This is the set up phase. The Red range sticks are used to measure out the center of no mans land.
Marines are played by Rich "Warborn" Romo, Mike "Derry" Derry is playing the Orks
Orks picked Flank Attack while the Marines picked Legion Relic
Orks Bid 10 minute set up while the Marines picked 15, meaning the Orks got first turn.

Set Up: This was a Standard Apoc game, the first one I've played or Ref'ed (as I Ref'ed this game). 5th Ed makes holding those objectives tougher as only Troops count for scoring, but we also played that any unit counted for contesting an Objective.

45
A squad of Nobs with Twin linked shooters can throw out potent firepower. This Squad held the Chapel for several Rounds.
46

47
The Shooting Begins, dropping the 20 orks to 15. At the time a great debate opened up about if shooting was a good idea, as Mike could pull causality to denie the marines the needed charge into close combat. However those extra 5 dead orks turned out to be very important, as the Shoota boyz ended the combat at 7 orks, meaning it was no longer fearless and would break when if morale tested with a -7 penalty.
48

49

50
Command Squad on bikes escorting Commander Bikesalot armed with Legion Relic.
51

52
The Biker Command Squad Charges in causing 8 wounds to 1, allowing they to overrun the orks, killing them all. This denied the Orks the Objective in the dark blue Mechanicius building
53

The Game Ended with the Marines controlling 2 Objectives to the Orks 1 (They Won the Ork Chapel, but didn't have the Troops close enough to hold it).

The Game lasted almost 6 hours and 4 complete turns where played.

The pics tell a pretty good story, but a little commentary would have helped in the report. Still, looks like it was a good game.

To paraphrase Shrike in the other post, how did the redeemer do ? It seems from the pics that the player was holding it back a bit.

The Redeemer got pulled away from the front to take care of flank Matching Ork Warbikers. I was kinda an Eye opener about how hard it was to get the Redeemer's flamers into play, I think one fired once, the rest of the time the Redeemer was moving and firing the Assault cannon and Multi Melta (go Machine spirit).

I have more commintary, it's just a pain to attach to each picture, because I can't tell what picture is witch when I'm editting them, I have to count the number of pictures down, for each piece of commentary.

I love battlereports with many pictures, I can easily see the flow of battle without spending too much time.

I wonder what Vulkan and the other characters did and why the ork player held back too.

Some thoughts about the Game.

AV14 transports are really good. Of the 5 Battle wagons, 1 was destroyed (in Hand to Hand combat, not shooting). AV14 with Cover is a very hard nut to crack.

20 Orks firing shootas from Battle Wags sounds like a good idea, but eats up a lot of time for very little effect against marines.

I wish GW would just say Zzap guns need a to hit roll now, instead of not saying anything. Also I want to know for sure that deathrollas can't hurt vehicles anymore (cept walkers)

@Zaephyr: Both Players where new to Apoc, so they might have been too cautious with holding back reserves.

A little advance planning on paper might help. Something along the lines of :

Turn 1, side A : ( commentary ) Pic= ( filename )
Turn 1, Side B : (commentary) Pic= (filename ).

Again, tabbed browsers come in useful. (look at notes, type into post. Look at note for filename, paste from tab A to post, and so on )
You get the idea, I'm sure. I know it's a pain, but the result will make for good reading to go with the great pictures you took.

I agree the report could gave used more commentary, but I liked it overall. The pictures were a little blurry, but tat can't really be helped.
Cool terrain, by the way.

I'll try and take better notes next time. I was also thinking of getting a small dry erase board to make notes on, then take pictures with the white board showing in the photo, kinda like how I made the quick note about the landspeeder taking 88 shots.

So Besides commintary, should I take/use less or more pictures? Should I try for more up close "Action" style shots or larger panoramic shots. Any advice is welcome.

It's a Big game alright, but my normal games of Apoc have 3 players per side and each player has 3000 points, so this one is a moderate sized apoc game

I agree with the pic uploading problem - presumably all your pic filenames are numbered when you take them from your camera, so you know what order they go when you make the report.

The problem is, the Gallery system deletes all the filenames, and processes them in a random order, so you end up with a load of images in no order whatsoever and you spend ages sorting through them, trying to figure out what happened when! This is particularly hard when you have seven very similar 'map' photos!!

yeah,
I loved your report and I think your Photos really help the Bat Rep...
I've done 15 batreps on here, and I'm a fan of Photo BatReps. so I'm not a pro yet but I think, A good mix of close up action photos and wider angle photos help the flow of the battle while showing the cool bits.

Adding Lots of photos to Dakka Forum is a Pain
The random photo order that happens in the gallery is a bit strange.

>Ok What follows is all O/T , It's my method of coping photos across from the gallery. I think you could find it usefull for your next BatRep.

----

All your images are in a gallery mixed up. you need to make a ordered list of the dakka image numbers.
it looks like this:
http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/1/17/16181_tb-30.JPG
you only need the red numbers for each image.
you can get each one quickly by hovering the mouse pointer over the images and looking at the status bar at the bottom of your browser... write them down on paper in actual order not dakka order!

ok next copy the forum img link for your gallery from one of the images in the gallery: you need this bit... (you can delete the URL bits if you want...)
{img}http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/1/17/16181_sm-Battlereport%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Crimson%20Fists%2C%20Plague%20Marines%2C%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Warhammer%2040%2C000.JPG{/img}
and paste it 20+ times into the Bat Rep and replace the dakka image code in each img link to the ones on your paper List...
this takes ten minute but makes adding the photos to the BatRep really easy.

you should now have all your images inside the BatRep in order and you just need to copy your text/story/game in from you notes...

It's worth noting if you change the name of your galleries, you'll break the img links in your BatReps!
Oh and use preview and or submit alot, because if you click away from the page before you preview/submit you'll lose the work you've done so far...

did any of that make any sense... or did I just babble on for bit just then???
PM me if you want help doing this.

Panic...

This all sounds like what I've learned, except for writing down the dakka image code ahead of time. Thanks for the idea, I'll probably end up using it.
