okay, another music post. I am looking for music to "set the mood" for games.
so, for SM, IG, SOB, we have classical/religious music (Bruckner's Te Deum, for exemple) or the soundtrack of "Chaos Gate" game.
But what about Eldar, or Tau.
Do you know music that would fit an eldar army going to war?

Hello from Scotland!
Heres a few suggestions Pallas - The Sentinel for (For Eldar)
Hawkwind albums like Doremi , warrior at the edge of time, Hall of the
Mountain grill tend fit a few armies. The track I think fits
Eldar Harlequins well is Brainstorm. Space is Deep and Down Through
the night are good for Eldar,as is Black Sabbath's Children of the Sea.

If you're looking to stick with the classical theme, or just wan't to hear some beautiful music, I'd suggest the following...
Gorecki's symphony #3 is a ery mournful piece which suits Eldar very well. In particular, the final segment of this work has a very defiant tone; it goes out on a bang which is what the Eldar are essentially all about.
Faure's ''Requiem'' has a very holy feel to it which I can imagine Marines being in touch with, being no strangers to death and honour.
For something more violent and schizophenic, particularly Chaos, I'd go with Stravinsky's ''Rite Of Spring''.
Alternatively, play Khorne Bezerkers and listen to ''Hammer Smashed Face'' by Cannibal Corpse. Or anything by Meshuggah should you play an armoured company/ any army with titans.
In all seriousness, the classical pieces are well worth checking out. I'm sure you can find them online, but classical music is usually very cheap anyway. You won't be dissapointed with the above.

Well I guess you would something pretty stirring. For a planetary landing you couldn't go far wrong with Holst's Mars The Bringer Of War, seen here in all its glory...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NeQ1h6lzLI
And with a full blown assault I'd go for a more contemporary feel, maybe Klaus Doldingers U96 (used in the excellent Das Boot)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPk96KwoPVY
Just some ideas to get the inspiration (and paints) flowing.
As an aside, Nile used the above Holst tune on their first album, re-naming it Rameses Bringer Of War. Although in this context it's probably more suited to the traitor legions, or maybe even Tomb Kings.

I recently made a sampler CD I could listen too while playing 40k. Unfortunatly, we're technically not allowed to play music in the gaming room because it would cost the owner too much money.
Anyway, the CD consists of several movie and game music which I think manage to capture the "feel" of a 40k game. It begins slow, with tracks from Incubation, Metal Gear Solid and Starcraft. Then some more action-oriented themes from Mass Effect and Lost Planet and in the end something bombastic like Starship Troopers (which always fits to a 40k game )and Transformers. And then of course, for the gothic mood, some chants from the Alone in the Dark soundtrack and Star Wars.
Also, the opening song from Full Throttle was imo always perfect for biker Orks.

personally, i think that just about any song on Amon Amarth's new album "Twilight of the Thunder God" fits either the marines, or CSM, or in some cases both.
i think that Tau should get a healthy dose of Heimataerde, or Moby, or Dunkelwerk.
SoB, should definitely get an 1812 overture, or Motzart's Requiem, or anything along those veins really.
for IG, or IN (specially if you play aeronautica) you should get some Iron Maiden.
pure Chaos, id say something like previously said, meshugah, or even Cradle of Filth, things like that.
Eldar, if they "need" music, should get something like Eluvietie (sp?)

Hahah, I'm only honestly good with Chaos music.
Death Guard - Anything by Necrophagist. Trust me. It fits perfectly. I'd probably go with "Seven" or "Only Ash Remains", but really, anything works here. Also, maybe some Akira Yamaoka for good measure (The guy who wrote the Silent Hill soundtrack).
Emperor's Children - Most any Industrial band would suit Slaanesh just fine, but I'm really partial to Colombine. and Psyclon Nine. Try "You Should Be Ashamed" by Colombine., or "Crwn Thy Frnicatr" by Psyclon Nine. Both songs suit them quite well. Believe me.
Thousand Sons - For the Thousand Sons, I would definetly have to go with Nile. I'd say "Unas Slayer of the Gods" if you want something epic. Maybe "Lashed to the Slave Stick" if you're looking for something short and sweet. Just a fair warning, if you haven't heard Nile before, they're extremely heavy. I mean, like, you have no idea. Grindcore at it's finest, with an egyptian flair. Don't say I didn't tell you so.
World Eaters - Hahah, any Khornate army is in need of some serious Swedish Viking Metal. Blargag was totally spot on recommending Amon Amarth (Too bad it was totally for the wrong armies), even if they are a little slow for Khorne. Might be a good starting point for someone who's not too partial to metal. I really like the song "For the Stabwounds in Our Backs", and you seriously can't go wrong with the song "Bloodshed", can you?
Word Bearers - Either Inferi or As Eden Burns are your best bet for The Word Bearers, as they both evoke images of war without being too, well...Swedish. I'd say either "Sentenced to Eternal Life", "Cursed Unholy" or "Cabal of Thieves" from Inferi, or "As Eden Burns" by...er....As Eden Burns?
Night Lords - Something about Night Lords just screams The Black Dahlia Murder. I'd say go for "Everything Went Black" or "Deathmask Divine". Maybe thrown in some As Blood Runs Black, as they both sound pretty similar to each other. "All My Fears Have Become Phobias" is a good song by them.
Alpha Legion - I don't know, Alpha Legion are probably in need of something quieter. Perhaps some more Industrial is called for. Voice of Vision is a nice fit, I'd say. Try "Lost Hour of Deception" or "In Dreams We Float".
Iron Warriors - Even if it does get seriously monotonous, and it's already been mentioned in this thread, Meshuggah would probably be my choice for Iron Warriors, as it suits them well. Really, anything off their new album, ObZen, works well, as it all eventually sounds the same anyway. That's Meshuggah for you. There's only so much Avant Garde Single-Chord Grinding that a man can take.
Okay, I basically just covered every single main Chaos army with a suitable band.
The Sisters of Battle and Grey Knights would probably work well with Gaza, as they both evoke imagery of the atrocities of a Holy War. Hooray for Christian Death Metal, the most oxymoronic genre of music ever!
Also, M_Stress, now to actually answer your questions...or one of them anyway. There is an Industrial band called The God Project that suits the Tau perfectly. Their singer is pretty terrible, honestly, but the music itself is amazingly suited to the Tau, in my opinion. You can check them out at http://www.myspace.com/thegodproject
As for getting their actual music to play at a wargaming session, I think it'd be somewhat difficult. You MIGHT be able to download it somewhere, but otherwise you'd have to pay for their C.D. at one of their concerts. Hah.
Now that I think of it, you can check out any of these bands I just mentioned on myspace, and most of the songs I mentioned. Just look them up. It's not too hard to do.
Again, as for getting copies of their actual music....that's usually a different story.

Heck yeah. This past summer this same type of thread surfaced, and that's the exact song I suggest for IG, as well. You can almost hear a Commisar muttering the words to some IG about to break and run...
"Back to the front!
You will do, what I say, when I say,
Back to the front!
You will die, when I say, you must die,
Back to the front!
You coward,
You servant,
You blind man."
Plus the speed/tempo of the song just kicks serious butt.
As for "Eldar" music... I guess it depends how you look at it. For me, I could easily envision the "Gladiator" soundtrack, especially the opening track, being suitable for Eldar. I'd also suggest bits and pieces of the LotR soundtracks for Eldar, as well. At least as an Eldar player myself, those sound good to me!
