Hello, I hope this is the right place for this.

I do 40k, I do it because I enjoy building and painting. I have no problem splashing cash on models some people wouldn't have because I spend ages on them, even if my results aren't very good. At the same time I'd like an army I can use to game with should the occasion arise.

I currently have 3 valkyries from FW, 1 built and based and 2 in the post. I like the idea of elite troopers dropping onto objectives but prefer playing humans to marines for example.

Im looking for advice from people who play more wether i'd be better basically building a drop troop IG Army or having a daemon hunters army with 6 squads of storm troopers in valks then FA GK Squads.

I'm not bothered about winning, Fun is the key. Also they will be apoc games.

Well Guard are getting a new Codex in May, so whatever you do with them now will be essentially overridden in a few months time.

Daemonhunters are far far off in the release schedual, so their Codex is stable for at least another 2-4 years I'd say.

Make the Airborne Inquisitorial Storm Trooper army. It's exactly what I've had planned for my Inquisitorial Storm Trooper army for some time, and when GW releases the plastic Valkyrie in May, it becomes even cheaper (and you won't have to deal with FW's crappy miscasts and complete lack of quality control).

Anyway, do IG with DH allies. Do a guard army using the grenadiers doctrine. Then you can take 3 stormtroopers squads for troops, 3 for elites, two which are DH allies, and two which are WH allies. That's ten stormtrooper squads. Now you just need some Heavy Bolters...

It's also obsolete in 5 months.

DON'T start an IG army based around any of the current doctrines. Painting guardsmen is fine; they aren't going anywhere.

First, it is awesome that you have Valks, but be aware Valks don't yet have official rules for standard 40k play, and that plastic Valks are coming next year with the new IG Codex.

If you prefer humans, then you should get some Stormtroopers, who can be fielded in an Inquisitonal army or a Guard Army. You can also take Guard Platoons in both forces, so that is also helpful.

But really, your best bet is to wait for the new Codex before any serious outlay - you may see something new / interesting that catches your eye...
