Here's the miniature in question:

I'd really, really like to use this helmet on a different miniature.

Then, if successfully removed with a minimum of damage, I'd be able to use the headless miniature with, well, a different head.

Has anyone attempted this yet?

How easy (or difficult) would this operation be?

And what would be the best tool for the job?

Thanks!

to ensure the head comes off cleanly without any details missing part of the chest eagle would be damaged, part of the left shoulder would be damaged, i cant see the back but definately back of his neckwould be damaged too.

but luckily such helm is extremely easy to make ( easier then removing it atleast )

get a normal skull, gs the plate you see on it , roll 2 thin GS rope and carve in the lines

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Best tool? Dremel. Can't imagine how else to do it without damage.

Oh, wait, you want the HEAD.

... I'll think about it.

Hmmm... I'd be razor sawing at neck level, and then repairing what's left with plastic bits and bobs like shoulder pads and stuff.

A jewelers saw is the only thing that will do that nice of a job.

Green Stuff, nothings getting them two pieces apart cleanly. Id cut bellow the neck like Nuclear Mekanik suggests as the body will be easier to repair than the head.

Yes, it looks like the neck is going to have to take the hit, absorbing the most damage...

Still, as you say, that will be easier to fix, later on!

People have already mentioned a jewelers saw. Xacto makes some decent ones at an affordable price.

The next tool I would recommend is a table vice so you can hold your mini down on a sturdy surface while you make your precise cutting.

The bike mounted chaplain comes with a bit that goes on the back of his bike. It is a book, bedroll and that helme. I clipped the helmet off and GSed it onto some model ages ago. I seem to remember it being a tad bit small though. I would recommend bits orderring it from someone because it will be cheaper that destroying your chaplain. I think the reason foot the helmet on the bike being small was because all the biker models are to a 28mm scale anfld the regular marines are to a 30mm scale or heroic scale, even though citadel says their models are 28mm.
