Looks like an internal promotion following the letting go of his predecessor:

The Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Rountree as Chief Financial Officer of Games Workshop. Kevin, who has been with the Company for 10 years, assumes his new role and joins the Board of Games Workshop with immediate effect.

Rachel Tongue, who has been with the Company for 12 years, has been appointed Company Secretary of Games Workshop, also with immediate effect.

Yeah, holding your breathe would be an error in judgement.

They will never bring back bitz. They were losing money, or at the most, breaking even on the service. If they were in profit, the amount did not justify the amount of work to fill the orders and ship them out. Its my understanding that depsite the stoppage of bits, sales and profit did not go down.

The fact that they were losing money on something so many people spent a lot of money on is just bad management, not a bad concept. When they had bits, I was spending twice as much on bits as kits, now I only spend the same amount on kits. If I need bits I shop somewhere other than GW.

GW should bring back bits, but they should be pickier about which parts they sell, instead of offering every last little piece only offer the ones that they truly believe would be sold. Even the individual sprues should be easy enough for them. GW just doesn't know how to organize such a system; proof to that is the fact that individual stores have started breaking down their kits and successfully make money off bits. If those companies can make a profit buying those kits at wholesale and doing what they do, GW should be able to accomplish the same with a greater profit since they get their kits at the manufacturing cost.

I am not saying GW should sell bits in the broken down sprue sort of way, but that if a more involved and complicated approach such as that can be profitable for someone, the less involved approach I would expect of GW should be.

Evidently someone is making money off of bitz, otherwise we wouldn't have had all of these bitz services pop up....

Well, there's not much to talk about on topic. One suit that nobody knows anything about has been replaced by another suit that nobody knows anything about.

the CFO really doesn't have as big an impact on the production, design, pricing, or day-to-day functions as the author of the thread is suggesting.

The CFO would be in charge of the finanacial statements, obtaining finance, and overall financial health. He won't be changing production, pricing, sales, or any other major area of the company. He is the one in charge of reporting earnings to their shareholders.

well, speaking as thr FD of an organization myself, I would say the CFO is enormously influential in all aspects of the company. If the CFO speaks, he is listened to. He tends to only be outranked by the CEO. Of course he doesn't set policy in areas outside his responsibility, but if others' policies are harming the company financially, its his job to speak up!

depends on the size of the company. I would assume that since GW is a public multi-national company, they would have a production managers who would be in charge of reporting to a COO. The hierarchy usually goes CEO, COO, CEO, & CIO with CEO and CEO carrying the most weight as the CEO is supposed to be in charge of everything and the COO (or other appropriate title - for the person who is in charge of the primary aspect of the business - for GW it would be model/ paint production). The CFO

The CFO is responsible to do that but its not like he is the one holding the keys to the success of the company. The person in charge of production should have sales figures to know how much of what they need to produce. When costs go up, production should see if there are alternatives. The problem most people don't see is that you can drive costs of production down but if there is no demand then you have to account for storage costs and other holding costs. All of management is held accountable to speak up if they are harming the company. Most of the time, these problems don't shoot up over night and management should have identified it, adapted, and determined how to overcome. Most of the CFO's responsibilities are back end. He is not responsible for sales, developing efficiencies in productions, or producing any income streams. Thats why nobody likes the accounting department, and for that matter, us auditors. We're always seen as a necessary evil to obtain financing.

Speaking as an employee of a significant sized company where I am high up enough and educated enough to know what's happening, Osbad is totally right that the CFO is enormously influential. At the same time, the CFO doesn't necessarily know WTF is really going on at the coal face, and so enormous abuses, wastage and missed opportunities can happen which he never notices. The poo won't hit the fan as long as the company is making money.

CFO is an important job, but as this is an internal move I wouldn't expect massive changes. I'm sure he has a pet project or two, but nothing severe.

This is GOOD because it means he's likely not the guy who says "Hey, let's stop making these non-Space Marines as the ROI is poor."

This is BAD because he's also probably not the guy who says, "Let's try to up sales by re-using some of our older IP."

CFO. CEO. COO.

What I want to know, is who is GW's current COOCOOKAJOO, and of course, KAJAGOOGOO.
