Ahoy fellow Dakka-ites, I am here to seek your opinion. I recently decided to order a titan, and while I was orignally going to go with a Reaver, I decided to do a Warhound first to get my titan-feet wet, so to speak.

Now I need some opinons.

-Lucius Pattern-

-or-

-Mars Pattern-

Many thanks in advance Dakka-ites!!

Definitely the mars pattern. The wolf is to mundane.
The armor on the mars is way beastlier than the wolf as well

I would give you a high five but my power fist is stuck in the on position.

I prefer the Lucius Pattern. Even imperial aircraft are big, chunkcy and without rounded shapes, the mars pattern is just a rem(a)inder of old epic stuff... If it's imperial, it has corners .

The mars pattern looks like a turtle with the armour on its back.

The Lucius looks a lot more like a scout as well

This. Aside from the silly predator turrets of yesteryear, the Imperium of Man has declared rounded shapes heretical. (All space marines are to report to the nearest forge world for refit with angular armor.)

It's all about the Mars. It looks deadly AND wonderfully ornate, just as you'd expect from such a prized engine.

Though as you're set to order, I don't know why I'm saying this. >_<

Lucius.

A Man's Titan, if I ever saw one, and like has been said: it looks Imperial. Mars looks Chaotic, and, like CK said, not many Loyalist constructions (Perhaps Vostroyans aside?) look like that. It's a throwback to Epic design.

He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

I like the Lucius a bit more.
It's leaner, and I think it captures the "scout titan" feel better.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Everyone has lucius class. I mean, why buy FW when you could just build a lucius.

Mars is way more unique. Thats why it wins.

Though I am partial to the Mars, it does seem more space marine oriented....

Only because Mars is so much more grim/dark.

Do you still intend to get a reaver in the future? If so, mars pattern all the way. That way your titans are more stylistically similar, rotten heretics can observe the nuances of martian construction just before you annihilate them.

Thank you Dakka, for your input, while I was almost swayed by arguments for a Lucius, I stuck with my gut (and consensus here) and went with a Mars.

Also in part to what 0079 said. I do plan on buying a Reaver at Games Day Canada in May/June so this one will fit in more stylistically with the Mars Reaver.

I also own an Armorcast Reaver and the Mars seems to fit in with it better to.

I know I will miss having the 2 Twin Turbolaser in apoc games, but a Plasma Blast gun and Mega Bolter is nothing to sneeze at either.

And finally because I let others piggy back on my FW order and they ordered Pre-released models, I won't get this guy until the week of/after January 26th.

As of then, I will start a P/M Blog to detail my trials and tribulations with the kit.

Thanks again Dakka!

Speaking as the proud owner of a Mars pattern Warhound this is sound advice & I strongly concur. Assembled the warhound is bulky, heavy & too awkward to paint. If you build it before you paint you're unlikely to get smooth brush strokes as much of the model will get in the way & any dry brushing will be a pain.

Painting it unassembled will allow you to cover all the bits that are barely visible, such as under the carapace, behind the shin armour or the amusingly titled cod piece armour.

My own approach was to treat the carapace armour as a separate painting project, then the leg armour, then the head, the cockpit interior & so forth. Lots of going back & forth until I was ready to assmble the beastie, taking care not to paint over anywhere you will need to glue. And you WILL need to glue (and pin f you like).

There's lots of advice from other Warhound builders & painters on te Dakka forums so have a good trawl & show us lots of piccies as you do it & once completed.

Last tip - the hoses / umbilicals that go from the back of the weapon mounts into the shoulders of the Warhound will need to be steeped repeatedly in very hot, almost boiling water so you can GENTLY curve & twist them into shape. Be very carefull as they could snap very easily. Then once they are glued / pinned in place paint them.

If it's stupid & it works, it's not stupid.
