Ok,given Follywoods love of taking classic (or not so classic) films and "redoing" them, which films,in your opinion, should simply be"HANDS OFF!!"
I'll start the ball rolling with Two films that I pray Hollywood never decides to Re-make.
1. Blade Runner (I'd go on a fething rampage)
2. A Clockwork Orange

Every movie could always use a remaking. Movies go through movements like "more explosions" or "grittier feel" and it's always fun to see what happens. LOTR sucks. It made for an....eh, OK book...but it was like watching a documentary. I also enjoy the Star Wars movies and am a big fan, but it would be awesome to see redesigned armor for everyone and a deeper love interest story between Luke and Leia before the big reveal.

I don't know. Seeing how crappy the remakes are lets us know just how far we've slid culturally.
But, all stories are just retellings of another prior story. Heck, A lot of the reality shows are just the Tempest rehashed.
Having said that there are 2 movies that I think should pretty much be untouchable and they are:
The Quiet Man-with John Wayne and Maureen O'hara
and
Casablanca- with Bogey
I can think of a very short list of actors that could pull these rolls off but could never see Hollywood doing them without giving them the "TREATMENT".

I personaly like the directors cut better, although any version of the film is great IMO,I see it as one of the most beutifuly crafted sci-fi films ever, which is why it (along with A Clockwork Orange) are my choices for " NO REMAKE"

I'm in favour of remaking a film if the original was crap, but why remake a film which was great? Has it stopped being great because someone invented stereo sound?
Loads of remakes of great originals have been terrible.
I also acknowledge the idea that there are only 12 basic plots and all stories are reworkings of those plot ideas. Fair enough. Stories can be re-imagined in order to address the concerns and needs of a changing world.

Explosions sound and feel better with a 5.1/7.1 system. Also symphonies and club/dance scenes but those are less important.
I agree with the last part but nowadays you have people casually dismissing that with an insulting, "Pshaw, too much environmentalism and blah-blah in [Wall-E/etc.]" so I don't know if it's even worth it.

Recent/relatively recent films I don't want to see remade. They all exist on the extremes of like/dislike.
Let the Right One In
Ip Man
Assembly
Black Sheep
Children of Men
City of Violence
D-War aka Dragon Wars
anything by Johnnie To (Election and Election 2, Exiled, Triangle, Breaking News (already being remade by Russians), Mad Detective, Swallow)
Flashpoint
The Host
In the Name of the King
Kiltro
Mutant Chronicles
No Country for Old Men
No Mercy for the Rude
Oldboy (I think this is being remade by Will Smith)
Pan's Labyrinth
Older films I hope don't get remade
Apocalypse Now
The Best Years of Our Lives
The Big Lebowski
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Bullet in the Head
City of God
The Deer Hunter
Godfather, Godfather 2
M
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Paths of Glory
The Princess Bride
Silence of the Lambs
Spartacus
Stalag 17
The Sting (was this remade for TV?)
Taxi Driver
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
The Wild Bunch
I'll stop before I pick more.

One thing I would say, is that I really quite enjoy the current string of 'reimaginings'.
For instance, Rob Zombie's take on Halloween was very well done, and genuinely quite scary.
It may not be a film per se, but Battlestar Galactica is also up there in terms of being worth while.
Any film or TV Series should only be remade if there is genuinely room for improvement, be it from modern effects, a more suitable budget, or even a greater audience tolerance for violence and that. But just don't remake it because it made money first time around!

I don't think that 5.1 or 7.1 sound can save Matrix 2 or Matrix 3. The "rave" dance scene is when the series jumped the shark.

I would include Apocalypse Now, simply because of the setting, and they way it was applied to the Vietnam War.
Now, Heart of Darkness could be feasibly reinterpreted in more modern, historical or futuristic ways, but not Apocalypse Now!
