Well, who did you think I was going to talk about?

Taken from TMP
Alan Perry of Perry Miniatures writes:

The next in line for our plastic range after the British Infantry is French Heavy Cavalry 1812-15. To be precise, Cuirassiers and Carabiniers. These will be available in one box, with heads for both types. These are still at their early stages, so you'll have to wait a while for them.

The British Napoleonic Infantry - which will be out next in plastic - are coming along nicely and are on schedule. Michael's started work on another plastic set, as well as something else entirely, which will explain why there aren't so many metals from Michael at the moment… more of that later. I've been making these cavalry, as well as metals for the forthcoming British/Hanoverian range, French Guard Grenadiers, Guard Foot artillery, more Choson Koreans (including artillery), and we've both been making more ACW.

The Old Guard Grenadiers and ACW codes will be out later this month.

More ACW sounds nice as well.

Those Perry boys are brilliant. I can't wait to get a hold of a couple boxes of these. looks like the confederate cavalry are 12 pounds for 12 figures. Even with international shipping, that's a damn sight better than GW. Only the time costs of converting up all those hunting lances and adding techy bitz will make them approximately as much of a hassle as regular roughriders.

I was going to do RRs with Pistolier bitz- now I know to wait. Thanks, Perrys!

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Although I don't play 28mm ACW I am tempted to get a couple of boxes just for the fun of building and painting them.

Damn, the Perrys have still got it, haven't they?

If I hadn't just painted up 35 Sash & Sabre figs as ACW period US Marines, I probably would have bought a box too! Still might (plus cav), but it'll have to wait until I'm done with the rest of 'em (Got another 10+ or so to do as "Iron Brigade" skirmishers, plus other sundries).

It's from the poem Ozymandias, where Ozymandias got his name.

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert, near them on the sand
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command,
Tell that the sculptor well those passions read;
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
>/Insert line which I forget<
And on the pedestal these words appear:
I am Ozymandias, king of kings. Look upon my works
Ye mighty, and despair. Nothing beside remains.
Round the decay of that collosal wreck,
Boundless and bare, the lone and level sands stretch far away.

I don't remember it perfectly. Good poem though.

The Perrys sculpted/have sculpted for GW for years(I think they still do work for them, not sure). They're some of the most well known/best sculptors GW have ever employed(an amazing feat for Michael ever since he lost much of his right arm when a Recreation Society cannon exploded). They did a lot of work for LotR and several other GW games. They were even given cameos with other GW employees working on LotR and are current sculpting WW1 models for Peter Jackson's private collection:

I have to say I do know of them, I just didn't know they produced militry history figures under the collective 'perrys.' I even know someone who went to the same sealed knot recreations where I believe Michael had the accident.

The Perrys have been around for decades.

They were part of the new wave of talent that got started in the late 70s to early 80s, supported by the D&D boom and Citadel Miniatures.

Hey, has anyone tried combining these Perry Plastics with GW models? I just went to their website and was looking through their ACW stuff and found that they have a pack of 36 heads with slouch hats and I'm wondering how those would look on a Cadian body. I could finally make my ANZAC 40K army!

Ah, hell, nevermind - for ~$9 + shipping, I'm getting 36 heads. Might as well give them a shot.

Could you post the link, I went to the site to find the slouch hats and my feeble searching skills could not find them.

Thanks

How do these models "size up" compared to GW models in terms of literal size......meaning what MM are these guys? can the easily be intergrated into a GW army by just swapping out various heads/bits?

You flatter me. But really, I'm just an ordinary guy. I put my pants on the same way anybody else does: I put a gun to the head of my manservant and bark Russian military commands at him until the poor blighter either figures it out or watches his brains exit his forehead.

Man, that cavalry is straight up slick!

Makes me want to play Napoleonics....

I really want to see that Napoleonic British Infantry too, it'd probably work well for the War of 1812, which it just so happens might be my next big historical project.

I purchased some of the Perry ACW plastic cavalry. The horses look great and scale well with GW horses. The riders are pretty small... more 25mm maybe. I sawed them in half, and was able to use the legs with IG torsos... with some canteens and such to hide the mismatch.....
