Orks win the roll and go first, to choose the best quarter, and place two of the three objectives.
First turns, Orks advance, trading casualties with the guard at an even rate. Lootas, and the big mek are the ork firebase, while the tanks fire for the guard. Erik and Bob are not lucky with the blast scatter, and few shots land on target. Austin's ork bikes turbo boost toward the guardsmen, but stay a healthy didstance away, to avoid the torrent of small arms fire from the Infantry. Erik reacts to the bikes by killing one with the Chimera's Turret. Bob shells orks with the Basilisk, and pins down the burna boyz.
Mark is abvancing down on bob, being wary of the Hellhound's Inferno cannon, and drawing bob's focus away from the objectives. Austin charges in with the bikers, and all the guard infantry react to combat them. Being strength 3, Lasguns have a little trouble vs. the Toughness 5 bikers, and none fall from small arms. The guard tanks and plasma manage to kill off 2 more, dropping the squad to the nob and one biker. Erik then assaults with his command team, and drops the last 2 with a bunch of attacks, and the commissar.
The bikers drew all the Imperial fire save the basilisk for an entire turn, and the orks advanced even closer, taking the central building (with it's objective), and getting their tank bustas aimed at the chimera. Bob and Mark exchanged some casualties, as mark's burnas were taken down by the hellhound after destroying one of bob's infantry squads. Austin kept a squad held back in the rear, and the warboss and a squad in the building, to hold safe the objective.
Erik began to shift his focus towards the builidng, and put some light fire on the orks inside. Austin's tankbustas popped a rokkit into the chimera, and destroyed it. Due to their glory hogs rule, they had to advance and try to kill the closest tank- the Leman Russ. Erik engaged them withhis command team, and killed them, taking only light casualties.
Bob was under intense fire from the ork hoards, and was rapidly loosing men. His remaining fragments of units fell back with the hellhound, to avoid being assaulted and overrun.
As the last turn started, the orks held 2 objectives, and the Guard held only one. If the guard were to win. they needed to overrun the central building- a very tough task considering the warboss inside. The guard had about 25 men strong near the building, to charge in and fight 12 orks and a warboss. Bob had evened the odds out with a nice artillery hit that took out a number of orks the turn before. Erik and bob lined their troops up at the windows of the building, and one team of VERY brave Guardsmen charged through the doorway. From the fire support of the other squads, that squad of 10 only faced 2 orks and the warboss. All the guardsmen needed to do was destroy the Warboss, and the other orks would probably run. The ork Warboss struck first, and slew 3 men, and then the guardsmen struck back- killing the two orks but failing to wound the warboss. The guardsmen lost the close combat by one, and eneded up being overrun by the irrate Ork Warlord. Even though they didn't capture the objective, they managed to deny the Orks the ability to hold it themselves, and the game was a Tie, one objective to one.
Sorry the pictures ran out, as the battle picked up I was needed more and more to explain rules and such.
A fun game, and nothing too fancy on the board either, good for a group game.
