My Army minus 3 Warbuggies with Rockets. I'll post a more detailed list later.

This is the 4th battle of a Campaign I'm Playing with Warborn (Rich Romo). We have been playing the Campaign from the back of the Hardcover Rule book, but to make things interesting, we keep escalating the points for each battle. Our First battle was 500 points, then we played a 750, 1250 and today an 1750 point battle.
The Mission was Capture and Control (the 2 objective take and hold). Because of Warborn's Previous Victory (He won all three of the previous battles) he was able to pick the deployment type, but the campaign dictated that the Table should be set up with the defending player (me) in dense terrain and the attacker (Warborn)in the open. So once terrain was set up, Warborn picked the Spearhead formation, then I placed Mine fields deep into both forests in the quarter adjacent to his short table edge.

Minefield markers makes these forested hills quite scary, as neither player goes anywhere near them all game. FYI, We didn't have any forest area terrain, we counted each tree as a separate piece of cover. The Trees are from a Heroscape Terrain pack.

While it seemed like the Marines (as they are the Attacker) should go first, we rolled for it and Warborn won the Dice roll and choose to go first.
Marines Get First Turn

Marine Set up

Ork Setup

Mega Armored Nobs are in the Trukk

The Battle Wagon started the Game Empty

Warborn placed his scouts in behind some rubble in the quadrant adjacent to the his long table edge.

One Quick Dice roll to see if the Orks Seized the initiative.

And my defensive plan was turned on it's head. I had prepared for going second, with all off my hard hitting units set up as far away and as hidden as possible, but most of his army was in the open, so I chose to go first. I figured the chance of destroying some of this transports in his deployment zone was too good to pass up.

Ork First Turn

And my Killa Kans managed to destroy his Heavy Bolter Razor back, letting his Melta gun combat squad deep in his enemy lines. I maneuvered my forces up. I also shook his venerable Dreadnought, Agmabob the Burninator.

Marines First Turn

Marines move out

Multi Melta and Heavy Flamer armed Land Speeders move into possition to burniate my troops next turn. You can also see where the Scouts inflitrated to here., in the upper left hand side, to the left of the Assault Cannon Razorback. Vulkan Makes Those Speeders and all the armies melta and flamers count as Twin linked, so they are very bad news.

The Marines Start Shooting

Sad day for the Grot squad 7 died in the Vindicator blast's Deviation.

Las-Cannon lining up a shot on the Kans. Freem! A Hit and Kill!

You Think the Grots are having a bad day, just you wait and see. The last grot in this unit get's killed by the Mega Grot(my runtherd stand in) to reroll a failed morale test. The Test is passed and now begins the story of the "Mega Grot, Greatest of all Grotz".

Orks Turn Two

Orks Move up
The Mega Mobs in da Trukk are Cunnin' and hang back looking of Dat Vulkin Guy, he needs a poundin'.

Both Land speeders are destroyed by Loota fire and lucky rocket fire from the buggies and kanz.

Marine Turn two
Kanz take a beating

Vinicated!!

The Kanz are getting knocked over and da 'Ard Boyz are being riddled with fire. One of the Buggies Explodes too.

Sneaky Battle Wagon!

Ork Turn Three
The Last Kan Charges the Vidicator and The Mega Nob in the Trukk zoom up into the middle of the fighting.

Evil Sunz Slugga Buyz make it to the Scouts, thanks to a WAAAGH from the Wierdboy. I the Pic here you see them after they had consolidated, having killed the scouts to the man. Notice how they stay away form from Agmabob.

'Ard Boyz make it to the fight, kills three marines, and chase of the other two.

They Consolidate behind cover

Marine Turn Three
The Predator Destructor Shoots the Trukk out from under the Nobs, but I totally forgot to roll on the Kreen! Table, so they just dismounted in the middle of a Gun line, luckily the Vincator had already fired.

Marines Shooting Breaks the Ard Boyz Morale and they run off the with Weird Boy.

Agmabob shot and stunned the Battle Wagon then Charged it, destroying the Killkannon.

Vulkan and his Combat squad escort take care of an Evil Sunz infestation with out getting around to rolling his bolter shots.

Ork Turn Four
I need to finish paint these Lootaz they have been a Terror all game.

The super ork Team up happens, Mega Grot and the Battle Wagon. With the lonely runtherd in the Vehicle, it now counts as Scoring. Sweet.

Shoot Boyz Surge forward to take Pot shots at Vulkin's Escort, behind the Razor back. The Nobs prepare to assault the Razorback and Vindcator in front of them (They Kill the Vindicator and destroy all the weapons and immobilised the razorback, but don't cause the unit inside to dismount) The Kan charges the combat squad near the low stone wall out on the road.

The Last Kan wrecks bloody havoc, after finishing of it's first tactical squad, it looks for a second and Finds one! Woot!

Marine Turn Four
The Nobs are left using the vehicles they just mauled as cover from most of the marines heavy weapons, but can't hide from the Near by Tactical Marines, how use Blessed Fire and Bolters to kill 3 Nobs and wound the Warboss once.

After Dispatching the Warboss and this Mega Nobs, Vulkin and crew set there sites on my home base objective and the Shoota boyz.

Ork Turn Five and six (picture got a like mixed up).
Not a Lot of Shooting in Turn 5 and 6

This melee is not turning out well for the Orks

Mega Grot orders the Battle Wagon to support the Shoota boyz holding the Objective

Knowing that Mega Grot had there Back, the Shootaz break cover to gun down Vulkin and most his squad, killing a marine, then charging them, killing the Vulkin and all the squad except the flamer how rana way and rallied.

Marine Turn Five and Six

Clearly it's the bottom of turn 6 here (thanks big red dice!) and the Flamer templates come out once more. The shoot squad is roasted and blast to the man, leaving Agmabob nothing to charge. Oh well. I think it was the damage Predator destructor that did the last 4 wounds to this squad.

The Game ended at the end of Turn 6.

So a quick review of Objectives
The Marine Objective was being contested by my last Kan

And the Ork Objective was held by Mega Grot in the Battle Wagon! The only thing near either objective was a Grot!

Victory for Mega Grot!!

Great read and pics. I love the old skool Epic model as the Mega Grot. Cool to see a painted Battlewagon. I'm behind as I haven't even bought it yet. Keep up the good reports.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

How does having a single troops model in a transport make it count as scoring? Vehicles can never capture objectives and neither can troops if they are below half strength, which Mega-Grot clearly was.

Nice report, anyway.

Units from troop slot always score if they are infantry and are not falling back. Battlewagon doesn't effect the grot's scoring in any way. The grot can simply be counted as being in the front or whatever is closest part of the vehicle to the objective.

I like these picture-filled reps! This time you had some helping text in it.

@Trevy the Great: In 5th ed, they removed the "under 50% can't score rule", so a lone unbroken infantry troops choice can still score, as Mega Grot clearly did. Being in a transport just protected Mega Grot.

@Zaephyr: I had help texting? I'm not sure I understand.

All Hail Mega Grot!
