So, I sold my house... tonight is trash night, so I'm over there emptying out my garage and throwing stuff away. I find a box at the bottom of a big stack of junk boxes and when I get to it I see it's filled to the top with really old (1994-96) CCG starters and booster packs from my old mail order biz and a lot of old RPG books from the same time and best of all, ALL of my old missing 2nd edition 40k books!

Here's all the GW stuff I found

2nd edition rulebook, wargear and codex imperialis
2nd edition Codex Chaos (144 pages!)
2nd edition Codex Ultramarines
1996 Epic citadel minis catalog (cool old pics)
Necromunda rulebook & Outlanders rulebook
White dwarf issues 192, 195, 196, 198 and 203
Warhammer fantasy roleplay book Shadows over bogenhafen, dunno where that came from... prolly gonna ebay it

I also found a box of real old citadel color metalic paints the real old original flip tops before the kind with the hex shaped bottles.. you could see all the metal settled on the bottom

I'm keeping the GW stuff, the rest will end up on ebay I guess...

Yeah, those lasted for ages. And a little water reinvigorated them pretty nicely if they were thick.

I'll go through the CCGs and organize it all and post here before I ebay it all

no magic but there there was stuff like doom trooper, vampire, rage, star wars, star trek, wyvern, illuminati, something from marvel comics.. and a few others.

for the RPG books I have there's,,,

Rune Quest (I think, there's RQ in the top corner) Into the Troll Realms and The Haunted Ruins
Mutant chronicles RPG Imperial sourcebook.
1st edition Warzone rulebook (from Heartbreaker)
Cyberpunk 2020 rulebook, v2.01
Shadowrun Cybertechnology
Assamite & Malkavian clanbook from Vampire the masquerade

And I think that's it...

Those colored metallic paints are rare, that's for sure. And those hex-shaped pots were golden - I still have the original starter paint set paints like Blood Red and Chaos Black and Goblin Green that are still as good as when they were first on the shelf.

I still use a pot of Shining Gold. I'll be upset when I finally run out. I use it everytime that I paint something a "brassy" color.

...I'm not sure if the exact same shade/color is sold in Vallejo. Citadel doesnt have it.

Yup. Those old pots were outstanding. I still have some good ones too.

You can also drop a small piece of metal from a sprue into the paint, and use it as an agitator for when you shake the pot.

If those paints can be salvaged, then good - because half of my paints are the old old old style paints, mostly from the ancient Ork & Eldar paint set.

Yep, a slotta tab broken in half can mix you up a pot of paint right quick.

And remember folks, Coat 'd Arms still produces all of the old and OOP Citadel paints. They used to be the maker back in the "good old days when paints were, well, good" They also make the inks that GW has discontinued.

Heh - I'll pass, as you may do better on eBay than I'm willing to pay. (I picked up the "One with Everything" box set back in the late 90's, and one of every card makes for enough of an interesting collection.)

I've got a pot each of the old metallic Blue, Green and Purple.

Lovely colours, quality paints, but useless for painting models. Might use them to paint me nails instead.

I still use a half dozen bottles of Citadel paint of the white-lidded Coat d'Arms shaped bottles. I've had them for over 20 years and they're still good. Beat the snot out of those crappy screw top bottles they had a while back and even the new black fliptops.

It was the fact that most of my paints were salvageable back in 2001 that got me back into the hobby. Had I not stumbled across them in the loft, flipped the lid on one back then (2001) and seen they were still viable from c.15 years earlier, and then popped out and painted up an old Orc on a whim, I likely never would have got back into gaming, as the "hump" of buying a load of new paints would have been enough to put me off the prospect.

Cheers

Technically it was HMG Paints that manufactured them. Coat d'arms is just a brand name. And yes, they're still available in both the United Kingdom and the United States.
