What moron cast Tom Cruise as a German officer? Outside of Margaret Thatcher, he's like the person least able to play that part.
I just keep expecting to see him march up, say "are you with me" and start jumping around on a couch.

I predict Bomb of Rosie proportions.

It does seem an odd choice of both role and actor.

there's other nazi films I'd rather see

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

A German accent is fairly easy to fake (but can be a bit over the top). Tom Cruise doesn’t even try! It just makes it feel very wrong to me. He looks the part, but every line he speaks says, "HEY! I'M NOT GERMAN!!!!"

"Anything but a 1... ... dang."

IF you want to see a truly excellent film about the Nazi's, might I reccomend the frankly superb Downfall?

Absolutely stunning, though I must warn you it is heavy going, and subtitled, but 100 percent worth the perseverance!

When he's taken on decent roles Cruise has proven more than capable of turning in strong performances. Think of Magnolia or Collateral. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast is excellent; in the preview I spotted Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson and Terrence Stamp. It's also being directed by Bryan Singer, who made The Usual Suspects and the first two X-Men movies.

The film may still end up crappy, but it's way too early to dismiss it based on you disliking one actor.

There's a lengthy tradition of ignoring accents when making an English language movie. It's generally done to draw the characters closer to the audience - as long as they're speaking in strong accents it's easy to see them as those other people. Besides, it's hardly more realistic for Germans to talk to other Germans in accented English.

And I doubt it has anything to do with Cruise' ability to fake an accent. The rest of the cast is very gifted, and they're not doing it either.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

I am personally not going to see it because it is an overblown movie based on one of many failed attempts to assassinate Hitler!

Dammit Red, you beat me to it! Well, it's got it's own thread now anyway

As to Valk, I was kinda amazed to see it pop up, so soon, and with Cruise in it. Huh.

Deciding a film will be terrible just from the trailer seems a but harsh. Regardless of what one thinks of Cruise (and personally I don’t think he's a bad actor at all, check out collateral if you don’t agree) the director is excellent and the supporting cast is top notch.

I for one am glad that the actors are not putting on bad German accents, its off putting and I would rather the cast acted in their native voices. I saw the trailer at the weekend and think it looks great. I however am prepared to see it before I give my final judgement.

The wife and I want to watch it.

The trailer looked fine to me.

Tom Cruise is completely nuts but he has a hot wife and does pull out the occasional great performance on screen.

Finally, the proof of the connection between scientology and Nazism!

I kid, I kid, but seriously, I wouldn't see this POS on a bet.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

Johnny Dakka Dakka = correct. Deeppockets cultism at it's finest.

HOWEVER, I must say that, while I have never seen a trailer for Valkyrie, and have no idea as to how he did, this is mot certainly NOT the first time I have ever heard people call Tom a miscast for a role. Interview creeps to mind. My dad told me about Interview before I'd ever heard of it from another source. Said he htought Tom was a huge miscast, since his character was a tall, thin, pale Euro. Tom is none of these. I think he did a great job with the part.

However, I think that he's a little wrong for this part, and I am not sure that he will be able to pull it off.

I will refuse to go see it since I think cults are for cultists. If I have offended anyone by calling Scientology a cult instead of a religion, good. Talk to a mod, get me banned. Go ahead.

I have a one-year old son and a three-year old daughter. I think that I've been to two movies in the past year. I don't plan to go see Valkyrie on that basis. I don't like the casting of Cruise, but he can rise up to a part and do an excellent job in a film. Just don't listen to any promos he does for the film and you'll enjoy it more.
