you will use to measure other armies. I strongly advice every new player to start playing marines, and then change later if you want to try something new.

Space Marines is an army specifically designed for new (and veteran) players. The only reason for playing other different army is that you love the minis or the fluff of this other army.

Orks are volumes of figs... if you play the hoard. Generally not too manueverable as a whole but then again 180 orcs take up most of the manuever space. If you lover rolling dice and really get into modelling, this would be the choice for you.

Imperial guard is kind of a tough army right now. If you are willing to wait, they should be getting a new codex and I would not want to commit to a style with them that just might not exist in 6 months or a year. Again a hoard army.

Blood Angels are really an assault specialist marine army. With the release of the new Space Marine codex, your stuff is really overpriced. Not saying it is not playable but by the time all is said and done, troop for troop, a SM codex army will have a 200 point bonus on what you pay in the Blood Angel codex.

If you like the idea of red marines, I would follow the previous advice and play a standard marine army. They field most of the same things you will want in a Blood Angel army. Just keep in mind if you want to end up a Blood Angel if you want slots for the special Blood Angel only things like Death Company, Furioso Dreadnoughts or Baal Predators.

i like the tanks and such for the imperial guard, is there any kind of list i could build along the lines of tanks, infantry, and long range support?

OLD MAN ULTRAMARINES' BASEMENT

DA brings up a bunch of very good points. I have played IG, and I now play Orcs. IG is very unforgiving, and since you don't mind giving up mistakes, that doesn't matter, but one small mistake could mean a win or a loss. Orcs are very forgiving. One big mistake usually*** means nothing. The only problem with Orcs is the volume of figs you have to model and paint. SM's are a mix of both. Being forgiving and unforgiving in the same sense. SM's are a gateway to other armies. They really open your mind to what you can do with certain armies, and they look really cool. I personaly suggest SM's as i should have picked them also as my first army, and not IG/Orcs. Just an opinion of mine. I do hope this helps. As for a 700 pt orc armie, well that is like, 720 pts for 90 orcs, with 3 PK, 6 Big Shoota(3 per squad of 30) and 3 Rokkit Launcha(3 in the other 30 orcs). This works for me. But not for everyone else. Again, I hope this helps!

That helps for orks but what about IG and i am starting to think the SM are over-rated

since your looking to orks and ig then sm are a mute point. i agree with the other guy about waiting for the guard to bulid a guard amy with the current codex you are doing yourself a disservice. 40k is an arms race if ive ever seen one, with each new codex that comes out they get stronger and stronger. the guard are going to get a new codex id say within like 6 months. they got bad *** new stuff that ive heard about. like the ability to take tank squads (3 leaman russ) that only count as 1 heavy support and new combat drills. with 5th edtion everything and its mother gets a decent cover save, so id wait for the new dex. Orks on the other hand. ive seen a whole mess of players move to that army cuz of the blackreach box. in my opinion orks are a power army in 40k now. very forgiving and as for tatics very straight forward. the only draw back to that is you tend to find that every ork player takes pretty much the same list and thats only because its works very well. also the ork codex just got redone so there is no waiting for a new dex, wysiwyg for quite awhile as far as dex and new rules go.

Play an army that no one else in your area plays. Failing that, an army that not many people play.

This here is a 500-point list of Orks. This is, however, still in the experimental stage and I have yet to try it. I think it would do good though.

Not trying to be biased here, but for a starting army with big numbers, Orks are probably your best bet. They are cheaper money-wise and are very easy to play. Orks are more forgiving than Imperial Guard when they make mistakes. On top of that, their walker-vehicles look cool!

That can only be a good thing. It might encourage Space Marine and Chaos Space Marine players to diversify their armies a bit, Khorne willing...

one thing you can do pryo is go to the local game store and buy a couple of blackreach boxes and see if anyone is willing to trade you orks for marines. more than likely there is someone wanting to make a marine army whose willing to trade. those deff koptas are worth their weight in gold.

it costs $50 in my game store. you get a warboss with power klaw, 5 nobz with sluggas and choppas, 20 slugga and choppa boyz (2 big shootas in there too), 3 deff koptas, new templates, measureing sticks, and my favorite condensed rule book. plus all the marine crap. lol
